Epilogue

The weight of a decision

Honestly I'm not 100% sure whether this is an epilogue or me being indulgent with my characters, but I hope you guys are happy with it anyway :)

Thank you to everyone who's read this story, it really means a lot that you've enjoyed it as much as I've enjoyed writing it :)

Seunghyun woke up slowly. As he came to consciousness, he realised just how badly his head hurt, but he had no idea why. He let out a small groan, moving his numb limbs stiffly. What had he been doing to hurt so badly? It made no sense. The last thing he remembered was... was.... he wasn't sure.

The pain in his head began to recede, but he still couldn't remember much. He reached over to his bedside table to pick up his phone, since that was where he always left it, but it wasn't there. Leaning up on his forearms, he looked around his room for his phone - it would be so bad if he'd somehow lost it during the time he couldn't remember.

It was sat on the floor, half under some dirty washing that Seunghyun definitely didn't remember leaving there. He gingerly crawled along his bed in an attempt to reach his phone without having to leave the comfort of his bed. He leaned down; it was within arms reach, he was sure of it... Just as he felt himself slipping too far, he managed to grab his phone and push himself back onto the bed in one frantic movement.

He lay back down in bed - that was enough movement for today. Curling up into a ball, he decided to not do anything just yet. His headache was coming back, and it was making it even more difficult than before to think about anything.

After a short snooze, he woke up again. He was slightly less pained now, but he still felt weirdly memory-less. Sighing, he went to unlock his phone. Maybe some mindless scrolling would help him in some way.

It was only when he went to check his messages that he realised something was really, really off.

There were over a hundred unread messages from many people spanning a month, and it looked like most of them were angry. Seunghyun definitely didn't remember leaving so many messages, so where had they come from?

He scrolled through them, wondering where on earth to start. Most of the message previews he could see seemed angry that he hadn't replied, but how could he give a reason or excuse when he had no idea this was going on? He tried to think back to the last time he used his phone - was this there and he hadn't seen it? His memory was still hazy, but he was sure that he'd remember something like this. Then he came to the read messages, and right there was the last message he remembered sending. It was dated may the 13th, which was a date that rang a bell.

Absent-mindedly he pulled down the taskbar on his phone to check the date. 23 June 2015. Wait, what?

Before he could really start to panic, Jonghyun poked his head round the door. Seunghyun tried to control his breathing and not show how much he was freaking out. After all, how could he explain something like this to anyone?

Even through his terror at losing so much time, Seunghyun was able to notice how tentative Jonghyun was being. Why would he possibly be? They'd known each other for ten years and he'd not been like this in a long while. Unless... unless something had happened in the time he couldn't remember? He was gingerly sat on the edge of Seunghyun's bed, and he didn't look totally comfortable there.

"How are you feeling... Seunghyun?" Jonghyun asked. The question seemed oddly phrased, almost like he was questioning whether he would respond to Seunghyun, not asking how he was.

"I... I'm okay. I've had a bit of a headache, but I'm not too bad now. Why... should I not feel well?" He laughed weakly.

Jonghyun laughed too, but his seemed more relieved than anything else. "No, no, I'm just glad you're... awake." He looked hesitant. "Are you sure that's all that's wrong with you? Nothing else?" He really did seem to think that there should be something wrong with Seunghyun.

For a split second, Seunghyun considered telling Jonghyun about the fact that he couldn't remember anything from the past month. Maybe he could help? "Well..." he began. Jonghyun looked intrigued, like he was expecting something like this. Seunghyun changed his mind, and shook his head - he didn't know what was going on, he probably shouldn't incriminate himself. "It's nothing, I - I just had a weird dream, that's all."

Jonghyun seemed disappointed, but he didn't ask him any more about it. Instead, he simply patted Seunghyun's shoulder, and got up to leave. "If you're feeling unwell I'll leave you to rest. I'll talk to you later, okay?" He said. And with that, he left.

Seunghyun felt even more confused than before. What kind of a conversation had he actually just had? What had Jonghyun been expecting? It must have been something to do with what had happened in the time he couldn't remember, but for that exact reason he couldn't even be totally sure.

He lay back in bed. Maybe if he just tried to not think about it, it wouldn't be real. It didn't seem like much had changed here, so maybe he really didn't have anything to worry about? These thoughts continued to circle around his head without any real solutions occurring to him.

It was only the small sound of someone clearing their throat that brought him back to the real world. When he saw who it was, he sat straight up and tried to instinctively flatten his bed hair a bit, before realising that he was still in his pyjamas and he probably wasn't going to look good no matter what he did.

"Hi Tae," he breathed. Taemin giggled.

"You've not called me that in a while," he said, smiling. The words could have sounded hurt, but the smile and the happy tone made it pretty clear that he wasn't upset. Seunghyun was fairly confident that he knew Taemin well enough to know that sort of thing.

"Have I not? I'm sorry," he replied. He definitely didn't remember that, but he wasn't going to admit that, not when Tae seemed happy.

Taemin giggled again. Seunghyun couldn't help but think that it was the cutest thing, but he tried not to show it. He couldn't, not when they hadn't defined what they... were. "You should be sorry, I ...I like it when you call me it." Seunghyun couldn't tell whether Taemin was blushing slightly or not, but it certainly looked like it.

"Jonghyun said that you were feeling a bit unwell... what's up?" Taemin asked.

Jonghyun had told the others about him being ill already? Why was he so bothered by him having a headache? "Oh, it's nothing, I just have a bit of a headache, that's all. You don't need to worry about me, Tae." He gave another smile as extra reassurance.

"Okay, if you're sure." Taemin smiled back, and Seunghyun's heart fluttered a little.

For once, Seunghyun decided to be confident. Most of the time he and Tae had done anything about this, about them, he'd not been confident enough to do anything about it. Sometimes he wondered why Taemin even liked him, but for a while he had been beginning to think that if he didn't hurry up, something might happen and they might never really be together. And he really didn't want to think about what that might be like.

"Tae..." He began. "Do you remember our day at the beach?"

Taemin's eyes widened. He looked shocked, and that was definitely not the response Seunghyun had been going for. "The beach?" He whispered. "You... you remember?"

Seunghyun frowned. "Why wouldn't I? That.... that was a great day, how could I...?"

"But you didn't remember before..." Taemin shook his head. "Never mind. Of course I remember our day at the beach. Why?"

Seunghyun was still confused - the day at the beach was pretty much seared into his mind, he could never forget something like that. He definitely had never forgotten about it - he was the one who had just brought it up now. "No, no, let's go back to whatever you said. Why would I have forgotten about the day at the beach?"

Now it was Taemin's turn to look ultra confused. "Then why didn't you know what I was talking about two weeks ago? Why did you make me go through all of that?"

Seunghyun didn't know what to do. He had no idea what Taemin was talking about, he couldn't make up a reason for him acting in the way that Taemin remembered. He sighed. "You were right Tae. Having a headache isn't all that's been bothering me this morning. I can't..."

"Can't what?"

"Can't remember anything that's happened for the last month."

Taemin tilted his head to the side. "Nothing at all? That's weird, because you've been acting weirdly for about a month."

"I have? I... I don't remember it." He laughed. At least Tae seemed to believe him. He shrugged. "There's nothing we can do about it, I guess." Taemin nodded in agreement, and Seunghyun realised that he'd have to get up his bravery again to bring up the day at the beach.

He took one of Taemin's hands in his. "Tae... do you remember what we said, on that day? That it would happen when the time was right?" Taemin's stiffened, and nodded. "Well... I don't know about you, but today seems like the right kind of day, don't you think?"

Taemin gasped. Before Seunghyun could begin to worry about what that could mean, he found himself being pinned to the mattress by a giggling mass of limbs that was Taemin. "Is that a yes then?" Seunghyun had to ask, to check. This seemed like a pretty positive reaction though.

Through another fit of giggles, Taemin managed to get out a 'yes'. Seunghyun didn't even bother trying to hide his smile - after all, the only other person here was Taemin, and Seunghyun was fairly certain that he was just as happy about what had just happened.

For a while they simply hugged on the bed. This wasn't really anything unusual for them, they tended to be affectionate with each other anyway, but it was more the knowledge that this was his boyfriend now that made it extra special.

He had a boyfriend. The man who had caught his eye all those years ago, whom he never would have thought would be friends with him, never mind be attracted to him, was his boyfriend now. Seunghyun couldn't stop the light feeling in his chest that made him want to hug Taemin closer to him - and the best part was that after having that feeling for so many years, he could finally go through with it. And so he did. Taemin laughed, and hugged him back, before pulling away a bit so that they could look at each other.

For a solid minute they just lay next to each other, taking it all in. Seunghyun couldn't stop staring at Tae's face - he'd seen it millions of times before, but... he still couldn't quite believe that all of this was real. Reaching his hand out, he Taemin's cheek gently - partially because he wanted to feel Taemin's soft skin under his fingertips, but also to make sure that he wasn't dreaming, because goodness knows how many times he'd had dreams like this.

Without thinking about it, Seunghyun leaned over and kissed Taemin's cheek. He noticed that Tae blushed when he did it, and couldn't help but make a small sound in the back of his throat at the sight of it.

Taemin's blush deepened, and Seunghyun was just wondering why, when Taemin darted forward and brushed his lips across Seunghyun's. It was so quick that it was almost over before it began. Despite its brevity, it left a tingling sensation where his lips had been, and made the smile that had already been on his face grow.

Taemin proceeded to hide his blushing face in Seunghyun's chest, which Seunghyun couldn't help but laugh at as he pulled Taemin closer. He nuzzled the top of Taemin's head lightly, and just basked in contentment.

They could have no way of knowing what the future would bring them, and there was still the slight worry of his missing memories, but they didn't need to worry about that just yet. For now, they were together and happy. Nothing else in the world mattered.

Chapter 31: Wow it's so strange reading about other Seunghyun than Seungri, but I kind of like it. It brings insight to what happened to Seunghyun that whole time during the universe swap. Jonghyun should known soon that his Seunghyun is back.

I'm sad that the end has come, but thank you so much for writing such a wonderful story. It was quite a journey, and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Chapter 31: So does that mean Seunghyun didn't have the same experience as Seungri had??? Omg

I feel so giddy. Reading about Seunghyun is a bit weird, but then I remember that he isn't Seungri and it becomes refreshing. I have a feeling Jonghyun would know eventually though.

It's been amazing. I mean, just the concept and the possibilities really brought me in. Thank you so much! I'm really glad that I perused the Seungri tag one day and found this. Thank you! :)
