Assignment

Daeya couldn’t help but think about the meeting she had had in the morning. She didn’t even knew if whe could call that a meeting. After bumping into someone she had met the eyes of the boy’s and it was pretty much it.

But for her it wasn’t “it”. By meeting the look of the man she knew something wasn’t right. She knew she had met those eyes before but she also knew she had never ever seen the guy anywhere. Sure, they seemed to go to the same university but if she had some contact with him she knew she would have remembered it.

Something else was also strange: by exchanging looks she had felt a strange feeling running through her body and mind. She had felt at the same time utterly ecstatic but also absolutely frightened.

Realizing she was thinking of the boy once more, she scolded herself. Why did she keep thinking of him? She would probably never meet him again and it was probably for the best. What bothered her the most was that she had been thinking of this short but intense minute all day long.

What made her even angry was that, because of this, she hadn’t really paid attention to her photograph class and she hated that.

What she hated most was that she didn’t even thought of what she was going to do for her assignment…

*FLASHBACK*

Daeya couldn’t help but think of the boy she had just bumped into as she was heading to the library to look for a few books for her classes. What irritated her was also the fact that the boy hadn’t even really apologized bumping that hard into her.

He was just RUDE. But why did she have such mixed feelings as if she knew he was also someone great? She felt like a crazy person in every way: her mind seemed somehow to be splitting in half… She was also imagining how was this man’s personality which was totally crazy.

Entering the room in which she had her next class she sat on a random chair, still lost in her thoughts.

“Hey! You’re here!”

Her trail of thoughts stopped as her class mate, HongBin, called her.

“Yes…” she answered flatly, still lost by the situation.

“So… how have you been?”

She looked at him blankly as she pondered about telling him about her meeting of not.

“… Nothing special really. What about you?”

“Well, I have been to the book store you told me about and…” Daeya nodded absent-mindlessly, faking to listen as her thoughts were on the boy again.

He had such a nice face…

“Hello class. I hope you’re ready to hear about your first big assignment for this school year!”

“Yes teacher!”

Excitement could be heard in this one word. Only one answer sounded tone-less: Daeya was trying ti know from where she could know the boy. But it was all in vain. She just didn’t know the boy at all.

“Are you alright miss? If not someone could help you go to the nurse…”

Raising her head, Daeya understood the teacher was talking to her.

“No, I’m alright. Sorry, I’ll be more focused from now on.”

“… So as I as saying, to become a great photographer you don’t only have to take great photographs. The most important thing, like in every art, is that you must have a special feature to distinguish from other good photographs…”

She knew she should have paid attention but she couldn’t help but be somehow bothered by her thoughts.

“… As I was saying earlier it would be too easy for you if I gave you a single concept to handle for your assignment. Everybody learns by facing difficulties and you’ll learn from your mistakes if you do some. So what you will have to do is that you’re going to have to cross two different concepts.  You’ll be part of a group but, at the opposite of the other classes where you have to work altogether the people belonging to your group will be your opponents. You won’t have to do a good or a great job. You’ll have to be the best of your group.”

Students exchanged puzzled looks. It wasn’t often in photograph classes that they were having some sort of competitions. It was even the first time.

Of course they have been looking at the others’ portfolio to know if they were at the same level in a way, but they would have never thought that a teacher would put them in such position.

Even Daeya had been stunned even though she didn’t really listen.

“I’ll let you be in groups. I must have at least five people in the same group. Please chose and get together. You have five minutes;”

Seeing the his friend was still not concentrated, HongBin took her arm and dragged her around, looking for a group. They finally sat with another girl and two other boys.

As she raised her head, Daeya realized that the three other people were looking at her. HongBin nudged her: “maybe you should introduce yourself don’t ou think?”

“Oh… Sorry… I’m quite… Sorry… My name is Daeya, and I’ve been interested to be a photograph for quite a long time now…”

“My name is KiBeom…”

Daeya hadn’t realized she switched of from the conversation until the teacher arrived near them.

“So… In this table we have… HongBin, KiBeom, Hyosung, Minhyuk and Daeya… This is going to be interesting. You have a very strong group in term of photograph personalities. I’ve noticed work from each of you when I’ve seen your portfolios so you’re going to have a fierce competition and be the best… Any question?”

“I only have one question miss: What is our assignment?”

“You’re impatient to know Minhyuk. That’s great. You’ll have a very short notice to do this so you’ll have to think carefully about the spot you’re going to take your photos from among other things…”

“I don’t want to be rude miss but you told us that earlier… Can we just know the assignment?” asked HongBin.

It was well known that all the teachers had a soft spot for their most handsome student and HongBin sometimes used that.

“You’re right. I’ll just give you your assignment. This group is going to work on the theme “Passion at dusk”. You have a week from now to give your work. Don’t be late or else you’ll be eliminated and you don’t want that."

I'm leaving you on this little cliffhanger (eliminated from the class? ^^)
