CHAPTER ONE: First Day

Mysterious, Confused, In Love

RYEOWOOK’S POV

My name is Kim Ryeowook. I was born in Korea but I lived in Canada for half of my life. I’ve lived there since I was eight and spent eight years there. My parents worked as lawyers for some big company in Toronto and decided that we should come back to Korea since their contract with the company is now over.

The sun was shining brightly through my window. The sky was blue, with a few fluffy, white clouds floating by. I could hear some birds cheerily chirping away in some tree outside. I love mornings; they’re very peaceful and soothing.

Today, I’m really excited! I’m starting at a new school today. Not only will I start at new school, but I’ll be in the same school as my awesome cousin, Sungmin-hyung! He’s my cousin and childhood best friend; I really missed him and can’t wait to see him again.

OH MY GOD!  I thought. THE SCHOOL IS HUGE! How the heck am I gonna find my way around here without a GPS? There were many different buildings and all the students wore uniforms. Some people stared at me, and I couldn’t help but blush in embarrassment.  Oh no! This school is maze!! How am I going to find the room for my next class? I pouted. I walked around the school for ten minutes, trying to find room 418: ENGLISH, but all I found were dead ends and the wrong classrooms. I started to panic. I didn’t want to be late for my first class, on my first day. With my schedule clutched in my hand, I desperately tried to look for my classroom again, but with no success. There was only ten minutes left before classes’ start, so I decided to go to the court yard I passed a minute ago, and maybe ask someone for directions. As I was walking, I felt someone tap my shoulder.

“Wookie, is that you?” A familiar voice asked. I turned around to see the bunny-like face of my adorable, beloved hyung.

“Sungmin-hyung!!” I squealed in excitement and attacked him with a bear hug.

“I can’t believe this! You’re finally here!” we both jumped up and down like crazy fangirls, still hugging.

Sungmin-hyung walked me to my first class. As we were chattering away, I couldn’t help but notice the squealing girls as we passed them. I couldn’t figure out what the commotion was about. At one point, he said hello to one of the girls and the girl started squealing like crazy and swooning, calling my cousin ‘Aegyo King’.

“Aegyo King?” I asked skeptically with an eyebrow raised.

“It’s a nickname. Apparently I’m the cutest in the school...” he smiled sheepishly. I smiled warmly at him and pinched his cheeks. He pouted cutely and I chuckled.

Hyung wished me good luck and invited me to eat lunch with him as I entered my English classroom. Almost all the seats were taken, so I figured I was the last one to get in. Immediately, people noticed me when I walked in. Some girls said I was cute, some people whispered and pointed at me “secretly” with their seat mates, some smiled at me, some stared, and some didn’t care. I didn’t know what to do; I’m not used to being the center of attention. So I just blushed furiously, standing there like an idiot. Thankfully, the teacher walked in, interrupting my embarrassment.

“You must be the new student,” the teacher stated. I nodded and bowed in response and she started to introduce me.

“Good morning class! Today, we have a new student from Canada. Could you introduce yourself?” she asked, smiling at me.

“Annyeonghaseyo, I’m Kim Ryeowook, or you can call me Ryeowook, or just Wookie. I hope we’ll all be good friends.” I smiled my biggest smile at the class and bowed 90 degrees to show them respect. As I stood back up, I heard a lot of AWWW! ‘s and EEEEP! SO CUTE! , which made me go tomato red. The teacher directed me to a seat in the back corner of the class by the window.

As I was walking through the aisle of students, I saw him. He had wavy, dark brown hair that reached his collar and fell to his eyes. He had full plump lips with a natural pink tint. He had beautiful, mysterious dark eyes fringed with long lashes. He was very handsome and his body was strongly built. Suddenly, he looked up at me. I didn’t realise that I was staring at him, so when our eyes met for a second, I flushed tomato red for the nth time of the morning. I rushed to my seat, hoping he wouldn’t notice my blush.

I sat in my seat, embarrassed for being caught staring by the handsome, mysterious guy. I was feeling a bit lightheaded and I also felt butterflies in my stomach. Get a hold of yourself Wookie! I thought to myself. Then, my thoughts were interrupted by a tall, muscular guy with dimples on his handsome features.

“Hi, I’m Siwon,” he greeted me with a smile and offered his big hand for me to shake.

“I’m Ryeowook. Nice to meet you Siwon sunbae,” I smiled back nervously and shook his big hand.

“Yah! Don’t be so formal! Just call me hyung,” I nodded back in response and grinned at him, happy that we got along so quickly.

I was in an advanced English class, considering that I grew up in Canada, I obviously wouldn’t have any trouble in this class. Siwon and I talked a lot during the lesson. I learned that he’s a devout Christian and that he’s the president of the student council in the school. We also had history class together, and again I was in an advanced class. I loved history; it was my favourite academic subject. Siwon and I walked to our history class, with the handsome, mysterious guy trailing behind us, much to my notice. We chatted away happily in history for a bit, but soon I was lost in the history book, fascinated by its contents. When class ended, Siwon invited to eat lunch with him and his friends but I refused.

“Are you sure? I wouldn’t want my dongsaeng eat lunch alone,” he said teasingly, but was obviously concerned.

“Don’t worry, I wouldn’t be alone. I’ll be eating with Sungmin-hyung,” I assured him. He brightened at my reassurance. He bid me farewell and walked away with the handsome, mysterious guy. Are they close? Maybe I should ‘ve went with them so I could talk to him…-WAIT! What am I thinking?!

*LUNCH*

“WOOKIE!” I turned around and saw Sungmin-hyung frantically waving at me from a table with other people. I smiled widely and walked to his table. He ran to me greeted me with a big hug.

“Guys, this is my dear, super cute cousin Ryeowook,” he grinned from ear to ear.

“Annyeonghaseyo sunbaes! I’m Ryeowook, but you can call me Wookie if you want though,” I bowed and smiled timidly.

“Hi Wookie, I’m Leeteuk. I’m the umma of the group, so call me hyung or umma if you’d like,” he smiled kindly at me.

“Hey, I’m Heechul. Call me Heechul-hyung, Chullie or Cinderella. I’m the diva of the group,” he smiled confidently and ruffled my hair playfully. He kind of looked like a girl, but still very good looking. He had long hair and cat-like eyes.

“Hey, I’m Hyukjae, but call me Eunhyuk-hyung. I’m the dancing machine along with this fishy, Donghae,” he smiled a gummy smile that I thought was really cute. He reminded me of monkeys a bit. The one I assumed as Donghae blushed. Hmm…Wonder what that’s about?

“I’m Donghae, as this monkey just said. I’m the group’s dancing machine as well,” he said.

“Nice to meet you all,” I said, half hiding behind Sungmin-hyung, smiling shyly at them all.

“AWWWW!! HE’S SO CUTE! I guess being adorable runs in the family, right Sungmin?” Leeteuk laughed, pinching my cheeks and making me giggle and blush at his compliment.

So far, today has been great. I’ve immediately made friends and people have been nice to me. As I was eating my lunch with my new friends, I caught the eye of the handsome mysterious guy (my current nickname for him because I didn’t know his name), and I looked away blushing. I saw that he was sitting with his group of friends, along with Siwon. I decided to ask Leeteuk-hyung about them because he was the closest one to me.

“Leeteuk-hyung?”

“Yeah?”

“Who are those guys?”

“Oh, those are the school idols. The one with the glasses is Kibum. The one with the short spiky hair is Hankyung. The big, tough one is Kangin. The really tall, muscular one with dimples is Siwon. The one with the long-ish black hair is Yesung. The one beside him with dark brown hair is his brother, Kyuhyun.” He explained. I nodded then resumed with eating my lunch.

“Why did you ask?” he asked, curious.

“W-well, everyone is staring at them, the girls especially.” I stammered. Well, it’s true; everyone is staring at them, although that wasn’t the reason why I asked. I just wanted to know the name of the handsome, mysterious guy. Thinking about him made me blush, so I looked down before anyone would notice. But much to my dismay, I was too late.

“Wookie-ah, why are you all red?” Leeteuk-hyung asked.

“N-nothing, h-hyung,” I stuttered, my face becoming a tomato.

“Eh? What’s going on?” Donghae-hyung asked, looking at us curiously.

“He asked me about the school’s idols and then he blushed,” Leeteuk-hyung teased.

“N-no, I-I w-wasn’t!” I protested weakly. I’m a terrible liar. They laughed at my weak attempt at denial and I went tomato red once again.

“Wookie-ah, look at you! You’re like a tomato! So, who is it then?” Heechul-hyung asked, leaning closer to me.

“W-what?” I asked, trying to act innocent and clueless at his obvious question.

“Who do you have a crush on?” he pressed. I was about to deny it again but thankfully, the bell rang, signalling that lunch is over. I quickly gathered my things and ran to my next class as soon as possible.

“See you guys later!” I yelled back at them.

My next class was math. EW. I was never good at it, and I don’t think that I’ll get better at it anytime soon. So I’m not in an advanced math class unlike English and history. As I walked in the room, my heart stopped. It was him, Kyuhyun. He was here. The teacher told me to sit in the only seat available, the one next to Kyuhyun. My heart is beating like a jackhammer in my chest. I sat in my seat, blushing furiously for the nth time of the day. Why do I feel like this? What’s going on with me?

Chapter 19: Sorry, but when I read "They're back, hyung", I could only hear in my head q
was "SHINee's back...SHINee's back...SHINee's back... back... back... back...back..." from the beginning of "Sherlock". That took away a little bit of the gravitas of the moment... (^_^*)
