Chapter 8 – Hyun’s POV
He left just like that. Even his back view looked strangely unfamiliar to me. Is he still the Hyukjae that I once knew? Is he still the Hyukjae that I trusted my heart with that he will never ever do anything to break my heart? Is he…?
I feel hurt, pain, lost, abandoned… So much feelings and emotions hit on me all at once. It was so hard for me to take it. Tears unconsciously kept flowing down to my cheeks. My legs felt weak, everything seems to be spinning. And suddenly, the world just out on me.
‘Hyunnie! Hyun! Hyunnie, wake up!’ I heard someone shouted, it was so noisy but then suddenly I felt tired and then everything was shut down for a moment and I think I fell deep into slumber.
Beep… Beep… Beep… This sound is annoying… Someone shut the alarm clock down. I furrowed my eyebrows before slowly opening my eyes, adjusting it to the bright light that was hurting my eyes. ‘Roll down the curtain…’ I said softly, as I covered my eyes with my one of my hand. I looked at my surrounding and then to the clothes that I’m wearing. Am I… in the hospital?
People suddenly crowded around me. ‘She’s awake!’, ‘Call the doctor!’, ‘Are you alright?’ Several comments were made; making the room seemed chaotic now.
Before I could even answer, the doctor and nurses came in and checked on me. After assuring my family members and some other people that I’m fine, he went out before silence takes place. Suddenly, a warm hard held onto one side of my cheeks, ‘Dear, are you okay?’ Mom said, sniffing a little and looking at me sadly. I met her gaze and felt heartbroken because she looked so tired and I know it was all because of me.
I nodded without saying a word. Among everyone, this person that was sitting at one corner, glancing at me from time to time had all my attention. Why is he here? I thought to myself and then the flashback before I fainted flashed into my mind.
It was him who brought me to the hospital. He came back for me.
‘What have you all done to my daughter?! She hasn’t been eating well and isolating herself from every one of us! What did you all do?!’ My father shouted, pointing at Hyukjae and his parents accusingly. This was the first time I saw him getting mad at them. I frowned and said softly, ‘Appa, it’s not their fault…’ He looked at me frowning, ‘It isn’t their fault?! Then whose fault is this? Who made you become like this? You’ve become totally another person, you know Hyun? And it breaks our heart looking at the state you’re in right now.’ He said sadly then walked out of the room, seeming to want to control his emotions that were taking over him.
‘I’m so sorry… He didn’t mean it. He was just clouded by anger right now that’s why he’s saying such hurtful remarks. I hope you all don’t mind him…’ Mom said with a slight smile, assuring them that everything was fine. Throughout everything, I was just looking at Hyukjae and meeting his gaze on me. I could see that he felt guilty of how I’ve become but didn’t say a word.
‘We’re the ones who should be sorry and I hope Hyun will be fine soon. We’ll get going now then.’ His mom said while gesturing them to go.
Before Hyukjae leave, I quickly said, ‘Hyukjae oppa… take this.’ He stopped on his track while I reached out to my coat’s pocket and gave him the letter I wrote before I left home. He looked at the letter and asked, ‘What’s this?’
‘Just read it when you reach home…’
He nodded slightly before putting the letter into his pocket and left with his parents, making me look at his back leaving longingly, once again…
