Polar Opposites

Polar.

"Minghao-ah~~"

The man in question poked his head through the doorway, to see a distressed Mingyu.

"Have you seen my tie?" he asked,

"Are you freakin' kidding me?"

"Just answer my question!"

Minghao sighed and looked around the room, before picking up a couple of plastic bags, and tossing the taller a white tie,

"Here"

Mingyu smiled as he caught it,

"Thanks," he said, "What would I do without you?" Mingyu asked with a childish smile

"Probably not be ready to wait at the altar in a few minutes," Minghao replied, wiping the childish smile off the latter's face, as he mocked the other with a scrunched up nose.

Minghao chuckled and walked up beside Mingyu, looking at both of them in the mirror.

Mingyu was wearing an all white tuxedo, contrasted by a black dress shirt underneath, with a white tie layered on top. He looked in the mirror, fixing minor details of his suit, and his collar, as an excited grin spread across his face. Minghao laughed upon seeing the happiness practically beaming from his bestfriend's face,

"You ready?" he asked

Mingyu continued to look at himself as his mind was filled with Wonwoo,

"I think I was ready 7 years ago.." he answered.

Today was September 23, 2022.

Mingyu and Wonwoo's 7 year anniversary, and today was also the day of their wedding.

Really cliche and cheesy to get married on your anniversary, but Mingyu was that kind of sappy romantic.

Meanwhile, while Mingyu and Minghao were conversing, Jun was in another room helping his bestfriend with his collar at the back of his neck.

"Well, don't you look dapper" he said as Wonwoo laughed in reply,

"You looked better on your wedding day." he said.

Jun hummed and said,

"Yeah, I did.", receiving a playful punch in the arm,

"I'm just kidding~" he assured as he chuckled, "You look handsome, puberty was nice to you." Jun said, recalling Wonwoo from their childhood.

"Wow, what a confidence booster," Wonwoo joked, "Most amazing bestman award goes to~" he continued teasing.

In contrast to Mingyu, Wonwoo was wearing a black tuxedo, white dress shirt underneath a sleek black tie that matched his hair. He checked himself out in the mirror as a smile spread across his face,

"I can't believe this is finally happening..." he said, as happiness filled his every word.

Jun couldn't help but smile himself as he watched Wonwoo spin around the mirror, making sure his tuxedo was perfect. The chestnut haired boy reminisced about the past, and laughed at the Junhui from 7 years ago that loved Wonwoo, and even threatened his current fiance. He still loves Wonwoo, as a brother. And, his husband made him realize why they never worked out.

"Wonwoo-ssi, the guests are ready, and everyone's in their positions." the staff smiled and continued, "the aisle awaits you."

Wonwoo nodded as Jun went to go out first,

"Well, you better believe it." were his final, joyful words as he entered the main church area first.

Wonwoo looked at himself one more time in the mirror, and smiled as imense happiness overcame him.

Mingyu was waiting anxiously at the altar, tapping his foot as he excitedly expected Wonwoo's arrival. On either side of the lectern were his brothers, all in sleek suits. On Mingyu's side were 3 of them in white suits, while Wonwoo's side had the other 3 in black.

Mingyu stopped tapping his foot, and straightened his back when the music started playing.

It wasn't the traditional, "Here Comes the Bride", Mingyu and Wonwoo refused to have that played. Instead, they had their own little intro song. As Wonwoo came out of the hall, and revealed himself to the rest of the church, Mingyu could feel his heart beating faster.

As Wonwoo took the first step down the aisle, the song's lyrics echoed throughout the church.

Short steps, deep breath

Everything is alright.

Mingyu's lips parted slightly in awe, as he witnessed the love of his life walk down the aisle, his perfect body being fitted by a sleek black suit. Smiling and waving at some family members and friends sitting in the pews. However his lips curled into a loving smile when he locked eyes with Wonwoo. Mingyu's eyes formed content crescents as Wonwoo finally arrived at the altar, as the first chorus of the song finish off,

If you're with me

Then everything's alright.

Mingyu stared at the man infront of him with endearing eyes,

"Dearly Beloved," the priest started, smiling, "We are gathered together here in the sight of God, to join together this Man, and this Man in Holy Matrimony..."

Neither Mingyu nor Wonwoo payed attention to the rest as they just got lost in each other's eyes. But, Mingyu did manage to hear the part where the Priest asked,

"If anyone can show just cause why this couple cannot lawfully be joined together in matrimony, let themspeak now or forever hold their piece."

Mingyu looked around the crowd, as if daring someone to do so. Then, he raised a playful eyebrow at Jun, who laughed as he raised his left hand to show off a wedding ring.

The Priest said a few more words, and before Mingyu knew it, it was time to say his vows.

The tall professor cleared his throat as he accepted a mic from Jihoon who was at his right,

"Ahem" he exaggerated, "I don't really know how vows are supposed to be written..." he laughed,

"But I do know they're supposed to be like a promise." Mingyu exhaled as he looked into Wonwoo's eyes,

"Jeon Wonwoo." Mingyu started,

"I vow to be faithful to you, for all eternity. I vow to never stop loving you, as long as we both shall live. I promise to always try my hardest to make 'us' work, and to talk to you, and admit that I'm wrong even if it's the opposite."

Wonwoo and the guests laughed,

"I vow to annoy you endlessly, and remind you daily how much I love you. And lastly, I vow to never," he stared into Wonwoo's eyes, conveying his sincerity,

"Ever. let you go, because no one can ever take your place."

The crowd clapped, as Mingyu handed the mic to Wonwoo,

"Wow, okay," the deep voice said, "Thanks for taking all the good ones." he continued, earning a laugh from Mingyu and the guests.

"Kim Mingyu," he exhaled,

"Geez, already tired of my name, huh?" the latter joked, as the crowd laugh in response.

"I vow to love you, no matter what we go through. I promise to always try and cooperate to make sure our relationship never crumbles. I vow to never let you sleep on the couch, no matter how upset I am," he chuckled,

"And lastly, I vow to love you up until my last breath, and the last beat of my heart, for it only beats for you."

"Yah~" Mingyu said, "what a poet." he continued as he retrieved the mic from Wonwoo,

"But, this wedding wouldn't be fun if our vows were this serious and cheesy right? That's not the kind of couple we are" Mingyu said before pulling out a piece of paper from the inner pocket of his tux, and Wonwoo did the same

"So, we decided to write each other some vows." Mingyu explained,

"We haven't read these at all," he assured, and his eyes trailed down an unfolded piece of paper as he laughed.

"I, Kim Mingyu, vow to admit that Wonwoo is superior and always right." he recited.

Mingyu looked to the crowd,

"Well, isn't that a great start." Wonwoo was laughing the hardest,

"I vow to stop snoring so loudly that it wakes up my lovely husband, although it's not like he needs his beauty sleep." Mingyu scoffed in faux disbelief before finishing,

"And finally, I vow to love Wonwoo, just as much as he loves me... and that's quite alot." Mingyu ended Wonwoo's written vows with a laugh.

Wonwoo gave a teasing applause and accepted the mic, as he scanned the unfolded paper.

"I, Jeon Wonwoo, vow to always fix our bed-" Wonwoo stopped, then looked at Mingyu,

"Wait, no, babe, I can't promise this."

Mingyu looked confused,

"What the-"

"You know how I feel about fixing the bed. I see no point in it, considering we'll be sleeping in it later the same night so,"

"Babe, no, that's not the point-"

The pointless bicker between the couple caused the guests to laugh.

Minghao leaned in to speak to Jun,

"Expect Mingyu and Wonwoo to argue... on their wedding day," Jun chuckled, and Minghao looked at the scene infront of them,

"at the altar" he concluded.

After laughing, Wonwoo finally continued,

"I promise to go stargazing with my amazing husband, and accept the fact that he snores - beautifully, may I add. And lastly, I vow to love my lame yet badass husband for the rest of our lives."

The crowd applauded and cheered at the entertaining vows the couple wrote for each other, even the Priest put a hand over his mouth to conceal his laughter in an attempt to maintain professionalism.

The Priest continued the ceremony, and then gave the couple a chance to say a few words to each other.

Mingyu went first,

"7 years ago, on our first date, you asked me a question." he said,

"You asked me what I liked about you, and back then I sincerely said, I didn't know. Thinking back on that moment now, I realize that it's not that I didn't know, it's that I didn't know how to put it into words... And, I probably still don't, but I'm gonna try" the latter said, laughing lightly at the end of his words.

"I like the way you tried to talk to me, when no one else bothered to, even if you did stutter. I like the way you fought really hard for me, which ended up getting both of us detention. I like the way you told me you didn't believe "Opposites attract', and yet here you are, marrying me. What I like about you is the way you blushed so easily, and the way you look extremely cute in my sweaters or jackets. I like the way you held my hand on that bridge, despite me being a total , but who could blame me, I was blindfolded. I like when instead of getting angry at me for shoving ice cream in your face, you just did the same back, with that amazing smile of yours. I like the way you see no point in fixing beds." Mingyu smiled, as Wonwoo began tearing up,

"I like the way you stayed with my mom when she came to drop off my textbooks. I like our little dates that mean nothing to others, but the whole world to me. I like the way you scrunch up your nose when you laugh, and the way you let your emotions show, although I kind of wish you left some just for me. What I like about you is the way you saw right through me, while I was being an when we broke up, yet you still took me back..."

Mingyu inhaled, as his voice started shaking slightly, as happy tears started pooling at his eyes,

"There are so many things that I like about you, that I've found out throughout the past 7 years, and I'm excited to still find more reasons in our future together. To put it simply, I like you because you're you, Wonwoo-ah. And I don't think I could ask for anything more amazing than you."

Wonwoo wiped his tears as he cleared his throat, a little more deeper than usual to prove that he still had some masculinity in him. He smiled as he received the mic from Mingyu,

"7 years ago, I asked you that question, and yes, you did give quite a vague answer. However, I, on the otherhand, told you that I already knew the answer, and said I would tell you the day you told me... Didn't think it would take you 7 years but,"

the crowd and Mingyu laughed,

"Within these 7 years, I've come to find more reasons than I originally had on our first date, but something that didn't change is my love for you. Mingyu-ah, what I like about you is the way you talked to me, despite me being a total nervous wreck with all my stuttering. I liked the way you saved me from the bucket falling, although that did put us in quite a close situation," he chuckled as Mingyu did so too,

"I like the way you opened up to me on that bridge, and held my hand with trust. I like the way you're so playful, yet serious and badass. I like the way you fix my bed whenever you're over, because you know I won't do it myself. What I like about you is the way you walked your mom home the day she dropped off your textbooks, and the little spontaneous dates you plan. I like that you were willing to play the bad guy, and hide your true feelings and break up with me because you wanted to keep me safe. Stupid idea by the way, because you can't get rid of me that easily."

Wonwoo added, with a light laugh as he sniffled from the happy tears before continuing,

"I like your passion for the stars, and how much you care for people. Your brothers, Seokmin and most especially your mom who I'm sureis tearing up in Heaven. I like the way you hold me as if I'm fragile, and you're the one who makes me stronger. I like the way you fought for me in that alley, the way you carried me to the hospital and the next morning left some ramen and flowers. What I like about you is everything you are, you were and have yet to be. I like you because you're Kim Mingyu, and there's no one else like you. In summary, I like you for you, for everything you have to offer, because you're the childish, badass person I fell for 7 years ago, and continue to fall for every single day."

The shorter concluded, as he looked up at Mingyu with loving eyes.

The guests clapped, and Narin wiped her happy tears while Minsung cleared his throat to prevent any from accumulating. The boys, who were now sitting in the front row stood up as they cheered. The Priest smiled as he continued the ceremony, eventually concluding it.

"Do you, Kim Mingyu, take Jeon Wonwoo to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love and to hold..."

The calm voice trailed off as Mingyu focused on Wonwoo's eyes, drowning in them. It wasn't until the Priest cleared his throat before he said a confident,

"I do."

Wonwoo chuckled, as the Priest continued,

"Do you, Jeon Wonwoo, take Kim Mingyu to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love and to hold..."

Once again the words were inaudible as Wonwoo became excited and the loud beating of his heart had silenced the sacred words, but he managed to say, on time,

"I do."

The man smiled as he closed the Bible, and concluded

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and husband."

Mingyu smiled as he bit his lip, impatiently.

"You may now kiss the groom,"

"Finally"

A whisper managed to escape Mingyu's lips before he locked them with Wonwoo's. The kiss was deep and passionate, and overall happy. The familiar touch of their lips felt different this time. The crowd roared in cheers as they continued kissing, and eventually smiled into their kiss. Mingyu took Wonwoo's face in his hands, and the shorter placed his hands on Mingyu's. They stared into each other's eyes for a few seconds, the cheers being zoned out into peaceful silence as the two were in their own world.

"Hello, Kim Wonwoo," Mingyu said with a smile

"Hello, Kim Mingyu." Wonwoo replied with a smile just as loving as his husband's.

"Shall we?" the taller teased as he held out his hand.

Wonwoo just laughed and took his hand as they ran down the aisle, the guests in the pews standing and cheering as they did so. Soonyoug quickly grabbed a mic and announced,

"Let's go Mr. and Mr. Kim!!" and the cheers got louder.

After about an hour, everyone was settled back in the venue where their reception was being held. The large room was decorated in accessories of white and black, contrasting each other yet blending in together to form a beautiful venue. The guests were talking to each other, when the doors opened, revealing the newly wedded couple, holding hands happily.

Mingyu walked up to the DJ to receive a mic,

"Uh, first of all, I would like to thank all of you for being here with us on our special day. Even more so to the people who've been with us through it all. I would personally like to thank my husband," he smiled proudly, stressing the last word,

"Wonwoo, for dealing with me for 7 years, and hopefully he can tolerate me for the rest of our lives... Wish him luck though!" Mingyu said as the guests laughed and clapped.

Wonwoo took the mic,

"But, seriously, thank you guys so so much. I don't think I'd be where I am in my life right now, without each and every one of you guys here..." the shorter looked up,

"Especially my husband," he said with a loving smile.

"Okay!" the Jihoon who was standing beside the DJ said,

"I would like to ask that the guests please remain in their seats as Mr. and Mr. Kim share their first dance as husbands."

And with his words, a beautiful song started playing in the background. As Mingyu took Wonwoo's hand in his, and brough his other to Wonwoo's waist to pull him close. Wonwoo smiled as he wrapped his arms around Mingyu's neck.

Wherever we're standing, I won't take you for granted

Cause you'll never know when, when we'll run out of time

So I'm gonna love you, like I'm gonna lose you...

The lyrics of the song played in the background as Mingyu and Wonwoo danced. The song was special as it conveyed their emotions of treasuring each moment they have together. Because they know how easily something or someone could be taken away in the blink of an eye.

As the song came to an end, Mingyu couldn't help but kiss Wonwoo once again. Wonwoo kissed back lovingly, as they concluded their first dance as husbands.

After their dance, the dance floor became open to everyone, and many people danced. Meanwhile, Mingyu and Wonwoo were seated infront of Jun and Minghao as they waited for the guests to go get food first. Before the guests got food, though, Mingyu made a toast,

"I would like to make a toast, to our relationship that has definitely had it's up and downs, but I will never love anyone else..." he said as he brought up glass,

"To my cheesy, romantic husband," Wonwoo said, and added,

"And also his brothers, Momma Kim," he chuckled, "and also a certain boy named Lee Seokmin."

As their glasses clinked, and the crowd applauded, Mingyu said,

"To us."

At the table, Mingyu and Wonwoo were discussing something very important.

"So, for our Honeymoon, I was thinking we could just go visit Japan, you know, stay pretty close." Mingyu suggested,

"Wait- I wanted to go visit Cuba," Wonwoo objected.

"But, Japan was somewhere that we agreed on a while ago,"

"Yeah, a while ago." Wonwoo repeated, "things change."

"Babe, Cuba is..."

Their bickering continued and amused Jun and Minghao, who leaned in and said,

"The places they're arguing about..."

"They're on opposite sides of the world." his husband finished his sentence.

Minghao laughed as he nodded in agreement. He stared at the couple, and thought about how much they've been through in 7 years, and he felt lucky to have been through the same 7 with Junhui. Suddenly, the man brought up his wine glass to Jun, who grabbed his own instinctively.

"What're we toasting to, babe?"

"Hmmm" he thought for a few seconds.

Minghao looked at the couple, still arguing about visiting places that were on opposite sides of the world, in their constrasting tuxedos. Mingyu dressed in white, and Wonwoo in charcoal black. It was beautiful, how the opposite colours described their relationship.

And with a clink of Jun and Minghao's glasses, Minghao said

"To polar opposites."

Chapter 36: Hai Zen! I spent a few days to finish this story. And I realllyyyyy love this!!! How the story goes sweetly, then comes the problem that makes me a little scared when Mingyu fights. I like the portrayal of Wonwoo's character. It doesn't feel forced, just flows naturally. And I'm reading this in 2022 which made it easy for me to match their young and current images. Lastly, thank you for presenting a beautiful story!!
And, I was wondering where is Seungkwan? I didn't find him in every chapter. Just curious.
