Jessica stormed out of the room. She will never do what they asked her to. Not in their wildest dreams!

“You are our last hope Jessica.”

She’s had enough of that.

“If you don’t say yes to President Tan’s marriage proposal, all of our business will get dissolved. Thousands of families will suffer, including ours. I hate to tell you this, but you have no choice. You say no, it will be the end of us. He will bring us down. So please, help.” Her mother pleaded with her, for the first time.

And she turned her down flat.

“Have you lost your mind mom? Why marry me off to a man who is old enough to be my freaking grandpa? Why the hell are you doing this to me? He’s a good-for-nothing bastard and you’re offering me like some piece of cake with icing on top to him? I can’t believe this. Why can’t you just look for other ways, explore other options? Surely dad has not lost his touch. He’s a damn powerful tycoon for goodness sake!”

“Watch your mouth Jessica!” Her mother’s voice went up a notch, but Jessica couldn’t care less.

“Never. I will never marry that old bastard. You’re not making me mom. Not even dad can force me to.” Jessica felt tears threatening to fall from her eyes, but she tried to sport a stoic face.

“Please Jessica.” Her mother’s voice softened. “Your dad is just human. He made mistakes. And we will lose everything we have right now if—”

“The HELL I care!”

That's when she stormed madly out the door.

And cried silently in her room.

But no matter how hard she tried to shake it off, her mother’s words kept running through her head.

We will lose everything we have.

But if she agrees to it, she's afraid to lose someone.

“What’s wrong?”

Everything is so wrong right now.

She wanted to cry her heart out and let the girl assure her that everything is going to be okay, but nothing will ever be the same again if she agrees to the proposal.

Tan will take her away from home and make her live with him in the US. He made damn sure to indirectly let her know of this through a business meeting with her father.

She hates him.

She first met him while she visited her dad in his office. He was sitting in her father’s chair like a king, and the moment he saw her walk in, he lustfully stared at her from head to toe.

She despised the man ever since. Forty years older than her and still acting like a young bachelor! She badly wanted to punch him in the face right there and then. Thank God her father arrived minutes later.

“Jessica. Is something troubling you? Tell me please.”

Plus, she just couldn’t dare to leave her, whom she had fallen deeply in love with for as long as she can remember.

Her maidservant, Kwon Yuri.

Yuri’s father, Sehun, was her dad’s most trusted butler. Her daughter lived with him in their mansion. They grew up together.

Her sister would often get jealous at how close they are with each other, but they couldn’t help it.

It’s as if they were meant to be a pair from the start.

But Yuri doesn’t know.

She doesn’t know that behind the bossy, dominant, and cold face that the lady she’s serving shows most of the time; more often than not it’s actually a mask to hide her true feelings towards her.

But Jessica knows Yuri likes her though. It’s just that she doesn't have the guts to tell.

"Yul?"

“Yes?”

They were lying in the lush grass of the Jung’s vast garden, watching the stars in the clear night sky, each of them thinking silently of the other.

“Should I say yes?”

Yuri heaved a sigh.

"Yul?"

“Do you like him Sica?”

Sometimes Yuri would love calling her by this name, and her heart would do somersaults every single time.

“You know I don’t. Hell I won’t.” She chuckled softly. “But if I decline, we will lose everything.”

“You will never lose me.” Yuri whispered.

Jessica heard it. She drew near and nestled her face in the crook of the other girl’s neck, inhaling her scent.

Yuri shivered inside.
