Chapter 17 – “Copy”
“I don’t care.” I fired.
“Well, me too.” He answered, unaffected.
It was after a minute when I finally mustered the courage to ask him who he really was.
“Every time we see each other, you keep on asking me. Aren’t you tired?” he asked.
“Of course not. This has something to do with me. My life. You know something very important. Something that would make me… whole.” I managed to say.
“So, who are you?” I asked him again.
“I can’t… I can’t tell you right now.” He told me.
“And why? It matters to me. If you only knew.” I said as I tried to hide my disappointment.
“Knew what?” he asked curiously.
“Oh, nothing.” I said defensively.
“I’m leaving for Japan tomorrow. Thought you ought to know.” He told me after a minute of silence.
Japan… Tokyo. Wait? This is something familiar.
“Without even telling me your name?!” I said, half-irritated.
“Just don’t forget my face and you’ll remember me just fine.”
Our silence enveloped me into a warm environment. I don’t know how to describe it. I felt at ease with him. The silence was bearable. We felt like we don’t really have to look for words at all.
“We were friends before right?” I asked, breaking the silence.
“Uhh, yeah.” He answered, trying to hide something from me.
“Can you just tell me your name?” I asked him again.
“Why are you here?” he asked, changing the topic.
“Just because. Why are you changing the topic?”
“And who told you to come here?”
“Why are you changing the topic?!” I asked, irritated.
“Because I can’t tell you who I am.”
Those words finally made me realize that he was not a friend at all.
He was more than that.
