Chapter 28

The weight of a decision

Well it only took me a month to update - sorry about that, this chapter gave me a lot of trouble writing until today, whereupon I wrote about half of what's here. I'm tired and it's late, I had an exam today - one of the reasons I wasn't able to dedicate more time to writing recently. However, in a week I'll be done with uni for this year and I should be able to write much more over the summer. Anyway, you don't care about my exams, you want the next chapter. Here you go:

Seungri opened his eyes. He was stood in a field full of flowers, watching them sway in the breeze. For a minute he simply stood and watched hypnotized by their fluttering. He smiled, feeling peaceful in the sun.

Soon though, he felt a shadow block out the sun, and he frowned. He hadn't been out in the countryside before now, had he? He couldn't remember, the memories were foggy. He turned around. A dark hooded figure stood there, motionless and contrasting with the moving flowers around them. "Who are you?" he asked. He'd never seen anyone like this before, he was sure. Or had he? He couldn't seem to think very deeply.

"Who I am doesn't matter." The figure had a deep voice, which for some reason Seungri was surprised by. "Do you know why you are here?"

Unable to truly concentrate, Seungri's eyes wandered back to the colourful flowers at his feet before going back to the figure. "Why I'm here? No... I like it though. Do you live here?"

The figure chuckled. "No. I'm here to - to - would you look at me?" Seungri's head snapped back up to look at the figure - he hadn't even realised that his attention had wandered away to the flowers again. "I am the one who sent you to the parallel universe."

"The what?" Seungri asked. He was sure that sounded familiar, but he couldn't quite think why parallel universes would be important.

"You've spent several months travelling back and forth to a universe parallel to your own. Surely you remember this?" Seungri frowned. He had, hadn't he? He could remember now. Things had been different there - but he couldn't remember in which ways.

"Why are you telling me this?" Seungri managed to ask. He might not be able to remember much right now, but he could be confused about it.

"This will be your last visit. Two days, make the most of your time." The figure began to walk away, and Seungri was more confused than he had been to begin with. He tried to run after it, but found that no matter how hard he tried to run, he couldn't move fast at all. Eventually he tripped, and then -

Seungri sat bolt upright in bed. He couldn't remember much of his dream, like always, but what he could remember seemed pretty vivid, more real than usual. ...will be your last visit... two days... floated through his mind. It could have just been a figment of his imagination, but so could this whole world, so why shouldn't he believe it?

Well. Only two days. He should probably make the most of it, right? But what to do? He'd been away for nearly two weeks - what were they meant to be doing that day?

He quickly got dressed, and went out into the hall, hoping that some of the others would be around. He absolutely had to spend time with them before he wouldn't be able to any more.

Fortunately, he could hear voices coming from the living room. He walked through to see all five of them sat around - clearly he was the one who'd woken up late. They all turned to look at him, and he sidled along to the kitchen to get some breakfast.

"Hey there, sleepyhead," he heard Jinki call out behind him. "You're lucky we're not scheduled to do anything today." Seungri's only response was a grunt.

He sleepily made himself a bowl of cereal, and went to sit with the others. He was still half asleep, really, so eating took up most of his concentration. He relaxed, and let the others' conversation wash over him. He would miss this when he couldn't have it any more - he'd had similar experiences with his Bigbang members, of course, but it wasn't the same with different people.

This was nice - he didn't have anything planned for today, anything could happen. He just wanted to spend some last minute time with his friends.

He frowned as his phone went off in his pocket. It wasn't even his real phone, it was the phone of the Seungri here, which still always felt slightly invasive when he used it. He'd received a text message, one which would put a spanner in the works of his plan of relaxing today. Oh well.

**

Seungri sat down tentatively. Jiyong hadn't arrived, yet Seungri found himself becoming strangely nervous for this meeting. The other times he'd met Jiyong here had solidified in his mind that this definitely was not the same Jiyong that he knew, and his track record with meeting with Jiyong was sketchy at best.

On the one hand, this had the potential to go badly - the Jiyong here was definitely more volatile than the one he knew. On the other hand, he wanted to say goodbye to this Jiyong, who, in a way was something of a friend here.

After all, it was likely that Jiyong would be very confused after Seungri was gone - the Seungri here wasn't friends with Jiyong, he would have no reason to search him out. That might cause problems later on for the Seungri here - although that wouldn't affect him at all. Hahaha.

He began to nibble on the pastry that he'd bought - he was too hungry to wait for Jiyong to arrive to start eating. He took another peek at the text he'd received from Jiyong earlier asking to meet up today.

Hi Seunghyun!! It's Jiyong here. I was wondering if you wanted to meet up later? At that cafe we were in last time? Let me know ^-^

Seungri still wasn't entirely sure how Jiyong had got hold of his number - or rather, the number of the Seungri here - but he wasn't going to pass up this opportunity. Jiyong always had his ways, Seungri knew this, and he supposed that was the case in any universe.

Finally, Seungri saw the door to the cafe open, and he was suddenly nervous for no reason. He was mostly certain that this time meeting this Jiyong would go fine, but he couldn't be entirely sure. He watched Jiyong order, and come over to where Seungri was sitting holding a tray with his own pastries on it.

"Hey Jiyong hyung." Seungri made the first move. "How come you wanted to meet today?"

Jiyong laughed. "Do I need a reason? Sometimes I just like to meet up with my friends, Seunghyun."

Seungri laughed too - something about Jiyong's demeanour was putting him at ease. They exchanged more pleasantries, Seungri slightly unsure about how to go about making conversation with this Jiyong. Eventually, however, a thought popped into his head about the last time he'd seen Jiyong. "Hyung! Did you see Seunghyun hyung yet?"

Jiyong blushed slightly, and nodded. "Why do you ask?"

"Because I suggested you see him in the first place, I'm curious!" He bounced in his seat a little.

Jiyong shook his head. "Nope, that's between us."

Seungri tried whining. "But hyuuuuuuuuuuuuung, I wanna know." He tried adding some aegyo into the mix, but Jiyong continued to refuse. Seungri couldn't think why he didn't want for him to know, and it definitely wasn't because the author wanted him to find out later.

Eventually Jiyong held a finger up to Seungri's lips, which were currently pouting. "I'm not telling you, so you may as well stop trying, okay?"

After that was out of the way, conversation flowed much more naturally. He found himself really liking this world's Jiyong - despite some seemingly initial differences, they really were still the same person inside, and Seungri found himself able to talk and joke with him in the same way he could with the Jiyong that he knew from home. Of course there were times where he found himself wanting to quote an inside joke that this Jiyong would have no clue about - his joke about 'coffee is my everything went right over his head - but aside from that it was much the same.

It seemed as though right up until the point at which Hyunsuk had decided to create an idol group in Seungri's universe, Jiyong's life had been much the same, leaving his core personality mostly the same.

"Hey, Jiyong..." Seungri began. Jiyong raised an eyebrow. "I was thinking of meeting up with Seunghyun later... do you have his number?"

**

Seungri checked his phone. He was sure Seunghyun would be here by now, but by this point there wasn't much he could do to check to see whether Seunghyun was on time.

Seungri placed the drinks down on the table. It was cramped, just like the other times he'd talked to Seunghyun, but that was okay. He couldn't help but contrast this with his conversation earlier with Jiyong, which was also a conversation over a table, with the two of them sat intimately at a small table together.

"You'll never guess what happened to me the other day," Seunghyun began. Seungri couldn't possibly begin to imagine what that might be - he didn't know enough about Seunghyun's life here to be able to make guessed like that.

"Um, I don't know."

"I got to meet up with someone yesterday," Seunghyun continued, "and he said that you'd told him that he should speak to me."

"Seunghyun, I don't know any of your friends..." It still felt odd to say things like this, but in this world, it was true.

Seunghyun laughed. "I think you know this one. Jiyong?"

Of course! How could he have forgotten his last talk with Jiyong? What with travelling between universes, it felt as though it had happened much longer ago. "Right! How did it go?"

Seunghyun nodded slowly. "Pretty well. I mean, it was strange seeing him after so long, but it was good."

"Is that it? It was good?" Seungri couldn't help but be curious now.

Seunghyun laughed again. "Why are you so desperate to know?"

Uh oh. "Well... I'm the one who brought you two together again, surely I should get to know a few more details about how it went? Plus I tried asking Jiyong earlier and he wouldn't tell me." Seungri pouted, and hoped that that excuse would work - he was just really curious. Besides, as far as he was concerned, these were his friends.

Seunghyun have him an indulgent smile. "Oh, alright then. Let's see what I can remember. Um... we met up here. We sat down just over there -" he pointed over at a table somewhere behind Seungri, "-and he seemed pretty happy to see me. I don't know, it was weird, it's been years." He sighed. "We reminisced a lot. I... I don't think you'd be interested in that, Seunghyun. "

Seungri raised an eyebrow. "Why would I not be interested? Tell me more about you, really." Seungri wasn't sure when he'd reached a stage with this version of Seunghyun hyung were he'd be willing to share about his past, but he wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to hear more.

"Um... it was just weird, like I said." He shrugged. "I've seen him on tv plenty of times over the years, but never up close. Not since long before now. He had to cover up and everything to hide. I'm sure you're used to that, but I'm not."

Seungri nodded absently. Despite technically knowing that Seunghyun wasn't an idol here, it still caught him off guard to hear him reference it - the Seunghyun he knew was just as used to covering up as he was. "But what did you talk about?" He pushed.

Seunghyun shrugged again. "Like, I said, old times." He grinned. "We even thought about what might have happened if I'd joined an entertainment company. Can you imagine what that would have been like?"

Seungri laughed awkwardly. "I... I don't know, he said." He could, he'd been there, but... "What do you think that would have been like? What did you come up with?" He was curious about whether they got it right.

"Hmm... well our first idea was about a rap group with me, him and Youngbae, which we thought would have been pretty cool. Then we wondered that if I'd joined sooner it could have been just a rap duo with me and Jiyong, or me and Youngbae, which I think would have been way weirder. Honestly that was all the rap combinations we could think of, but I don't know if any of them would have actually worked out." He shrugged. "I guess we'll never know."

Seungri nodded. "But what about if you were in an idol group? Did you consider that?" He asked eagerly.

Seunghyun began to laugh hysterically. Seungri was slightly affronted, but understood why he was laughing. "We didn't think about that, no. Do you not remember what I said the first time we met? I would do terribly in an idol group. No way."

Seungri's face fell. Of course, Seunghyun had told him that. "Well I know you'd do great." He muttered. He thought he'd got away with it too until he saw the confusion on Seunghyun's face.

"How could you possibly know that?"

Seungri sighed - he was tired of pretending all the time, and besides, tomorrow was his last day here. What harm could it really do? He leaned forward towards Seunghyun. "I'm from a parallel universe. You're an idol there." He stated quietly but firmly.

Seunghyun rolled his eyes. "Of course you are."

"No, I really am. I know you well there. We're in an idol group. It's very successful."

"Sure we are. I would never have become an idol. Besides, even if I did, where's your proof, anyway." Seunghyun still seemed sceptical.

Seungri thought for a moment. "Well... how else do you think I knew to send Jiyong to meet up with you? I already knew that the two of you were friends in the past." Seunghyun seemed taken aback at this truth, and so Seungri continued. "Besides, why else do you think I sought you out? The version of myself here isn't into rap, you know that as well as I do."

"Say I do believe you... what happens now?"

Seungri pointed a finger at Seunghyun. "Wait, hold on, you're going to believe me just like that? You're not going to... I dunno, scream, shout, have a mental breakdown?" This was the easiest acceptance he'd had so far, even calmer than the person whom he'd expected the quickest belief from.

Seunghyun shrugged. "Sure. You've given me some pretty solid evidence, why not believe you?"

Seungri was shook. "Really? Wow, thank you."

"Sure, I like you, kid. But really though, what are you going to do about it?"

"Ah..." Seungri realised that his mistake was not telling Seunghyun about being from another universe, it was that he had to deliver the bad news. "Well... the thing is... for me this is a chance to say goodbye to people."

Seunghyun frowned. "What do you mean?"

"Well I had a dream last night about the whole thing. Tomorrow is going to be my last day here. Ever."

Seunghyun sat there and seemed to be processing that information. After a good ten seconds, he picked up his drink, stood up and walked away from the table, all without saying a word. Seungri scrambled to follow him, abandoning his own drink.

"Seunghyun - Seunghyun wait!" He called after him. He managed to catch Seunghyun's arm, and pulled him to face him.

Seunghyun seemed unbothered. "What?"

"Why did you walk away?" Seungri asked, feeling anxious. Had he made a mistake in telling Seunghyun?

"I'd got to like you, kid. I really thought we might even be able to be friends. But if this isn't the you that'll be here tomorrow..." He shrugged. "Why should I bother to make this friendship now when I'll never see you again?"

"I..." Seungri wanted to protest what Seunghyun was saying but he couldn't think of anything that would genuinely counteract the argument. "I guess you're right." Despite Seunghyun apparent coldness, Seungri pulled him in for a hug anyway. "I'll miss you hyung. Goodbye."

Seunghyun's cold exterior seemed to thaw momentarily, and he hugged him back quickly. "Have a good life," he said quietly, and he walked away, disappearing into the crowd. Seungri found himself more emotional than he should have been - after all, he'd only seen this Seunghyun a handful of times. Nevertheless, he'd got the goodbye he wanted. He couldn't really complain.

Chapter 31: Wow it's so strange reading about other Seunghyun than Seungri, but I kind of like it. It brings insight to what happened to Seunghyun that whole time during the universe swap. Jonghyun should known soon that his Seunghyun is back.

I'm sad that the end has come, but thank you so much for writing such a wonderful story. It was quite a journey, and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Chapter 31: So does that mean Seunghyun didn't have the same experience as Seungri had??? Omg

I feel so giddy. Reading about Seunghyun is a bit weird, but then I remember that he isn't Seungri and it becomes refreshing. I have a feeling Jonghyun would know eventually though.

It's been amazing. I mean, just the concept and the possibilities really brought me in. Thank you so much! I'm really glad that I perused the Seungri tag one day and found this. Thank you! :)
