The Day We Fell Apart

Hello Cold World: Forever & Almost Always
The Day We Fell Apart
Summer of 2008

Seonyul and Byunghee were having an intimate picnic at the park as they were enjoying the summer breeze under the bright sun, resting by a big tree. They were lying on their backs watching the clouds as they were having fun finding different shapes while inventing random stories.

From the sky, Byunghee turned his face to the side looking at his girlfriend smiling as she was having those twinkle in her eyes. He turned to his side and propped himself on his elbow and leaned closer placing a kiss on her forehead.

She looked at him and cupped his cheek, bringing him closer so she could kiss him back, on his lips. Pulling away, he wrapped his arms around her waist as he lay on his back again, and brought her closer to his chest. From where her head was placed, she could feel his heart beating and smiled feeling that her heart was beating at the same rhythm as his, making them beat as one.

The hand that was resting on his chest joined his hands as they intertwined their fingers, stretched out in front of them, just under the sun making the rays of light surrounding their joint hands having to feel the warmth it was bringing.

Seonyul looked up to her man, giving him a quick peck on his cheek.

Byunghee looks down at her and gently smiles as he places their hands back down and swiftly turns around so he could be on top while he hovers over his girlfriend placing his forearm by her head, not leaving her eyes.

The pace of her heart beating sped up, feeling the butterflies in the pit of her stomach while having that cheesy smile on her face as he caressed her cheek. He leaned closer to her and placed a sweet kiss on her lips. She kisses him back as she wrapped her arms around his neck, closing the small space they had between each other.

Despite being in a public place, the park was completely deserted which made their intimate moment more romantic without having to fear for any kind of disturbance.

They went to their kiss, tasting each other's lips sweet from the fruits they ate and deepened it every second, wanting more of the other. Seonyul slowly bended her knee, letting Byunghee be more comfortable in his position between her as he slid his hands along her arms until he reached her fingers and brought them back up, by her head again.

He pressed his lower body against hers, making her moan into the kiss which made her lightly arched her back feeling his hips against hers.

They were so caught up in their world that a duck from the river next to them flew out of nowhere and sat on Byunghee's back, completely making itself comfortable.

Hearing it quack, they stop what they were doing, and looked at each other, unaware of what to do.

They burst out laughing when the duck made another quack feeling the boy's body shaking as he was giggling. The duck flew from his back to the picnic basket facing the couple as he tilted his head to the side.

“I think he's judging us looking at what were doing right now.”

“You think so?”

“Yea… And it's kind of creepy too…”

“Well that's adorable~”

He chuckles at her sweetness while he rolls to the side, getting off of Seonyul.

They both look back at the duck that hasn't moved an inch but instead was comfortably sitting on the top of the basket. Byunghee made himself more comfortable as he rested his back against the tree with his legs stretched out.

From lying on her back, Seonyul got up and joined her boyfriend by sitting on his lap, his legs between hers as she was facing him, placing her arms around his neck with his hands holding her waist. “Hi.”

“Hi~”

She made herself more comfortable as she wrapped her legs around him, making her sit on his, now, folded legs. She was playing with his strands of his blond hair not paying attention to the man that was staring at her, enjoying his view. She looks back at him dumbfounded.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“No, seriously, is there something on my face?”

“No, let's just say I was enjoying my view…”

“Oh.”

“I have a gift for you.”

“Huh?”

“I can't really give it to you since it's in my pocket and you're kind of sitting on me -“

“Oh, sorry~”

She gets up from his lap and sits in front of him wondering what was the special occasion that was hiding behind this sudden gift.

Reaching for his side pocket, he pulls out an entangled silver chains were two golden rings were hanging onto it. She gasps with eyes wide open, seeing what he was holding in his hands as he placed them in her palm.

She looked at her closed hand and then back at him, speechless.

As he looked at her, he leans his lips closers to her and kisses her.

From her lips he nuzzled his face in her neck and starts placing sweet kisses on her skin as she was softly tugging his hair. She was still holding onto the rings in one hand and gently pushed him away, waiting for an explanation.

“Byunghee… What is this?”

“They are rings, silly”

“I know they are, but… Why?”

“For us… to hold on to… Seonyul-ah, my dear Camellia… Marry me.”

Without a second thought, she smashed her trembling lips on his, enclosing her arms around his neck as she was sitting on her knees. He felt her uncomfortable position and to change that, he placed his hands on her thighs and brought her closer so she could sit on his lap, straddling him.

The sudden innocent and romantic atmosphere that was surrounding the couple changed into a heated make out session.

From her thighs, Byunghee slides his hand on her back and under her shirt feeling her hot skin tingle at his touch. She gasped into the kiss as she felt him her back, and he took this chance to deepen the kiss wanting to taste every inch of .

The quack of the duck was what got them out of their little moment leaving both of them speechless as they pulled away the tip of their nose touching and smiling.

“How about we go and finish our picnic at my place?”

“I like the sound of that~”

They get up, and try to pack their things as the duck was still there, on the basket.

Byunghee slowly makes his way towards the animal, his arms stretched out, trying to pick him up so he could leave.

It went wrong the moment he touched him as he scared the bird, accidentally hitting Byunghee on the face with his batting wings. Seeing him stubble and fall straight on his , Seonyul couldn't help but to burst out laughing at the silliness of the scene she just witnessed.

The duck flew away, absolutely scared and landed back on the surface of the water, away from the couple.

With that over, they picked up the rest of their stuff and headed back to Seonyul's place.

By the time they arrived, the sun was hiding from a big set of clouds as the sky went grey, announcing that a storm was coming.

They quickly got inside the house and dropped everything in the kitchen.

She was by the counter while he was by the table both facing each other in complete silence.

Seonyul was holding onto the edge of the counter looking straight to Byunghee while he slowly made his way to her, heating up the room step by step.

In just a few seconds, he lifted her up and wrapped her legs around his waist, walking out of the kitchen as they were headed to her bedroom on the second floor.

Inside the room, he heads to bed and gently lays her down with him on top.

He pulls away and takes off his shirt showing the two rings in the necklace hanging around his neck on his chest.

She stretched out her arm grazing his abdomen upwards until her fingers rested on the rings, smiling and pulling him towards her placing a soft kiss on his lips.

She looked back at him as she placed her hand on his cheek caressing it without breaking their deep eye contact.

Byunghee, I’m yours… Forever and always.”

He was lying on his back and she was lying in his arms, interlocked and wrapped under the covers.

The rain was pouring outside in the cold night, leaving the couple in the warmth of their bed sheets.

Seonyul was quietly playing with the necklace while Byunghee was watching her as he was her hair.

However, though this moment was perfect, something didn't seemed right and Byunghee could feel it.

Despite having the love of his life, right here in his arms, his heart was aching.

Something inside of him was making him worry and he couldn't put a finger on it.

She seemed to notice him stiff from time to time and hearing him sigh deeply. She bit her bottom lip thinking that it was probably because she hasn't given him an answer yet from his earlier proposal.

She looked at the ring and noticed the engravings inside of each one of them. She smiled thinking about her future with the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.

He looked down at her as she was holding the rings from his chain and re-asked his earlier question. Marry me?”

“Yes.” She turned around, to face him as she gave her answer watching a smile appearing on his face.

“Really?”

“Of course, every prince needs a princess.”

“And every king needs his queen~”

“And… maybe even more…”

“More?”

She takes his hand in hers and places it on her stomach waiting to see his reaction.

Slowly, he finally understands and as shocked as he is, he couldn't help but smile his cheesiest smile he had ever put on. “Really?!”

“Mhmm.”

He pulls her up and smashes his lips on hers as he rolls over almost crushing her against the mattress. She starts to laugh seeing how excited he was getting by the news and broke the kiss. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

At that moment, Byunghee's cell phone rang.

He was reluctant to get it since his worries came back.

He picked it up and looked at the caller ID and saw that it was his uncle who was calling. He hesitated before answering but got nudged from Seonyul telling him to answer it.

“Hello?”

After a couple of minutes he hangs up the phone and gets out of bed.

Seonyul looked at him worried as she prepped herself on her elbow looking at her boyfriend getting dressed.

“What's wrong?”

“Ji-Hoon just called and he wants to see me.”

“Did he tell you why?”

“No, just that it was important.”

“I guess it is since its practically night outside…”

Before putting his shirt on, he took on the necklace and unhooked the first ring.

By now, Seonyul was sitting at the edge of the bed, covered in the bed sheets and looking at Byunghee who was getting down on his knee as he reached out to take her hand and placed the ring on her finger.

“It's perfect.”

He places a kiss on her hand and gets up.

He finishes getting dressed and looks back at Seonyul who was getting up from bed, still having the covers around her.

“Don't stay to long.”

“Okay. I'll come back when I'm done.”

He leans in, cups her cheek and places a deep kiss onto her lips.

She wasn't expecting this which made her drop the bed covers, leaving her body exposed as she wrapped her arms around his waist, closing the space between them.

He pulls away and places a last kiss on her forehead.

“I love you.”

“Forever and always.”

He smiles at her as he grazes one last time her cheek and places his other hand on her stomach.

Before leaving, he bends down taking the covers and wrapping them around her, shielding her from the cold.

With a kiss on the lips, he left the room and on his way out of the house.

As he stepped into his car and drove away, Seonyul couldn't help but feel something ache in her heart.

She places both her hands on her stomach thinking that it could have been nausea but deep down, she had a bad feeling about something and somehow it was screaming at her, something she couldn't understand.

She fell onto the edge of the bed, as it got worse.

And then it stopped.

Completely stopped.

As she slowly got up, the ring she was wearing on her finger fell out on the wooden floor of her room.

The golden halo representing their future, tightly secured around her finger crashed down, hard on the surface, the sound faintly echoing through the room.

It is remembered as the day they fell apart.

The first thing Seonyul sees when she wakes up is a familiar face.

His face.

The problem was that she was torn in between believing whether it was Byunghee or G.O that was just right here, next to her and protecting her.
