I watched the hand on the clock moving round slowly, scrunching up my face as I tried to work out how long it was until New Year. Jongin and I were at the Oh’s house, all stuffing our faces with food and spending the majority of the night talking about this and that and playing meaningless games to pass the time until the big countdown would start.

“Two hours, twelve minutes,” I looked to my right to see Luhan holding up his phone which displayed a clock with the sole purpose of letting you know when the magic hour would strike.

“Thanks,” I smiled, glad that I wouldn’t have to stay in that facial position much longer. I looked around the room to spot Jongin talking with Kris and another small man I hadn’t met before. He had small, feline eyes and was a lot shorter than the blonde Chinese male he was linking arms with. I guessed they were together from the way they looked at held each other, it was rather cute. Grabbing my glass of champagne, I made my way over to the couple and my boyfriend to see what they were talking about.

“And then I have a meeting with Jinki on Thursday to discuss the photoshoots,” It sounded like they were talking about work and other bits that I wasn’t involved in anymore. Kris was the boss of the company Jongin worked for, who we met through Luhan and who offered Jongin the job as model/dancer he has now. I slipped my arm through Jongin’s as soon as I reached them and smiled at the two people also in the conversation.

“Hello Taemin,” Kris greeted me and I waved back, still looking at the smaller male with curiosity in my eyes. “This is Byun Baekhyun, my partner,” Kris sounded very protective over this ‘Baekhyun’ so all I did was reach forward and shake his hand. He was rather dainty and his hands were very feminine compared to Kris who could sometimes be quite rough when greeting people.

“Nice to meet you,” I smiled politely before we went back to listening to the conversation the boys were having before I arrived.

“Hi,” I jumped slightly when a small voice greeted me from behind. Turning around I was met with the sight of Baekhyun standing timidly in the doorway of the Oh’s kitchen. I sent him a smile before beckoning him into the room.

“Can I get you anything to drink?” I asked, pointing to the row of various colourful bottles lining the kitchen surface. Baekhyun just let out a little snort before picking up the coke and carefully pouring himself a glass.

“It’s nice to finally meet you Taemin. Kris often talks about you a Jongin,” he said as he took a sip from the cup, eyes not leaving my face. The air around us was slightly awkward, tension floating in bubbles around the two of us. I just nodded, returning the compliment before Luhan waltzed in. He stopped, frozen, for a moment before going back to his usual self.

“Baekhyun,” he greeted awkwardly. “Taemin can you come and help me a moment,” Luhan asked before taking hold of my arm and dragging me from the room. A scowl made its way to my face as I was yanked through the house and set in the sitting room on one of the sofas. Luhan didn’t utter a word as he walked away, confusion plastered on my face.

“How’s it for you Tae?” Jongin asked as he slid into a seat by me. The clock on the wall read 11:32pm, less than half an hour until the countdown would begin. I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t excited but I knew I was at an ‘adult’ party and could go slip into pj’s, ready to make out with my man.

“Good but what’s up with Luhan and Baekhyun?” I pondered as I reached up to Jongin’s head and sorted out his ruffled hair. He smiled gratefully as I fixed the strands that stuck out in random places and directions before pecking me on the cheek. “You already know baby,” he said before taking a sip of what I could only assume to be beer.

“Kris is Luhan’s ex, Kris is with a new guy; Luhan is jealous,” Jongin explained. Immediately it all clicked into place and I snorted causing Jongin to glance at me with a somewhat worried expression.

“Luhan purposefully dragged me away from Baekhyun, poor boy. I guess he really is jealous. Though, he has Sehun now,” I stated.

“You think I’m jealous?” Luhan’s voice made me jump when I the spot to see him glaring at me. “For the record, I’m over Kris – I was long ago - And I have Sehun now.” I looked at Jongin with an amused expression when the Diva stormed away to the other side of the room with a pout on his features, whining to his smashed boyfriend.

“Ok, ready everyone?” Luhan shouted across the already quiet crowd. I reached down to my side and grasped Jongin’s hand in my own, giving it a little squeeze before sending him a small smile. “This year has been special. Everyone has had their own adventure that has taken them through ups and downs. Let’s hope that next year ca-“

“Let’s go Lu,” Everyone laughed when Luhan’s supposedly heart-warming speech was cut off by his impatient boyfriend who was looking at a digital clock with a lot of precision.

“Everyone outside.” There was a loud clamour at the command as every guest at the party headed out into the large garden, standing on the patio as Sehun ran into the dark with a torch. We all waited with excitement as Luhan checked over everything one more time and received the signal from his boyfriend.

“10 ... 9 ... 8 ... 7 ... 6 ... 5 ...” I felt Jongin pull me closer to him, the cold beginning to seep into our coats and make our bodies cold.

“4 ... 3 ...” Jongin spun me round so his chest was against my back, pulling me as close as I could get to him. I smiled as I shouted, snuggling closer into him.

“2 ... 1 ...” And with that, numerous fireworks shot into the air, exploding in an aray of colours and making the whole sky a carpet of sparkling diamonds. ‘Ohhs’ and ‘Ahhs’ rang out through the crowd as more rockets followed, explosions going off left and right. I turned around in my boyfriend’s arms, standing on my tip toes and planting a kiss right on his soft and plump lips.

“Happy New Year.”
