LockSeungHyun threw his phone on the bed out of frustration. What business did they have with his life, when they were the ones that kicked him out of the house? And now they're demanding him to attend family reunions. This was just too much.
He walked out of the room and back into the living room, hoping to find SoRa comfort him with her usual warm voice. But instead, he found her sitting soullessly on the floor, back against the couch, staring blankly at the clock.
"Oppa..." she quietly called. "Why does time have to pass? Why can't we just stay like this forever?" she weakly protested.
"...I don't know. Why does it have to pass?" SeungHyun asked back, also looking up at the clock.
It was as if they were watching a timer count down to an end that was approaching, secretly sneaking up behind their backs. And the catch was, that no one knew when this timer would go off. It could happen any second, right now even.
"You can.... Go find someone if you want to, oppa," SoRa finally said. SeungHyun snapped his head in her direction, and she stared right back to his dark orbs. Her eyes lacked the usual brightness or the usual passion.
"What.... do you mean?" SeungHyun asked after swallowing. He didn't have a good feeling about this.
"I mean, you can find someone.... someone normal if you want to," SoRa answered, more clearly this time. "It's going to be hard once I go deaf. So if you don't want to stay-"
"Who said you were going deaf?" SeungHyun interrupted sharply. His voice was cold. "It's not 100% that you're going deaf, and I'm not going to leave you. Even if you go deaf, even if I have to live the rest of my life working my off, even if our lives are going to be hard, I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying with you." He glared, yet his eyes were pleading and begging her not to do this.
SoRa's eyes wavered, but regained its strength. "No, oppa. There's no need for you to suffer. You shouldn't suffer. You can't. Not for me anymore. You need to live for yourself," she insisted, now standing up.
"Are saying that you should suffer, then? Is that what you want?" he questioned, and then chuckled without emotions. "I'm staying with you because I want to, not because I'm forced to. I chose you to be with. You know I have to finish what I started." SoRa shook her head sideways, denying what he was saying.
He stepped closer, close enough to put his hand on her small shoulder. "Why are you being like this? Let's stay positive, alright? You're good at that. Where'd that happy SoRa go?" he nearly begged. He could feel her shoulders shaking.
"How can I stay positive when I know the rest of my life is going to be a mess?! I can't drag you into it, oppa. You've done far more than enough for me. Please.... I don't want you to suffer anymore," she cried.
SeungHyun tightened his grip on her shoulder. "Why can't you understand that I want to do this? I want to be dragged into this," he argued.
"But everyone who offered that left me!" SoRa's voice cracked. "I'm scared.... That you are going to leave me one day as well... So if you're going to leave me anyway, do it now.... Before I ask for more... Unless you're certain that you can stay with me."
SoRa searched for an answer in SeungHyun's eyes. They were wondering, it was obvious. SoRa sensed his response, and covered her face with her hands as she sank back down onto the carpet, letting out a soft cry. SeungHyun's arm dropped to his side, now that it lost a place to rest on.
He rounded his hands into fists, gripping so tightly his nails almost dug into his skin.
"....Fine," he spoke. "If you want me to leave that much, then I will. I'll live for myself, as you wish."
He walked towards the door and shuffled around, putting his shoes on. He turned the knob after hesitating for a second.
The door closed dry behind his back.
The clock grew more intimidating, although it became more faint at each tick.
