Funeral

Halmeoni

Halmeoni's funeral. Turns out that Hoya's side of the family was quite rich, in both money and number of family members. The funeral was held in a cathedral and included over one hundred attendees, many of which I had never seen or heard of before in my life. Where had all these people been for halmeoni's last two years of her life? They were no where to be seen, yet here they were, crying their eyes out at someone they hadn't even set eyes on recently. Did they really care? I was beginning to doubt any kind of affection these days after what happened with Hoya. You put so much in but only get so little out. All around me, people were sniffling. I had spent every waking moment at her bedside and every waling moment caring for her when she was sick, yet I wasn't crying. Why? Because I had just spotted Hoya and Yoona. My heart wrentched uncomfortably.

So they were together, I thought. Even though I knew idols weren't allowed to date, especially if they were newly debuted like Infinite. Yet here they were infront of me, holding hands and and leaning on each other. Hoya was wiping tears from Yoona's eyes, and I couldn't help but clench my fists and take deep breaths.

I my heel and walked away, only to bump into something made of extremely hard.....muscle.
"Whoa, sorry," the person said, awkwardly, chuckling and pulling me away from them. Then his tone changed to one of incredible surprise and shock. "Hana?"
I squinted. Who was this man? Why did he look so familiar? Then I remembered.
"Woohyun!? What are you doing here?!"
He was looking very sharp in a black suit and tie. The reason I hadn't recognised him was because he had spiked up his fringe and lost a bit of weight since I had last seen him at ice skating with halmeoni. I bit my lip, finally feeling the tears coming. Who was I kidding? I was here at the funeral to say goodbye and pay my final respects for halmeoni. I wouldn't let some idiot, who, after telling me about halmeoni in the hospital that time, just dropped me home in silence and never spoke to me again, ruin that. Along with his girlfriend who just happened to be here too even though I knew halmeoni didn't like her.

"I knew halmeoni too, you know," he said, a little hurt. "I'm her favourite from Infinite!"
I cracked half a broken smile. "Wouldn't get favourite from Infinite be her grandson?"
Woohyun chuckled, avoiding the question. "I know that he's your favourite."
My eyes widened. He still remembered. And I remembered. I remembered that i had already confessed to a 'no reaction' from Hoya.
I told Woohyun this.
"Aw, you serious?" He pulled a face. "Hoya doesn't talk about his feelings much. You never know," he added, winking.
I frowned. "Never know what? I know I know. So stop trying to confuse me," I said in a defensive voice, the wounds of this still not healed.
"Okay, okay, whatever you say." He held up his hands defensively. "I'm going to find Sunggyu. See you around, Hana."

I looked around for a place to sit just as the priest said it would commence in ten minutes. Then I realized that I knew nobody here, nobody here at all except Hoya. But he was sitting at the very front, where family members sat. And the seats behind them were full, and the ones behind them were full.....I followed the line of chairs and saw that the only row of chairs free were the ones at the very back. Was this a fitting spot for the person who had been there for halmeoni during her hardest times? I didn't know. But all I did know was that I could hardly see anything from back there at all, even if I squinted or stood up.

All of a sudden, I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"Sunggyu can't make it. He says to tell you sorry."
Woohyun slid into the chair next to me. I shrugged. "Why sorry to me? I'm not halmeoni's family."
Woohyun looked at me like I was mad. "Not family? Hana, if any of these people can call themselves her family and they never once visited her once in the hospital, and you were there everyday, then what does that make you? Halmeoni's soul mate, or husband? Secret lover? Eternal partners?"
He smiled toothily at me and chuckled at his own joke. He looked so dorky then and there with his eyes all crinkled that I couldn't help but smile along. It was the first time I had smiled since that fatal day in the hospital and it felt really good. Really, really good.

Before I could say anything else, though, the priest climbed fragily on the podium and began his speech on the cycle of life and death.
After about thirty minutes into his speech I felt a heavy weight on my shoulder. Woohyun's head was drooping onto me and causing my shoulder to sag.
"Ouch, Woohyun," I whispered quietly. "You're heavy! Get off!"
He mumbled something incoherent and proceeded to snore quietly. Luckily the microphones were loud and there was a speaker right near where we were sitting or else the whole funeral would be full of Woohyun's snores.

The priest took an hour and a half to finish his little 'introductory' speech, at which after everyone took a little five minute toilet break before the second commencement.
I saw Hoya and Yoona making their way toward us down the middle aisle. I tried to move quickly out of my seat and into the opposite direction to try and avoid any awkward hi's or hello's before he saw me but Woohyun's head felt like a tonne of bricks on my shoulder and I couldn't move.

Before I knew it, Hoya was approaching us. And he was not looking very happy. I smiled weakly and started to greet him, but he cut me off, yanking at my wrist and pulling me up from my chair and out into the courtyard.
I looked back and saw that Woohyun had jolted awake and looking at his band mate in a confused and dazed way, and Yoona was also looking confused. As was I.

"Hoya, what are you doing?"
He didn't answer me but just kept pulling.
"STOP IT," I screamed. "Let go, Hoya, it hurts!"
And with that, he dropped my wrist. I rubbed it painfully and saw that it had gone all red.
"What is wrong with you?" I asked him angrily. "Why did you pull me here? The second part is about to start!"
He let out a heavy sigh of frustration and ran his fingers through his hair. Were his fingers....shaking?
"Hana, I - "
"Hana what?" I snapped grumpily.
He sighed. "Why are you doing that with Woohyun? I could tell you things about him that would make your hair curl."
I laughed bitterly. "Why does it matter to you what I'm doing, huh?"
I looked him. He was stumped for words and just gaped at me stupidly.
"I.....um, well I - "
"Don't have an answer?" I glared at him. "What a mental person. I'm going back in, Lee Howon."
I turned to leave but he reached out and grabbed my wrist again.
"What," I said through gritted teeth. "Do you want?"
He looked at me, scared. I waited for him to speak, feeling slightly confused but nevertheless angry as hell.
"Just....don't hang out with Woohyun anymore, okay?"
"Who do you think you are? Can you even tell me who to hang out with and not? About your own band mate?" I looked at him disgustedly.
"Mental," I muttered just loudly enough to hear before turning on my heels and walking away. I could hear him yell out from frustration.

I stormed back inside. I wasn't sure where this....y side of me was coming from. I guess just from all that pent up rage and emotion I felt these few years. I was letting them all out, and boy did it feel good.

I walked back into the cathedral where Woohyun was waiting nervously. He was asking me worriedly about what happened but I just kept replaying it over and over in my mind. Was Hoya......jealous?
