The only sound that was heard was the humming of the car as it sped down the street. Yoona kept glancing at Yuri, sizing her up. Yoona couldn’t help but wonder how a girl only a year older and with the same physique was entrusted to keep her safe.

It was an understatement to say Yoona had no faith in Yuri. She was sure Yuri couldn’t keep her safe, it was physically impossible. However this was the only way she could escape her crazy mother and overbearing father.

It wasn’t that Yoona didn’t love them, because she did. However her mother didn’t like to act her age and her father… his job had made him a hard man to love.

“We’re here.” Yoona’s thoughts were interrupted by her driver’s voice. She automatically looked towards Yuri, who was grabbing her things.

“Oh! So that’s how the Talk Talk Café looks like!” Yoona exclaimed as she looked out the window.

“You know this place?” Yuri stopped opening the car door and looked at Yoona surprised.

“Well… I’ve never been here but my friend Sunny loves this place. She comes and picks up pastries for Tiffany and I all the time. I love their caramel coffee! It’s amazing!” Yoona didn’t look away from the café. She looked like a child with her hands and face pressed against the window.

“Would you like to come in with me?”

Yoona looked away from the window and stared at Yuri. “B-but aren’t you meeting someone?”

“Yeah, the owner. You can come in and take some pastries to-go. Then you’ll be on your way.” Yuri couldn’t help but smile as the pampered princess’s face brightened.

“I would love to!” Before Yuri even had the chance to reply Yoona was already out of the car, standing in front of the café door.

Yuri shook her head and let out a small laugh before heading out as well. She stood by Yoona and looked up at the café just as the younger girl was doing.

“Is everything okay?” Yuri didn’t understand just how special this moment was for Yoona.

“… I’m free.” Yoona’s face broke out into a grin so bright she could lighten even the darkest of days. Yuri couldn’t help but stare. “This is the first time I’m out alone without my parents or their bodyguards. I was always able to look at these streets but never step out onto them. I’m free… and this is only the beginning of all the things I want to do.”

“Well… I don’t mean to burst your bubble but technically I’m your bodyguard now…” Yuri watched as Yoona stopped to think for a moment and then began to chuckle.

“You’re my companion now. Not a babysitter; not a bodyguard. Plus I wanna see you try to stop me from going out.” Yoona smirked as she dared Yuri. She gave the older girl a passing glance before entering the café.

Yuri stood outside for a moment taking in what had just happened. She had just been challenged and it was obvious to her that Yoona meant every word. Yuri could tell she was in for a hand full judging by Yoona’s adventurous urges. Yuri groaned thinking of how she was going to handle her and walked in to the café.

Once inside she say Yoona talking to Taeyeon, ordering pastry after pastry.

“… and I want one of that one and that one. What does this have? You know what, it doesn’t matter I want to try it as well!” Yuri shook her head at the overly excited Yoona and the frantic Taeyeon trying to keep up with her order.

“Ms. Yoona, relax. You’re going to give Taeyeon a heart attack.” Yuri chuckled as Yoona’s back straightened and she flushed in embarrassment.

“Yuri!” Taeyeon walked around the counter and hugged Yuri tightly. “You are late!”

“Sorry Taeng, I had some business to attend to.” Yuri glanced at Yoona as did Taeyeon. “I have a new job… and a lot to tell you.”

“Oh! That’s great! Now I don’t have to worry about those dirty guys trying to feel you up at the taxi company! Unless… did you get a bartending job again?!” Yuri began to laugh at Taeyeon’s sudden changes of mood. “Yuri! This isn’t funny! Remember last time!”

Yuri stopped laughing and looked at Taeyeon sympathetically. Although Yuri herself has been in danger many times in the past couple of years, it was always Taeyeon she felt sorry for. She knew worrying about her took a big toll on the shorter girl; even with everything going on in her life Taeyeon always managed to take care of Yuri as well.

“Don’t worry. That will never happen again. I know how to defend myself now…” Yuri felt someone staring at her and realized Yoona was still there. “Anyway…”

Taeyeon seemed to notice Yoona again and asked, “Who’s this Yuri?”

“My name is Yoona.” Yoona stuck her hand out and was quickly met by Taeyeon’s.

“Nice to meet you Yoona, my name is Kim Taeyeon” Taeyeon smiled brightly at Yoona.

“Ms. Yoona, this is the owner of the shop and the creator of those pastries you like so much.” Yuri smiled when she saw Yoona face as she stared at Taeyeon in awe.

“…”

“Yuri… is she okay?” Taeyeon asked worriedly as Yoona just kept gaping at her.

“She’s just a big fan of your work Taeng. She loves the pastries here.”

“I’ve never seen her before…”

“o-oh um… I get them delivered.” Yoona said sheepishly as she snapped out of her star struck state.

“Well then, I’m very flattered Yoona!” Taeyeon grabbed Yoona’s hand and pulled her back to the glass display where all the pastries were. “Let’s get back to business. What else would you like Yoona?”

“Oh! Ummm… I want one of those and three of those. My friends and I love these!”

Yuri walked over to the table closest to the counter and sat down. She watched Yoona and Taeyeon interact. They laughed and Yoona would sometimes look embarrassed when Taeyeon would comment about how many bags she’d have to pack.  

At that moment Yuri felt somewhat reassured. Maybe taking care of Yoona wouldn’t be so bad. Maybe this was a reward for carrying someone else’s burden for years. She now had the task of taking care of a girl… no a woman who knew how to take care of herself, for the most part. She would live in a fancy house and be set for the rest of her life.

Yuri was snapped out of her thoughts as she saw Yoona had finished picking treats and was watching Taeyeon pack them. Yuri stood up and walked over to where they were.

“Sorry for the trouble Taeyeon…”

“It’s no problem at all Yoona! It’s not every day you meet someone who has such an interest in your passion!” Taeyeon finished packing the last of the treats and handed over three bags to Yuri. “Yuri will take them to your car Yoona.”

Yuri sighed as she grabbed the bags after being volunteered by Taeyeon. “Sure sure…”

“How much do I owe you Taeyeon?” Yoona began to take out her wallet but was stopped by Taeyeon.

“No no no! These are on the house!”

“But I just took so many treats! It wouldn’t be fair. How much is it?”

“No! Yoona these are on the house. You can repay me by taking care of my Yuri. Next time you clean me out you can pay but these… they’re a gift.”

Yuri rolled her eyes as Yoona watched Taeyeon in admiration once again.

“Thank you so much!” Yoona hugged Taeyeon and waved goodbye.

“I’ll be right back Taeyeon. I’m gonna walk Yoona to her car.”

The two girls left and walked side by side to where Yoona’s driver was parked.

“Thank you for bringing me here Yuri…” Yoona glanced at Yuri as they walked.

“You’re welcome. I guess your mom was right…”

“Huh?”

“It did do us some good to spend a little time together. I mean you’re still a spoiled brat but a… dare I say… lovable brat.”

“Hey!” Yoona shoved Yuri lightly which had the older girl laughing.

“Oh come on! It’s not like you don’t think I’m just some manly street girl with an ugly past that your mom took pity on.”

“I-I never said that..”

“Don’t worry.” Yuri smiled at her. “It’s okay if you thought it. Or maybe you still do… I guess I’ll just have to prove you wrong wont I.”

Yoona smiled back at her, “I guess you will…”
