Bad parenting

Can you keep a secret?

At the first opportunity he got, Yixing cleared out of his parent's house and moved as far away as he possibly could. The only time he ever did return to his hometown was to visit his friends or surprise his grandparents with a visit or two, not once on those visits did he ever consider visiting his parents. It wasn't like he wanted to see them again anyway.

Yixing's parents were just as bad as each other. They had always put up a show in front of others to potray themselves as the loving and doting parents, if only they knew what they were like behind closed doors.

Growing up, Yixing was constantly subjected to a father who was strict, very strict for that matter, who always pushed Yixing to the limit and didn't care about anything other than his son studying until late and coming out within the top 5 in school exams. His mother was not as bad, but she did have her moments. Especially with that temper of hers.

Yixing didn't like being a Zhang; they weren't particularly lovely people. They consisted of two people who were extremely strict, pushed their son over the line, and would not accept their son for who he was or what his passions were. The only nice people he knew who were Zhang's were his parents, but he didn't want to burden them, so when the opportunity came he just had to get out of there. Once out he planned on never looking back!

With his parents at the door, all sorts of memories starting flooding his mind. The majority, scracth that all of them, being bad memories of his childhood and what they had done to him.

What the hell were they doing here?

Yixing was determined to find out...

"M-mum? Dad?"

"Oh stop it Yixing you know I can't stand it when you stutter like that" his mum said, her son gawking at her and her husband stood next to her. Is that all she could say at this moment in time? No explanation as to why they were there?

"W-what the hell are you two doing here?" Yixing asked gripping the door handle tightly
"Like I explained on the message I left on your answering machine; we're currently here in Beijing to attend a wedding and I wanted the three of us to get together" his mum replied.

"What made you think I wanted to see you?" came Yixing's next question
"That is no way to speak to your mother! Show some respect!" his dad said angrily and Yixing didn't really need him getting involved in this at present.

"Was I talking to you?" he asked
"Yixing!" and now his mum was getting riled up.

"No! I don't need you two scolding me for talking to you like this when you perfectly know why I'm treating you like this! If I didn't ring you back after you left the message then that meant I didn't want to see you. Do you really think that after everything that had happened you turning up on my doorstep was going to change everything?"

They both completely ignored the question. They didn't even show a hesitation to indicate that perhaps they were thinking about the answer. Instead they poked their noses right into Yixing's apartment and had the audacity to scrutinise what they could see so far!

"Why is there broken glass over there?" his mum asked. Oh great.

"And why is there blood on the floor? Did something happen?" now she was concerned
"There was a little accident earlier, can you just leave it be?" Yixing replied but he knew his parents well and if anything, they would prolong this for as long as it needed to be.

"Come to think of it, didn't we hear shouting just moments ago? Were you arguing with someone?" his dad asked making Yixing groan
"I said to just leave it be! It's none of your business anyway!" Yixing shouted back and didn't really care if the neighbours heard him or not.

"Zhang Yixing"

And his parents would now try to scold him again

Foot now bandaged up and bloodied tissues disposed of, Yifan was doing a very good of earwigging in on the conversation between Yixing and his parents. From what he had heard so far, Yixing really didn't like them! He wanted to be rid of them for all he mattered and yet when he tried to they would always come up with something new to outstay their welcome.

Remembering what the guy had told him previously, Yixing had an awkward relationship with his parents and it was only emphasised by what he could hear out in the hall. Yixing was just not putting up and effort full stop, yet his parents were trying but when their son did something or said something they reverted back to the other side of them; short tempered and moody people.

They were grilling Yixing! There was no way he was going to win this battle between him and his parents!

Surely Yifan could help in some way... but then again, Yixing had told him to stay in the bathroom and after the argument previously, was he really willing to blow his cover and go help the guy?

"I said to just leave it be! It's none of your business anyway!"

Now Yixing was beginning to sound deperate. Yifan thought that if this continued for any longer, the guy was going to break and his parents were going to win. What should Yifan do?

Opening the door slightly, he peeked out to see Yixing trying to block his parents from entering the place. If he was quiet, they wouldn't be able to see him until he was as close as possible. Then again, Yifan was a tall guy with blonde hair, if Yixing's parents didn't notice that then they had to be the most unobservent people on the planet!

"Yixing stop being so childsih! We are your parents and you shall give us respect!"

He had to do something... he just had to! Otherwise the thought would nagging his conscience and would be bugging him for ages. Stupid conscience.

Teetering between the two options, Yifan thought screw it, screw it all! It was his turn to be a good samaritan for once!

"What part of leave and leave me alone do you not understand?" Yixing asked glaring at his parents who were wearing expressions just as similar
"We are not leaving so easily Yixing! Get that into your head! We came here to sort things out and are not leaving until we have done so!" his mum near enough screeched as Yixing ran a hand through his hair.

"Well then you can sleep outside tonight, tomorrow, for a whole year if you have to! I'm not letting you in and I don't think we will ever sort things out" he replied
"But we ju-" his mum began but trailed off as she and her husband frowned. Sensing something wrong, Yixing turned around himself, eyes widening when he saw Yifan crouched on the floor picking up the broken vase pieces.

"Oh!" Yifan exclaimed, lifting his head to find three pair of eyes staring at him.

"Am I interrupting something?" he asked, standing up and walking over
"Yi-Yixing who is it?" his mum asked and Yixing wanted to shoot back that his mother shouldn't stutter because he hated it... but hr was too busy shooting daggers into Yifan.

What the hell was he doing?

"Nice to meet you, Yixing's parents I'm guessing, my name is Li Jiaheng and I'm-"
"He's my boyfriend" Yixing piped up, catching his parents off guard. Yeah, lets see how they handled this.

"Boyfriend?" his mum asked
"Yeah. Boyfriend" Yifan replied unsurely, turning to frown at Yixing who was too busy staring at his parents with a smirk on his face.

"Boyfriend?" his dad asked
"Yes dad a boyfriend. Remember when I was sixteen and came out as gay to you two? See being a homoual man means I date guys and... Jiaheng here happens to be my boyfriend" Yixing explained.

"H-how is this possible? We raised you correctly like a parent should" his dad muttered
"Correctly? You guys think you did a good job in raising me? Please! You guys were rubbish parents! You were strict, never cared about what I wanted and when I told you I was gay you refused to accept it! Even now!" Yixing replied.

"Stop talking to us like this! We are your parents! You make us out to be the bad guys but we had to be strict! We had everything planned out and you tried to ruin it with dancing. If it wasn't dancing you were running off up here to get away! You ruined us. We're ashamed to tell people you're our son because you betrayed us! I mean look at where you are now working in a bakery, with a boyfriend with awful hair and never ammounted to-"

"Excuse me" came Yifan's voice over Yixing's mum.

"Shut up! Don't talk about your sone like that" he began angrily, Yixing's mum staring at him shocked.

"So what if Yixing went against everything you had planned? Boo hoo get over it and build a bridge. He's done an excellent job up here by himself I mean, look where he is now; a lot happier away from you"

"If you cant accept your son, the way he is or what he does in life, then please leave".

"Y-you can't tell us to leave!" Yixing dad replied
"Watch me" Yifan replied and shut the door in their face.

"Li Jiaheng huh?"
"Boyfriend huh?"

In the silence that had ensued, the two had finally found something to laugh about.

"Sorry about the vase"
"Forget about it! It's ugly anyway. Sorry about calling you a child" Yixing replied, eyes glassing over with tears.

"Yixing it's oka-"
"They were always like that you know. Growing up and even now. You can finally see why we have such a complicated relationship; they know who is in the wrong and yet try to pin the blame on one person only" Yixing replied, shoulders slumped and gaze falling to the floor.

"Yixing" Yifan said gently
"W-why could I be born a Jin? Or a Zhou? Why do I have to be a Zhang?" and with that started shaking, sobbing silently. Yifan didn't know what to do, he wasn't the best person to go to for comfort, all he could do was pat Yixing on the back until the guy moped on over to his room and shut himself in there for the rest of the night...

Thank goodness Kris has so many names to him otherwise this chapter would not have worked!

Anything left out here, obviously will be explained in later chapters. Hopefully everything up there ^ with Yixing's parents made sense!

Finally; Yixing's parents, from the various posts and his mum's weibo posts, they're darlings and are in no way as mean as they are in this story. For fic purposes though, I had to make them ! So please forgive me for making them mean!

Until the next chapter!!
