Charlotte's POV

It was the morning of the wedding, and I had managed to get up and start getting ready

An evil thought to wear white to the wedding crossed my mind, but that's just rude

I was straightening my hair, when Champ comes in with the stuffed turtle Kai gave me

"How do you keep finding this?" I yank it out of his mouth

I look at it, and decide to part ways, then I give it back to Champ

"Here, go at it all you want, it's lost its sentimental value anyway" I say and he takes his playing into the living room

When I was done straightening my hair, I sat and watched Champ play with the turtle

Was I ready to watch him get married? 

I look over at my dress, it was as dark as possible, but it wasn't black, instead it was Navy Blue

I put it on and end up right back in the spot I was before, sitting on my bed

Suddenly I hear the doorbell ring, I open it to see Woonha. 

"What are you doing here?" I had to admit, seeing him brought a smile to my face 

"I've come to pick my date up, what you thought I gave you that invitation for nothing?"

"I never agreed to be your date, besides shouldn't you already be there, being the best man and all" 

"I was there and Kai thought you might need some assistance getting there" he tells me as I let him in 

"In other words, you were going to force me to go if I changed my mind" 

"Exactly, but I see there was no use, you're dressed like you were going to go"

"I was still going back and forth though, it took me a while to get to this point" 

"But everyone wants you there, Kai's mom and my dad were excited when they heard you were coming, and so was Emilee" 

"Alright, since everyone is dying to see me, I guess I'll go. I just have to finish getting ready"

"I'll be out here waiting for you" 

When I went back in the bathroom, I was still pondering on whether or not to go, so I still go slow

By the time I went to go put my shoes on, I had been in the bathroom for half and hour 

"Okay I'm ready" I announce to Woonha, I had made up my mind to go and it was final 

I didn't hear a response 

"Woonha?" I go in my living room and he wasn't there

I open the door to see Kai leaning on the wall across from it

"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at the church"

"I was, but you and Woonha were taking too long, so I came down here to get you myself"

"Okay well I'm ready" I grab my purse and we head out. 

Kai drives us, forcing me not to have a car to runaway in 

When I step inside, it looked beyond beautiful. 

"I'll see you in a bit"

"Okay, good luck" I say, I was slowly getting stronger

I see Mrs. Kim, she waves me over to come sit with her

"I can't believe my little boy is getting married" she tells me

"You're telling me" 

"You want to hear a secret?"

"Hmm?"

"When he told me he was getting married, I thought he was going to say you were his fiance"

I just fake laugh, I wonder if she knew Jinsang and I got a divorce

"I always thought Kai had a crush on you, but I know how could he even compare to Jinsang" 

Yeah no she had no idea

I just nod my head, not willing to fill her in on the up-to-date details

"Where is Jinsang?"

"He-uh couldn't make it, that job of his never let's him off" I joke and she smiles

"So hardworking, I wish Woonha would be like that, the ladies at the office always tell me he's asking for days off" 

"Sounds like Woonha"

"That reminds me, how come you quit working there?"

"It wasn't the same without you, I didn't really like Lola"

"Yeah, I could see why" 

Before the conversation of lies could go any further, the music started and we all stood as Emilee made her way down the aisle

I averted my attention from her to Kai. the look in his eye, reminded me of when he'd look at me like that

Stop it Charlotte, you're only going to make it worse

I just wanted to bite my toungue and get it over with, I would make up some excuse why I couldn't go to the reception so I could go back home

I could barely pay attention to the officiant's speech, I was focused on Kai. 

Why wasn't it me?

Why did you leave?

Why didn't you tell me where you were going?

I would have protected you from Jinsang

I would have done anything to make you stay

I should be the one marrying you today

I couldn't stop all the thoughts, and eventually I broke down and started crying. 

I wasn't ready to let go, so I quietly excused myself from the ceremony and started walking home. 

I had only realized just how far my house was when I wasn't even halfway there and it started pouring rain

"Just my luck" I say and go inside a donut shop until the rain let up

I ordered a dozen sprinkled donuts with the little bit of money I brought, which I probably should have spent trying to get home but I was sad and needed comfort food

I found a hairtie in my purse and tied my wet hair into a bun and kicked my heels off 

"Rough day?" the donut man asks me

"More like rough life sir" 

He just nods and gives me some milk on the house

I had managed to finish half the box and all my milk, then I sat there with my head down until the rain let up 

"Hey you want me to call you a taxi? I don't think it's safe for you to walk in the dark, especially in heels. You can't run in those" 

"Thanks for offering, but I think I'll call a friend" 

I called my next door neighbor who owed me after she woke me up in the middle of the night to help her carry out her drunk friends to her car. 

"Whoa, rough day?" she says when she sees me

"You could say that" I decided not to respond "rough life" like I did the donut man since I would probably see her again. 

As were going up to our apartments, there was someone standing near my door

"Who is that?" I mumble, my make-up smudged eyes weren't seeing clear

"Hey, if that's a stranger, I have pepper spray in my bag" she assures me

He turns and I see it's Kai

"No it's fine, I know him" she takes her hand out of her bag 

"Okay, stay safe, and feel free to call me whenever you need a ride again" she says when we reach our doors

I ignore Kai, go inside my apartment and close the door after me 

Whatever he had to say, I did not feel like listening

"Charlotte please open the door, I have to talk to you" 

Instead of opening the door, I took off my wet outfit and took a hot shower, then got in my pajamas and ready for bed. 

I see my phone had 50 missed calls, so I just turned it off 

Eventually he'll leave

At around midnight, I hear my door being opened. I hop out of bed and see my landlord and Kai walking in

"Mr. Rodriguez, why are you letting him inside of my apartment, you don't know if he's dangerous or not" 

"I know he's not, he's been waiting out here for hours, if he was going to hurt you I'm sure he would have forced his way in here by now. Plus he showed me a picture of you two, so I know you know him. Have a good night" he says before he leaves 

"Why are you here? I'm sorry I left in the middle of your wedding, but I was breaking down and couldn't take it anymore" 

"Charlotte I-"

"I thought I could at least get through the ceremony but I couldn't"

"Okay but-"

"If you're mad at me, be mad at me in the morning, I'm super tired and full of donuts, and I just want to go-"

"Stop interrupting me"

I stay quiet so he can say what he came here to say

"I didn't marry her Charlotte, I couldn't"
