The respected dancer

Can you keep a secret?

Growing up, dance was everything for Yixing. Every Friday after school his mum would take him to the hall where the lessons were held, go shopping whilst Yixing was occupied and come back by the end of the lesson.

What started off as something that kept Yixing occupied, and away from his parents to allow them to do stuff without worrying about him, soon turned into a passion. Whilst his parents thought he would soon become bored with it and move onto something new, Yixing became entranced with dancing. Whilst his dad had plans for him down a different route Yixing's goal was to become a top dancer. A dancer who was respected by everyone- including his parents.

Which is why he practiced. From coming home from school to his parents forcing him to go to bed, Yixing would stand in front of the mirror in his room and practice whatever he watched on the internet or from what he learnt in lessons earlier that day. Dancing had allowed him to become free. It allowed him to forget about all the other worries and issues that plagued his mind, he was somebody else when he danced and he never wanted to let go of it.

An injury to the leg stopped him from achieving his dreams. Unable to dance as much as he use to, Yixing was forced to give up on his dreams. By this point he was packing up and moving away- getting as far away from his parents as possible and found himself in Beijing, job already guaranteed and somewhere for him to stay until he picked himself up. It was time to start anew.

"Okay everybody that's it for today. Great job!"

Yixing could swear that the size of the class got bigger each week. Whilst it meant that more money came in, more competitions were won and Yixing got a little more money on top of his wages it also meant it was a lot harder to keep control of children of all sorts of ages and dancing abilities.

"Have you been overworking yourself again?" Qian, another instructer, asked when she saw Yixing rub his knee
"Some kid I was helping earlier accidentally kicked me earlier, it'll be fine by morning" Yixing replied.

Yixing came across the dance studio about two months after he had moved to Beijing. It was there he met Qian and two other instructers who were looking for someone else to come and take the youngest age group. Though the injury had set Yixing back on his original dream, it wouldn't hurt teaching some children a few steps or two and tire them out so they could sleep like logs upon returning to home. He's been there ever since.

"You've also got bags under your eyes... have you had trouble sleeping lately?" Qian asked
"Late nights, too late actually" Yixing replied as Qian rolled her eyes and Yixing managed to squeak out a laugh. No way was he going to tell her the truth! Scratch that, nobody he knew was ever going to find out about what was going on behind closed doors. He had that firmly planted in his mind on the drive back to him apartment the day Yifan forced him to hid him. He was not going to risk it!

~

Returning to the apartment Yixing was expecting the television to be on or have Yifan leave it on and be in the kitchen cooking up some sort of Cantonese contraption. To come home and find neither of the two in process actually surprised him. In fact, looking around the place, it looked as though nothing had been done around the place since Yixing left for work earlier in the day.

"Yifan?" he called out, looking through the place to see if Yifan was anywhere else.

"Yifan" and this time the door to the spare room opened and Yifan slowly walked out.

"Have you been in there all day?" Yixing asked
"Somebody came by earlier" Yifan said, walking past Yixing to check if the door was locked.

"You didn't answer did you?"
"No. I turned the television off and hid. They kept knocking and even looked inside but seeing that nobody was there they soon left" he replied, pulling back the netting on the windows slightly to look out before pulling the curtains.

"What's wrong? Why are you acting like this?" Yixing asked upon seeing how jumpy Yifan was
"It doesn't matter. Should we just get takeaway tonight? I'm not in the mood for cooking anything and it's getting pretty late anyway" he replied and turned his attention to the menu that was pinned to the fridge.

Looking at how he was acting, the behaviour was strange. It couldn't have been anyone Yixing knew who came to the door, they all knew he was working today and had dance lessons afterwards so he was pretty much booked up for the day. Maybe it was the police- perhaps they were knocking around to see if anyone had any information regarding Yifan and his escape. That could be a posibility.

But the way that Yifan was acting made the police posibility less likely. Yifan looked as though he could handle the police, after all, spending so long within a prison he was going to create some sort of resistance towards them.

So if it wasn't the police or anyone who Yixing knew... then who the hell could it have been? No, the real question should be who the hell was it who came here and was enough to make Yifan a nervous and worrying wreck?

Hmm... this chapter is shorter than what I originally imagined it to be...

Ah well. It still works and has revealed tiny pieces of details which will become more relevant as this progresses into future chapters. So I guess I should be happy with how turned out!

Until the next chapter!!
