chapter seventeen
Powerless Wonder
As much as Minseok liked heroes (like the ones in books), he did not wish for a heroic death. On that matter, what counted as a heroic death anyway? Was it sacrificing yourself? Was it dying after a long battle? Was it dying saving someone else in some way? Or was it something entirely else?
Being honest Minseok would say he did not like being around other people too much, but that did not mean he wouldn't give his life for someone else's. For whatever reason he'd probably do all of the above. It wasn't about being heroic to him, he just knew that he wasn't of much use anyway (and that someone else could use their life better than he was able to use his own).
Beside all of that Minseok only wished for a quiet death, if anything. No pain, because he really didn't like pain.
Preferable in his sleep; quickly in silence.
He wouldn't need to tell anyone goodbye. Whenever someone happened to go out of his life (whatever way), they had never said goodbye. Minseok could make a list about untold goodbyes (but that would be way too depressing, wouldn't it?). He had never known there was one to say.
He thought that Luhan, on the other hand, should know there was one to come soon enough, by now.
"So my mother was here that day?" Minseok nonchalantly asked, feeling exhausted even while lying in his bed. 9 o'clock - he couldn't sleep. It was early in the morning, but he really wanted to. It's been a week since that seizure.
"Hmm," Luhan only hummed, seemingly not interested in talking about that.
Minseok sighed softly,"Well, tell me about it. Did she say something? Anything? What did she do and--" he got into a coughing fit and Luhan immediately jumped off his chair to hand him a glass water. "Minseok, don't..." Luhan only said, looking at Minseok as if he wasn't only seeing Minseok's body breaking, but also his heart.
"What 'don't'?" Minseok gives him a wicked grin,"Tell me about it." At the end he cleared his throat (he should have kept his usual silence, Luhan made him talk more than he had done before they met). Minseok took the glass water out of Luhan's hand as soon as he brought himself into a sitting position and took small gulps.
"Seemed like she was guilty," Luhan scoffed, taking the now empty glass when Minseok was done and put it onto the nightstand. Minseok frowned at him, confusion in a million different ways in his expression. Luhan, seeing that, sat down on the chair with a sigh again. Taking Minseok's hand he played with it, not daring to look into Minseok's icy eyes,"She literally tried to justify her actions."
Minseok narrowed his eyes at him, deciding he should talk less again. It was almost as if he knew what Luhan had said to his mother.
Luhan understood after a few seconds,"I-I may have said some things as well, but nothing bad I swear!"
Minseok titled his head away from the intern,"She's only human."
Luhan made a disapproving face,"No no, wait. I am only human, too. And I'd be with my child, my loved ones, if anything happened. I mean, I am right now."
And Minseok would have blushed but it just wasn't right. He stared at the wall across the room (like in old times) while it
