Chapter 26

The weight of a decision

Hello there and welcome to the accidentally-slightly-longer-than-usual anniversary chapter!
Today marks one year since I posted the first chapter of this, and I want to thank all of you for taking the time to read this story, it means a lot. Even more thanks goes to those of you who have subscribed, and commented, and upvoted, but even if you've done none of those things, know that I still appreciate the fact that someone other than just me has enjoyed this story :)
Anyway, on with the chapter :)

Seungri rolled over in his bed. He had a slight headache, but the bed was warm and comfortable, and he didn't want to get out of it if he didn't have to. He couldn't remember whether he had anything to do today, but still in the fog of sleep, he didn't care.

The buzzing of his phone made him stir a little, but he made no move to get out of his bed. The third time it buzzed he stuck a hand out of the covers in an attempt to pick his phone up without having to actually get out of his bed. He eventually managed to find it, and he pulled it quickly into the warmth that was his bed.

Looking at the too-bright screen with bleary eyes, Seungri swiped through to the messages he'd been sent. It was the group chat for Bigbang, and without thinking about it, he slowly replied to Daesung's suggestion of going out and doing something. He would be up for it, sure - but in a few hours, once he'd woken up. The others hadn't even seen the messages yet, so chances are he'd have a few more hours to relax before needing to get up or get dressed.

Closing his eyes, he began to relax some more. There was something that he was sure the texting had reminded him about, but he couldn't remember it as he drifted off.

His eyes shot open. Daesung texting him? Through the Bigbang chat? He grabbed his phone again, and checked the date. It was the start of June. He was back. He rubbed his eyes tiredly. He wasn't even shocked any more, it would take more than a mere travelling between universes to faze him.

Stretching, he decided to get up after all. He was still tired, but he wasn't sleepy any more, not now that he'd realised what was going on. He slowly went through the motions of getting up and getting breakfast, still not feeling fully awake. It took him remembering the previous night to make him realise why he was feeling so groggy still - he hadn't got that drunk, but he had been up late spending time with his SHINee members.

Somehow a few hours passed with him mooching around, not doing anything in particular. They continued to talk on the group chat, deciding what they were going to do. Eventually Seungri figured he should get dressed and get ready to go out, and he wandered back to his bedroom. Looking in his wardrobe, he could see that the clothes he'd worn the last night he was here, the ones that had been transported with him to the other world, were missing. Did that mean they were still there?

Seungri shrugged and got on with getting dressed - he didn't have time to think about it too deeply right now. As he was finishing up, his phone began to buzz with messages.

SEUNGRI

SEUNGRI

WE'RE HERE

COME DOOOOOOWN

SEUNGRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

Seungri smiled at his phone. It was good to know that his friends were excited to see him, even though they saw each other often. He quickly grabbed his face mask and sunglasses - if he was going out somewhere, he was going to try to avoid being spotted as much as he could.

He made his way down as quickly as he could, and left the building. Daesung and Youngbae were stood a little way down the street, talking quietly with each other and trying not to attract attention to themselves. Fighting down the urge to wave and get their attention, he walked up to them as slowly as he could make himself go.

"Hey guys," he stage-whispered when he got to them. Both of them jumped, and Seungri couldn't help but laugh loudly at it. Daesung glared at him for attracting attention, but Seungri couldn't find it in himself to regret it. "So what are we doing?" He asked in a more normal tone.

Youngbae shrugged. "Well Jiyong and Seunghyun are going to join us at some point, but for now it's just us." He shared a look with Daesung. "We were thinking of just doing some shopping for now, to kill some time. Is that alright?"

Seungri nodded. "Then let's go!" He said cheerfully.

Daesung laughed at him, and they set off walking.

**

Seungri placed the hat on his head. It was big, and poofy, with lots of lace and netting, and he had no intentions of buying it, but it did look ridiculous. Daesung and Youngbae were bent over laughing as Seungri began to parade around with it on, admiring himself in the mirror nearby.

Youngbae managed to straighten himself enough to take out his phone to take a picture - which Seungri posed for, of course. He put a hand on his hip, and pulled out his ability as an idol to pose for pictures like a model.

He was beginning to get into it like it was a photoshoot, but he froze as he saw a shop assistant making their way towards him - there was no way he could let anyone else see this. He whipped the hat off his head, and hid it behind his back, hoping none of the decorative flowers on the top would flop over and show themselves.

"Can I help you?" The shop assistant asked, a generic smile on their face.

Seungri gulped. "No, we're fine, we're just... browsing," he replied. From behind him he could hear Youngbae and Daesung snorting with laughter, and the shop assistant frowned slightly, clearly not understanding why they were laughing. Seungri began to get nervous as he felt the material of the hat begin to slide and slump - probably due to being very top heavy - and he tried to flick it the other way to compensate and get it to stay still. It began to slide the other way, and - oh no, Seungri was sure that some of it was sticking out from behind him.

"Well if you need any help, just let me know," the assistant said, smiling again. Seungri smiled back, and nodded, and fortunately they walked away. As soon as they were out of earshot, the three of them burst out laughing.

Just as they were catching their breath, Youngbae's phone buzzed. He checked it, and began to giggle. "I sent Jiyong some of the pictures of you in the hat and now he says he's outside. Let's go meet him!"

They traipsed out of the shop, waving goodbye to the poor shop assistant. He looked faintly bemused, but waved back anyway.

Once they were out, they began to look around for Jiyong. They walked down the street, wondering where he could be, when Seungri spotted him on the other side of the road, leaning against a building and generally looking cool. The three of them made their way over to him, and naturally Youngbae was the first to hug him.

"What even was that hat Seungri?" Jiyong asked, laughing, once he was done with his hug with Youngbae.

Seungri shrugged. "Just a cool hat I found, nothing big." This prompted another round of giggles from Daesung and Youngbae.

"Seungri!" He jumped as he heard his name called from behind him. He internally cringed, hoping that this wasn't the start of being recognised by fans - he had nothing against them, but in a public place like this? It'd be impossible to get away from.

An arm was draped over his shoulder, making his head whip around to see who it was. It was Jonghyun, grinning next to him. Seungri couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief that he wasn't about to be mobbed by fans, and smiled back at Jonghyun instinctively. He wasn't even sure whether he meant it to be a smile for this Jonghyun, or the one in the other world for sticking by him through the others ignoring him.

Jiyong, Youngbae and Daesung wandered off a little as Taemin and Kibum joined Seungri. He was slightly grateful, as he wasn't sure how this was going to go, going by the last time he'd seen them.

"How have you been hyung?" Taemin asked. Seungri was slightly surprised that it was Taemin who chose to talk to him, given how the last time had gone, but he wasn't complaining.

"I've been good thanks, I've been shopping today. You should have seen the hat I tried on, it was ridiculous!" Taemin and Jonghyun laughed. Even Kibum seemed amused. "What about you guys?" Seungri asked.

Jonghyun and Kibum shared a look. "Yeah, I've been alright," Jonghyun replied. "I've got this great new book on parallel universes that you've been missing out on..." he teased.

Seungri laughed. "I think I've changed my mind again, you'll have to show me it sometime." He could see Kibum and Taemin rolling their eyes in the background, but he couldn't bring himself to care about being teased about parallel universes this time. "What about you, Taemin? How are you?"

Taemin shrugged. "I'm doing alright thanks."

"I'm glad to hear it." Seungri smiled genuinely. Despite Taemin being a bit cold the last time they'd met, he was feeling good from making up with them in the other world.

"So you seem happy to see us today. What's brought that on?" Kibum asked.

Seungri froze. "Um, I'm just in a better mood today I guess." He shrugged. "Sorry?"

Kibum shrugged. "That's good then. I'm glad you've had fun today, it sounds like you've had a good time. I -"

Kibum was cut off by a small scream from behind them. Seungri turned around to see a young girl, maybe twelve or so, stood there staring at him. "Hi," Seungri began. From the way she was staring, Seungri was sure that she'd recognised them, there was no question about it.

"Can I have an autograph oppa?!" The girl burst out, staring directly at him.

Seungri smiled. "Of course you can. Do you have..." He didn't need to ask for paper and a pen any more - they'd both just been shoved into his hands. He began to sign the paper, his concentration fluctuating as the girl continued to talk to him.

"You're even more handsome in person oppa. I've been to so many of your concerts, I'm really your biggest fan. Like, everyone else just shouldn't bother, that's how big a fan I am." She tilted her head to the side. "What kind of girls do you like oppa? Oppa?"

Seungri had finished signing the paper, but he didn't know what to do. How could he answer that question? "Uh, I don't... I like... why do you ask?"

"Because I love you oppa! Do you have a girlfriend?" Seungri's eyes couldn't help but flick over to Taemin at that. For a moment he'd forgotten which universe he was in, forgot that he didn't have to worry about Taemin possibly being jealous here. Taemin looked confused, like he couldn't understand why Seungri was looking at him at that question.

Seungri quickly looked away. "I don't have a girlfriend, no." He handed her the paper and her pen back. "It was nice to meet you." He firmly finished the conversation. The girl didn't seem too upset at having the interaction cut short; she smiled at him and walked away happily.

Jonghyun began to laugh as the girl walked away, and Seungri put his head in his hands - fans who thought they had a chance were always the most difficult to deal with.

"Anyway, I think we'd better get going, right?" Kibum spoke up. Jonghyun and Taemin nodded. "It was nice seeing you again Seungri."

"Yeah, it was good to see you," Jonghyun agreed. Seungri and the others awkwardly clapped each other on the back, and went on their way.

Seungri figured that he should go back to the others now, since he'd been left on his own. He ambled over, wondering what they'd do next.

**

Picking a cafe at random, they walked in. They were seated, but then Jiyong stood up again. "I'd better call Seunghyun hyung and tell him to come here," he told them. They nodded.

"We'll wait for him to get here to order," Youngbae agreed. "Be quick though!" Jiyong laughed, and walked out to the front of the cafe to make his call.

"So what did you talk to Jonghyun about, huh?" Youngbae asked Seungri.

"Not much, just catching up, you know, normal stuff. Jonghyun was asking about parallel universes again, and you know how I'm really into that now. We didn't even get the chance to talk that much because we got... um, interrupted by a fan, and you know how they are." Seungri avoided talking about the details, hoping that they didn't already know that it'd been embarassing. From the look that Youngbae and Daesung shared, he wasn't very hopeful. "So yeah, it wasn't really -"

Seungri's explanation was interrupted by Jiyong coming back to the table. "Seunghyun should be here in ten minutes!" He announced. Youngbae cheered slightly.

Most of the conversation for the next while was based on Seungri being teased for his friendship with SHINee. They seemed to have picked up that this wasn't just a quick, passing interest; that this was a friendship that Seungri wanted to really keep.

Around fifteen minutes later, Seunghyun strolled into the cafe. "Late as always, TOP hyung," Jiyong teased.

Seunghyun grinned. "You know it," he replied with a wink. He went to sit down, and Jiyong shuffled his chair closer to Seungri's.

"Today's been a good day," Jiyong remarked, "and I'm glad you're on good terms with SHINee now, Seungri."

Seungri smiled. "Thanks hyung."

"What are we getting? I'm starving," Seunghyun interrupted, breaking the sentimental mood. Seungri laughed, and they picked up the menus. They ordered, and settled to wait for the food to arrive. Jiyong was showing Seunghyun the pictures that Youngbae had taken of Seungri in the hat, and Daesung scooted round to talk to him.

"So how was meeting that fan? She seemed pretty... excited to see you," Daesung said with a smirk.

"You guys saw that?" Seungri blushed slightly, he was hoping that they hadn't.

Daesung nodded. "Seungri oppa!" He said in a high pitched voice. "You're so handsome oppa! Sign this for me oppa, I love you!" Seungri began to laugh, but his amusement was struck short when a thought wormed its way into the back of his mind. Is this what the other Seungri would want? Imagine his reaction to being flirted at by Daesung.

He shook his head slightly. "You guys are too much," he said lightly, hoping Daesung wouldn't ask about his momentary loss of focus. He didn't seem to, and the conversation moved away from Seungri's 'biggest fan'.

"So what have you been doing today Seunghyun hyung? Why are you late?" Seungri deflected the attention away from himself.

Seunghyun shrugged. "Not that much really. I just didn't feel like going out until now. And you know me, shopping isn't really my thing."

"Really? Surely you must have been doing something, it's -" Seungri checked his watch " - nearly two in the afternoon!"

Seunghyun blushed slightly. "I wasn't doing anything, I - I was just watching tv, that's all."

Daesung raised his eyebrows. "But you hardly ever watch tv, Seunghyun hyung."

"Well I was today, okay? It happens sometimes." Seunghyun really didn't seem to want to talk, and fortunately for him they were distracted by the food arriving. There was minimal talking while they ate; it would seem that they were all hungry.

Once Seungri was done eating, he sat back and surveyed the table. He was nicely full, and he'd had a very good day. Everyone, including him, was happy.

Chapter 31: Wow it's so strange reading about other Seunghyun than Seungri, but I kind of like it. It brings insight to what happened to Seunghyun that whole time during the universe swap. Jonghyun should known soon that his Seunghyun is back.

I'm sad that the end has come, but thank you so much for writing such a wonderful story. It was quite a journey, and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Chapter 31: So does that mean Seunghyun didn't have the same experience as Seungri had??? Omg

I feel so giddy. Reading about Seunghyun is a bit weird, but then I remember that he isn't Seungri and it becomes refreshing. I have a feeling Jonghyun would know eventually though.

It's been amazing. I mean, just the concept and the possibilities really brought me in. Thank you so much! I'm really glad that I perused the Seungri tag one day and found this. Thank you! :)
