Search history

Can you keep a secret?

Whenever Yixing was at work, Yifan was left by himself for the day to do whatever he please... well... besides going outside without Yixing in attendance that is.

Yixing often wondered what Yifan got up to when he wasn't home. Having recently discovered the password to the laptop, he spent most days on there. Yixing didn't mind, it kept Yifan occupied and away from the outdoors, reducing the risk of his cover being completely blown. So long as Yifan promised to not look up anything dirty, and if he did he had to delete his history straight away, he was free to do as he pleased.

Yifan was quite a mysterious man. All Yixing knew was that he had escaped from jail after being sentenced to life back in 2008. Apart from that, he didn't know anything else about the guy. It wasn't as though Yifan was going to tell him that easily anyway. The guy kept himself to himself.

Yixing was at first greatful; if Yifan didn't really tell him anything, then he couldn't get as further attached to the situation as he already was. But oh no, then Yifan had to go hiding himself whenever someone came around with a terrified expression on his face, Yixing just had to notice the scar on his shoulder, Yifan just had to act strangely instead of acting his own age!

And yet, whenever Yixing tried to ask about any of those subjects, he never got an answer!

The answers he was looking for were very difficult to actually get out of Yifan. The guy either avoided the subject, commented on something else or would smile sadly and then walk away and leave Yixing hanging like that.

And don't get Yixing started on the amount of times he's come home and seen Yifan shifting himself slightly on the sofa in the living room so Yixing wouldn't see what he was doing. Like, what the hell was the guy looking up anyway?

It was two evening's after the incident with the creepy guy in the cafe that Yixing returned to his home, and found the laptop on the sofa completely unattended.

Should he look?

Was he going to like what he found?

Was Yifan going to get angry if he walked in and saw?

"You hungry?" came Yifan's voice from the kitchen, reluctantly, turning Yixing's attention away from the laptop and towards the kitchen.

"Starving" he replied and walking into the scene of Yifan stood there, cooking, waiting for Yixing to return home... it was really, homey...

Yixing quickly wiped the thought out of his head and went to help prepare the meal to take his mind off of the matter. But he did know one thing for sure though; when Yifan went to bed tonight, that laptop was his.

~

"Do you think I can actually spend some time with my laptop now?" Yixing asked, tearing his eyes away from the television and towards Yifan, laptop placed on his lap like it had been the whole day.

"Well if you're going to cry about it" Yifan replied, handing it over before standing up, stretching his arms and retiring to his room for the night.

Yixing sat there waiting for a minute or two. He had to absolutely make sure that Yifan was not going to rejoin him anytime soon. When he was sure, a quick press of control+h and Yixing had brought up the entire search history for the day.

Why was he feeling so nervous?

It wasn't as if he was going to discover something mindblowing, or concerning. Right?

Looking through the search history; it had mostly been music videos from online websites, or Yifan watching continuous episodes of an old Cantonese drama. Yixing couldn't understand a word they were saying and quickly moved on to save himself from further confusion.

It wasn't until he got back to the earliest search inputs of the day did he finally hit a gold mine of results.

For about an hour or two Yifan had been searching up the prices of train tickets that would take him to Guangzhou. Using the same website, by the looks of things, he was looking up which tickets would be cheaper if he took a train from Beijing, or in a city closer to his hometown.

Then Yixing came across some news articles dating back to 2008. Some of them dating back to the day of the murder; a couple both believed to be in their late twenties/ early thirties brutally murdered after a night out at a work party. At the time of the murder, only one suspect had been arrested.

Then there was an article about the beginnings of the trial. An artists picture graced the front cover, depicting the scene of the court; a young Yifan sat there whilst being questions by the prosecution with the judge looking on.

Then there came an article dating to the day Yifan was sentenced. On the front cover there he was; scared, terrified. Reading the article, Yixing learned of how the family of those murdered cried and cheered, how Yifan's eyes widened and he froze in the spot as police moved in to handcuff him and drag him away. How as he was being dragged away he looked back for comfort from his mum, who instead was apologising and comforting the family of the victims.

He must have been so scared. Reading the article, Yixing was beginning to feel sorry for him.

There were a few more articles that chronicled the proceedings of the trial, but being from a Cantonese speaking region, Yixing couldn't understand what they were saying and moved onto one more article that Yifan had looked up.

This one Yixing could actually remember being on the news a lot; how in early 2010 there were huge prison fights in Beijing. Police had spent days trying to control the prisoners, stop them from fighting, but it got to much and people were beginning to get killed or dying from the injuries they sustained. At the end of the article, the journalist concluded their report by listing all of the inmates who had lost their lives in the fight;

Zhang Chaoxing

Jin Hulin

Huang Minzhe

Li Jiaheng

Song De-

"Wait" Yixing blurted out, quickly smacking his hand over his mouth and turning to the door of the spare bedroom, praying that he hadn't stirred Yifan and accidentally woke him up.

Turning back to the screen, Yixing read over the names of those dead and sure enough there was Li Jiaheng, clear as day

"Nice to meet you, Yixing's parents I'm guessing, I'm Li Jiaheng..."

The prison where these fights happened was exactly the same place Yifan had been sentenced to. The fights happened in 2010 and sure enough Yifan would have been there in his second year of his sentence.

Was Yifan involved in those fights?

Why the hell was he using the name of a dead man?

I laughed a lot when naming this chapter... I have such a dirty mind it's probably best that I shut up now...

And slowly, more information is being revealed as Yixing goes on a mission to find out what Yifan had been doing!

Things are slowly going to start to happen...

Until the next chapter!
