chapter ten
Powerless Wonder
"Hey, Minseok, how are you feeling?"
"Okay," Minseok mumbled nonchalantly, eyes not leaving the page of the book in front of him.
Minseok could have been everything but okay, Luhan thought.
Minseok on the other side thought, Luhan asked how he was feeling, and not about any facts - though Minseok knew what Luhan meant.
His eyebags were darker, his eyes who looked so icy before did not have any ice in them anymore - rather a cold breeze that could cut your skin. His eyes showed how weak his body was and how tired out his soul was as well. So he glanced over to the new machine next to him and hated the feeling of the oxygen mask on his face.
Two days ago (one day after they had gone to the park), a late afternoon, Luhan went home to get fresh clothes again and regretted that as soon as he came back to Room 201. The room had felt so cold, colder than it was usually (Minseok liked the cold more than warmth, so it was always rather cool in there).
Luhan had let his bag fall on the floor, not even noticing it himself he had slowly found himself sitting right there by the door, on the hard floor.
He had been away for about an hour at most.
Minseok's eyes had been closed and his skin even paler than normal. The transparent oxygen mask covering half of his face and the weird machine that stood next to the bed, made this scene even more bitter.
After a while Luhan had stood up, taken his usual seat by Minseok's side. A warm smile spreads across his face to greet the tired man - Minseok's eyes were blank as they opened slightly, no coldness and especially not any expected emotions like sadness or anger showing. It seemed as if Minseok had been too exhausted for those.
Luhan's smile was not warm enough to melt Minseok's frozen heart, but enough to melt the ice that stung in Minseok's eyes since forever - Luhan refuses to think it's because Minseok wasn't able to put it up anymore. Blank and Cold never had much difference to Luhan anyway, but now that he sees how much it changed Minseok's gaze, he understood the difference.
Back to the present time, Minseok acted like he always did - which confused (and maybe frustrated) Luhan to no ends.
Besides fumbling with the oxygen mask from time to time, Minseok did what he always did - reading, sleeping, sometimes listen to Luhan.
Minseok never thought Luhan could spend even more time with him, but he underestimated Luhan.
The deer like boy did his best to never leave Minseok alone, or alone with someone else. When a doctor or a nurse asked him to do his usual errands (that took highly 5 minutes away from Minseok) he politely refused and however he did it, he found better things to do in Room 201. Of course,
