Chapter 22

Hold On, my Warrior

The next day Himchan wasn’t at school; I stopped by his classroom just to make sure (Kris told me where it was). Wow, he actually listened to me. The day was nice and peaceful; there was also no sighting of Namjoon. After school I stopped by Himchan’s classroom again and gathered his homework before heading over to his house. When I reached it, the guards let me right in and I headed up to Himchan’s room. I opened the door and found him lying on his bed with his ankle carefully wrapped up, writing. He didn’t hear me come in, so I leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed. I watched him furiously writing stuff down for a bit until I grew bored. “What are you working on?” I called out, starting to walk towards him. His head shot up in surprise, and he quickly tried to throw the notebook under his pillow, instead sending it flying off the bed. Curious, I bent down and picked it up, staying just out of reach of the bedridden and desperate Himchan. It fell open to where Himchan had just been writing – the spine was bent a good deal from that page – and I saw a bunch of music notes. I looked up at him curiously. “You’re writing music?” He sighed loudly and leaned back, resting his head against the bed frame. “Yeah” was all he said. I looked back at the book and noticed some lyrics. Without thinking, I started to read the first few lines out loud.

“I can’t believe it, it’s really perfect

I am breathless, it’s not fair

Your eyes, your lips, your everything really left me shook up”

I only got that far before, in a hurried attempt to shut me up, Himchan fell off the side of the bed, crashing down on me. It took him a second to get back to his senses and, when he did, he looked and saw me staring up at him, one eyebrow raised, our faces within inches of each other’s. His face turned beet red, and he scrambled off of me, muttering something that sounded like an apology. I stared at him for a second before busting up laughing, causing him to scowl at me. “What are you laughing at?” I wiped a tear from my eye, trying to contain my laughter. “It’s just that the more time I spend with you, the more you don’t seem like this spoiled brat who only knows how to bully people. It’s nice.” I said, smiling at him. He stared at me, stunned for a second, before going back to a scowl and snatching his notebook up. He began to try to stand, but it seemed as though his leg was still hurting him, so I hurried and stood up and helped him back onto the bed. Once he was settled back in, I sat down on the bed and handed him his homework. As he was getting his stuff out I spaced out a bit, thinking back to the music he had been writing. I started humming it to myself, remembering the tune. “You know,” I said, suddenly stopping. “That’s actually not half bad.” I looked up to see Himchan looking at me. “You can read music?” he asked, and I froze. “Oh, yeah, just a little bit.” I suddenly stood up and grabbed my stuff. “Well, if that’s all you need, then I’ll be off. If your leg still hurts tomorrow, feel free to skip again; I’ll help you catch up.” I then turned and left the room before he could say anything, and quickly made my way out of the house, heading to my own. As I went up to my room I glanced into the guest room. I looked at the guitar sitting there for a second – and a second too long – before pulling myself away, sighing, and going into my room. I quickly changed, now only thinking about tonight, and headed out. I soon arrived at the club, and was almost instantly tackled by Hyunsoo. Laughing, I pulled him off of me and ruffled his hair, greeting him. “I missed you Noona!” he said before dragging me further into the club, where we soon found Gunwoo. He greeted me with a smile, and I did the same. I was about to say something when Hyunsoo suddenly yanked on my arm, dragging me away from Gunwoo. “You promised to dance with me last time, remember?” he asked, looking up at me with big round eyes and a wide smile. I laughed and told him he was correct. He grinned and released me and jumped into the middle of the floor, instantly busting out in some amazing moves. I watched him dance for a little bit, amazed that this boy could move like that, before jumping in with an aerial. The two of us were having fun going back and forth for a while until I suddenly felt a chill crawl up my spine as I was watching Hyunsoo dance. I spun around to see none other than Namjoon standing there, smirking at me. “Hey there kitty” he said, winking at me. “What the hell are you doing here?” I asked, glaring at him. He clapped his hand over his heart and gave me a hurt look. “I only stopped by to have some fun, when I ended up spotting you out there. What a coincidence, right? I think this is fate bringing us together.” He leaned in far too close for my comfort, and it took everything I had to not send my fist flying into his face; I didn’t want to make a ruckus in here. Instead, I pushed his face away from mine, glaring at him the entire time, and headed over to Gunwoo. I heard the crowd cheering for Hyunsoo, and I could sense Namjoon following me, keeping a bit of a distance. I went over to Gunwoo and just started naturally talking to him, trying my best to ignore Namjoon’s presence behind me. Gunwoo said something that made me laugh, and it seemed like that was the last straw for Namjoon. He suddenly came up to us, arms crossed, and glared at Gunwoo. “So who the hell’s this guy? You cheating on your other little boyfriend? That’s no good.” He suddenly turned to me and slammed me against the wall, pinning me there. “When you’re mine, you don’t even look at other guys.” Disgusted, I spat in his face. “Since when have I been yours, you crazy bastard?” He smirked at me and wiped the spit off of his cheek before quickly putting his face right in front of mine, our noses just barely touching. “You’re mine now, and you’re going to need to learn that.” He started to tilt his head and lean in, and I was about to knee him in the nuts, when all of a sudden he was yanked off of me. I looked just in time to see Gunwoo deliver a heavy punch to Namjoon’s face, sending him to the floor. Before I could say anything, he picked Namjoon up and threw him over his shoulder and carried him out of the club before throwing him unceremoniously onto the ground. Namjoon started to get up, but I planted my foot on his shoulder, shoving him back down. “I think it’s best if you don’t come back here again.” Gunwoo said angrily, glaring down at Namjoon. Namjoon sneered and stood up, dusted himself off, and then turned to me, that sneer still plastered on his face. “I’ll see you later, my little kitten.” He said, before turning and walking away. After he was gone, Gunwoo turned to me with a look on his face that was begging answers. I briefly told him what had happened the other night, and how he had followed me to my school, and he just stood there in shock. “Why the hell have you let this gone on like that? Excuse me; I need to beat the out of this creep.” I grabbed his sleeve to prevent him from going, earning a confused look from him. “I don’t need you to fight my battles for me, alright? It’s not like you beating him up is going to do any good anyways. The only way he’ll learn is if I do it myself.” He looked like he was going to argue with me, but then he sighed in understanding, and I let him go. “But I swear, if he ever comes back here to harass you, I’m going to beat the out of him.” He growled. All of a sudden Hyunsoo came bolting out of the club and wrapped his arms around my waist. “Noona! Are you leaving already?” I glanced at the time and groaned. “It’s already this late; I have to go. I’m sorry Hyunsoo-ah.” I gave him a quick little hug before turning to say goodbye to Gunwoo. He was staring at me with him arms crossed. “I’ll walk you home.” He said. I started to protest, but he cut me off. “I don’t care what you say; I’m walking you home, and that’s that.” Hyunsoo tried to tag along too, but Gunwoo sent him back into the club to wait for him. The two of us walked in silence – not an awkward one, but a nice, peaceful one – just enjoying the night air. I liked this about Gunwoo. I never felt pressured to talk around him, though I still do most of the time. It’s nice having someone with who you can be comfortable with and just be able to enjoy the silence together. When we finally reached my house, I thanked Gunwoo and bid goodnight to him. He waited until I had gone completely into my house and closed the door before he headed back to the club.
