Fair

Polar.

"No, I mean, I think I understand why he likes you."

Jaesuk's face was getting closer, and Wonwoo stopped working on the poster. He put down the pencil, and faced the boy.

"Back off, Jaesuk. Let's just get this done so that I can leave and not see you."

He resumed working on the poster, and tried to ignore Jaesuk. However, Jaesuk relentlessly annoyed Wonwoo, with comments about him and his boyfriend. Wonwoo looked at the boy again, ready to tell him off.

"Can you just shut up about Mingyu? And back off of me? I'm not conceited but I know when someone's making a pass at me so if you could just off, that'd be great."

Wonwoo stopped talking, out of breath because of the amount of words he had just angrily spouted. The two were locked in eye contact, and that's when Jaesuk heard it. The sound of footsteps. It didn't sound like 2 people jogging, so that eliminated Jun and Minghao. It could either be a teacher, or committee member from another walking down the hall. Or, the best case scenario for Jaesuk, Mingyu. He decided to take a chance, considering he had done much more 'dangerous' things with uncertainty before. As soon as he heard the footsteps getting close enough to the, his timing was impeccable, as he placed his lips on Wonwoo's as the man of the hour just got to the doorway. Wonwoo immediately broke away, and was ready to punch the boy who had kissed him, but then he saw his boyfriend who, by the look on his face, had witnessed what had just happened. And so, many misunderstandings occured. It didn't help the situation that Wonwoo was out of breath, not because of a passionate, non-stopping make out session that Mingyu had probably assumed. But because he had just finished telling a douchebag to back off him and his boyfriend. Before Wonwoo could explain the situation, Jaesuk took the first words, and the only thing that could escape the Class President's lips was his boyfriend's name,

"Mingyu-ah"

"I know why you're with him now, Mingyu... He's one Hell of a good kisser."

Mingyu just looked at the two, who he caught at extremely horrible timing. Part of the teen wanted to punch Jaesuk for kissing Wonwoo, and another part wondered if Wonwoo let him. This part of him wanted to think that this happened for the better, and it was maybe a sign that Wonwoo did like him just physically. The other part tried to remind him that they didn't even really do anything physical. The most they've done was kiss, and that seldom happens, and when it does, Mingyu is the one who initiates it. The 3 seconds of silence and stillness seemed like an eternity. Unaware of what to do, Mingyu just kept a straight face and walked out of the class, roughly brushing into Minghao as he did so, almost making him drop the paint

"Yah, Mingyu-ah. What's wrong?"

Minghao called out as Mingyu didn't look back, and just kept walking. Jun and Minghao looked into class to see Wonwoo try to go after Mingyu. The Class President had a worried expression on his face, and his body was in motion to go after his boyfriend. Jaesuk grabbed his arm, preventing him from moving and what happened next. Wonwoo felt the grip around his wrist, and quickly turned around, landing a harsh punch on the 's face. Jaesuk wasn't expecting that, and he stared at the ground, stunned with pain and surprise that Wonwoo hit him, eyes wide. Minghao and Jun also had their eyes more open than usual, never expecting Wonwoo to do what he just did.

"Don't ing touch me."

Wonwoo demanded, his voice low and dominant. His worried expression was quickly replaced with anger. He took back his wrist and started walking out the class, trying to keep sight on Mingyu. As he was walking, he wiped his lips, violently, feeling disgusted that someone else except Mingyu kissed his lips. It felt horribly wrong, and he felt like crying as he continuously used his sleeve to wipe away any trace of that so called 'kiss'. Back at class, Jun and Minghao were stunned with shock and wondering exactly what the Hell just happened. The blue haired boy was the first to break the silence,

"What the Hell did you do?"

Jaesuk wiped away a tiny trace of blood coming from his lip as a result of a furious punch. He smirked,

"It was just a kiss," he said as if it weren't a big deal,

"C'mon, I'm sure him and Mingyu screw all the time," and Minghao was about to swing, when Jun took Jaesuk by the collar.

"If you disrespect either of them, or their relationship one more time, I will make sure to ruin your life."

Minghao had a satisfied look on his face, content that Jun spoke out. Jaesuk started laughing,

"Why are you telling me this? I heard about you and your unrequited love with Wonwoo...", he was looking Jun in the eyes,

"I bet you secretly want them to break up."

Jun chuckled,

"They would never break up because of you... If I couldn't stop it, don't even think for a second that you can."

-------------

Wonwoo was walking on the busy sidewalk, looking for Mingyu. He had been too late as he walked out of the school building, and Mingyu was already no where in sight. Wonwoo tried texting him and calling him, but to no avail. The Class President then made his way to a familiar place. Mingyu's previous warning of not going to the base alone popped in his head, but his priority was to find Mingyu and explian, so he continued walking. As he got closer to the building, he heard multiple voices, not being able to distinguish if Mingyu's was present, so he just walked in. When the door opened, 8 heads turned and looked at Wonwoo.

"Wonwoo-hyung! What're you doing here?" LeeChan asked with a smile on his face.

Wonwoo looked around the room, seeing familiar faces, but not Mingyu's.

"Is Mingyu here?", Wonwoo asked, not really asking anyone in particular as his eyes were darting around the room.

The boys exchanged looks, and Joshua looked at Wonwoo confused,

"Nope. We thought he was with you guys at school.", and the others nodded in agreement.

Wonwoo sighed heavily, with dissappointment. He was really hoping he would be here, because other than this place, Wonwoo had no idea of where Mingyu would be.

"Want some food?" Jeonghan said, while holding up some fries.

Wonwoo just smiled, and said

"No, it's okay. Thanks."

Then the Class President proceeded to walk outside the door, leaving the base. The sound of the door closing shut resounded in the room, followed by silence as the boys stopped what they were doing, and just stared at the door.

"You're being stupid." Seungcheol's voice broke the silence, which was followed by more of it.

"I know." a deep voice said from behind the couch. Mingyu was sitting on the floor, back leaning against the back of the couch, one of his legs folded up so that his arm was resting on his knee, and the other oustretched on the floor.

"He's got some cuts, coming back here alone." Hansol said as the boys resumed their eating and other activities.

Mingyu sighed,

"Was he hurt? Did he have any bruises, cuts?" he asked, worried.

Jeonghan scoffed,

"You sound pretty worried for someone who is prompting a break up."

"Can one of you guys follow him, just so that he doesn't get into any trouble? Just- try not to get seen."

LeeChan volunteered to go, and quietly made his way outside the base in silent pursuit of the Class President-hyung.

Mingyu looked at the ground, and bit his lip, worried. Jeonghan saw the action and assured his friend saying,

"No, he was perfectly fine. Except for the fact that he's desperately trying to find his boyfriend."

"Don't call me that, please." Mingyu said, causing everyone in the room to pause.

"What the Hell do you mean by that?" Seungcheol asked.

"I don't know, anymore. What... What is what Jaesuk said was true. It would explain why I caught them kissing, right?" Mingyu scoffed, and shook his head saying

"What if it was all just physical..."

Mingyu snapped out of his depressing thoughts by a whack in the head from a book.

"Don't be so freakin' stupid." Soonyoung said, his arm still in the position where he let go of the book.

"You know Wonwoo's not like that." Joshua said.

Mingyu started chuckling,

"Actually, I know nothing about Wonwoo. We're not similar in any way, so I can't even lie to you guys and guess his favourite things, or hobbies."

"You complete idiot. And you do have something in common. You both like each other, so don't even lie." Soonyoung said.

Mingyu scoffed,

"But, is it the same type of like?"

And the room went quiet again, no one really sure how to answer the question. Mingyu got up from his hiding position and made his way out of the base as he waved his group of boys goodbye, and left.

The next day of school was unusually quiet and lonely. It was the first time in a long time that Mingyu hadn't shown up for school. Wonwoot tried texting him, calling him, even using Minghao's phone in hopes of getting a response, but he didn't get one. By now, he was worried, not so much about clarifying the misunderstanding, but he was worried if Mingyu was still alive. During Lunch Minghao and Jun sat with Wonwoo, and tried carrying on a normal conversation, not mentioning Mingyu for the sake of Wonwoo. The Class President went through the rest of the week, still not hearing from his 'boyfriend', honestly unsure of what to call him at this point. By Friday, the only hope that Wonwoo had of seeing Mingyu was at the Fall Fair. After a week of not speaking, or even seeing the tall boy, Wonwoo wondered if it was really all worth it. Wondered if Mingyu would even should up at the fair. And even if he did, would he stop and listen to him? It didn't help that Jaesuk was still part of their booth so the odds of the Class Pres. seeing and actually being able to talk to Mingyu were quite low. But he decided to try anyway. On the day of the Fair, after school, he went home and started getting ready. He found himself trying on and taking off several outfits, wondering with each one if Mingyu would like it. Now, he was staring at himself in the mirror, wearing black jeans, and a plain black hoodie. He thought it was missing some colours, so he looked around his room, searching for something to add to his current outfit. As he searched, a red jacket caught his eye, and he walked towards it. Wonwoo picked up the jacket and hugged it, burying his face in it's fabric.

"I will make you hear the truth."

Speaking to Mingyu through his jacket.

Wonwoo then proceeded to tie it around his waist, and thought that now the outfit just needed a hat. He took a white snapback and put it on backwards, the bright white contrasting with his ebony hair. He looked in the mirror one last time, and made his way downstairs, encountering his mom on the way.

"Oh Honey, you look so handsome."

Wonwoo chuckled as he slipped on a pair of all white Adidas that matched his hat. He kissed his mom on the cheek, and was headed out the door when the familiar feminine voice said,

"Mingyu will like that!"

Wonwoo turned around quickly, his face expressing surprise, only to see his mother smirking, proudly.

"Wait-what! Mom, what-"

She cut him off as she closed the door yelling,

"Bye Sweetie~! Tell Mingyu I said Hi!"

Then the door closed shut without any response from Wonwoo.

As he walked to school, his mom's words popped into his head and he thought,

"I hope he does." while looking down at his outfit, that took him so long to choose.

Meanwhile at school, the football field was covered with booths, and even some rides, the lights hung on strings above, illuminated the fair, making things seem a lot more special and magical. Among the stalls were a bunch of people, walking the pathways created by the booths. The Fall Fair had always been fun, so it became really popular at their school. Wonwoo got a few stares as he walked by, the students only used to seeing him in a school uniform. He found their booth, and instantly frowned when he saw that only Jaesuk was there.

"Wow." Jaesuk said, checking Wonwoo out from head to toe,

"You look hot." he said with a satisfied look on his face. Wonwoo dismissed the comment, and asked, blandly,

"Where's Minghao and Jun?"

"They're checking out the fair. When they come back to watch the stall, it'll be our turn to enjoy it."

Wonwoo took in the information, but showed no external sign of acknowledgement. The night continued, and as the sun set, many people stopped by their booth, mostly fan girls of Jaesuk, but some people played the Ring Toss, and Wonwoo always gave a friendly smile when giving out a prize.

Meanwhile, Jun and Minghao were checking out the fair, walking side by side both with smiles on their faces as the colourful lights shone and reflected off their radiant smiles. Minghao was carrying some cotton candy on a stick, while Jun was enjoying some chicken skewers.

"It looks like your hair," Jun said as he opened his mouth wide, taking a bite out of the cotton candy and laughing. The blue haired boy starting laughing and he too, took a bite out of his cotton candy. After months of spending time with each other, Minghao had eventually fallen for Junhui. He liked his laugh, his smile, his voice, their long conversations that could go on for hours. Minghao enjoyed his company, his presence, and his heart hurt when he saw Jun upset. So, he decided to just suppress his feelings, and to just be the best friend that could help him and comfort him during Jun's infatuation with Wonwoo. Minghao never told Jun, telling himself that it was for the better, so that Jun could cope and deal with Wonwoo without having to acknowledge Minghao's feelings. Little did he know that little by little, Jun was starting to fall for him too. Unknowingly, the chestnut haired boy started becoming concerned, and started caring about a certain cotton candy haired misfit. It wasn't a distraction or a replacement for Wonwoo, and Jun knew that, and he knew that the feelings he had for Wonwoo had faded away, while the same feelings for someone new started to flourish. They continued walking, both of them trying to contain their happiness for the sake of each other. Side by side, their hands brushing each other's from time to time, the contact making both boys' hearts flutter.

"Minghao-ah."

"Hmm?" Minghao replied.

"Do you still like the same person that you did, when we were up on the roof?"

Minghao looked straight ahead, taking another bite of his cotton candy.

"Mhm!"

"Have you told him?"

"Nope!"

"Why?"

"Because he fully likes someone else... It'll just make things harder if I say it."

Junhui looked at the blue haired boy while Minghao's eyes stayed glued forward.

"Make things harder, huh? I think I can deal with that."

"How about you? Do you still like Wonwoo?", it was his turn to ask questions.

Jun shook his head, and smiled thinking of who his current crush was.

"Nope, I like someone else. But, he likes someone, and I don't know if it's me." he said. Minghao eyes widened with surprise which masked his nervousness and slight disappointment knowing Jun still liked someone.

"Do you think you'll ever tell him?"

Jun nodded,

"I'm planning on doing it tonight.", and Minghao just nodded in response.

"How?"

"Like this." Jun said, and he took Minghao's chin in his hand, delicately. He pressed his lips on the slightly shorter's lips, whose head was tilted a bit upwards to meet the kiss. They seperated, and looking into each other's eyes, and Minghao said,

"I think that'll get the message across."

And the two started laughing, and started walking again. As they were walking, Jun felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, and it was a text from Wonwoo. He turned to Minghao saying,

"Yah, let's go back, Wonwoo's alone with Jaesuk."

Then the two lightly jogged towards the stall, and took over, relieving Wonwoo from his watch. Then, he instantly walked into the busy walkways, searching for a tall male. It shouldn't be that hard to find Mingyu, considering he was taller than most, and his hair was distinct and attractive. Wonwoo was searching deligently, hoping and praying that Mingyu would actually be there.

Then he saw him.

He saw the familiar tall, handsome figure of his boyfriend, standing near the ferris wheel. Mingyu was wearing his classic white tee, a long dark grey cardigan that reached his knees. Black jeans, and all white shoes, just like Wonwoo.

Wonwoo immediately ran towards the boy, and the crowd parted for him as he had no plans in slowing down. He grabbed the wrist of the older, who was surprised and was dragged into a ferris wheel cart, and Wonwoo locked him in. Then, the ride started. Mingyu didn't even process who was infront of him, because as soon as he felt the cart start going up, he immediately shut his eyes, refusing to look at the heights.

"Yah, yah! What's your problem? Let me off of this now." Mingyu said, gripping the bar infront of his stomach.

He then heard a familiar chuckle, and forced one eye open to see Wonwoo sitting infront of him, his chin in the palm of his hand.

"Nope. Not a chance. I need you to listen to what I have to say."

Mingyu opened both of his eyes, still clenching on to the metal bar that secured him in position. He looked Wonwoo in the eye, and all his emotions of love, yearning, caring, and worries came flowing back to him. After not seeing Wonwoo for a week, seeing him again was kind of a challenge. Wonwoo examined his face,

"You have new cuts and bruises... Did you fight?"

Mingyu's answer was silence.

The two stared at each other, both of them not really knowing what to say.

"Mingyu-ah... About last week." Mingyu's eyes darkened at the topic,

"He kissed me. I swear to God I didn't kiss back, and I swear I would never kiss anyone but you." he pleaded, desperately.

"And, honestly, ignoring me for a week was kind of harsh. Do you know how I worried was about you? I even went to the base to find you. I texted and called you and you hadn't shown your face for a week."

"So then why are you clarifying this misunderstanding?"

"The same reason why you were so damn hurt by the misunderstanding."

Mingyu looked at the floor of the cart,

"Did you really have to ignore me? For a week? You even left me alone with Jaesuk...." Wonwoo looked at his shoes.

"Because I'm stupid." Mingyu finally spoke.

"Because I'm an idiot, because I'm scared of losing you, because I'm so insecure when it comes to things involving you. Because I like you.", he told truthfully.

"And, I already told you not to go to the base.. What if you got hurt?"

"But I didn't, and it was worth a chance going to see if you were there."

The couple sat in awkward silence.

"Wonwoo-ah... You know that I like you, right?"

Wonwoo nodded at the words, scared of what might come next.

"Okay, come closer, I have a secret to tell you."

As their cart got to the top of the ferris wheel, Wonwoo brought his face closer to Mingyu's, listening intently. Their faces met in the middle, and Wonwoo said,

"So, what's your secret? Did you cheat on me?!"

His worries were hushed when Mingyu kissed him passionately on the lips. The kiss conveying all emotions of longing, guilt, and love.

"I ing missed you.", the taller whispered, Wonwoo felt his breath as their faces were still close together.

"And, I'm sorry."

The Ferris Wheel ride ended, and the couple got off hand in hand, Mingyu kissing the top of Wonwoo's head every few seconds, reminding him that his love was still there. The reunited couple decided to walk to their booth, and was greeted by Jaesuk.

"I'll play a round." Mingyu said, grabbing one of the hoops. He looked at Wonwoo and winked, saying

"Choose the prize when I win, 'kay?"

And, he did win. Wonwoo chose a stuffed Koala that reminded him of Mingyu, since he slept a lot.

Jaesuk handed the plushie to Mingyu, and said

"You look attractive."

Mingyu smirked and said,

"Yup. Get on my level if you're going to forcefully kiss my boyfriend."

Then Mingyu wrapped his arm around his boyfriend's neck, and the two started walking away, laughing and talking.

Every Fall Fair was fun... but this year, the fair was a little more special.

Chapter 36: Hai Zen! I spent a few days to finish this story. And I realllyyyyy love this!!! How the story goes sweetly, then comes the problem that makes me a little scared when Mingyu fights. I like the portrayal of Wonwoo's character. It doesn't feel forced, just flows naturally. And I'm reading this in 2022 which made it easy for me to match their young and current images. Lastly, thank you for presenting a beautiful story!!
And, I was wondering where is Seungkwan? I didn't find him in every chapter. Just curious.
