Asymptotes & Ellipses
Description
An asymptote is a line that continually approaches a given curve but does not meet it at any finite distance. In mathematics, an asymptote is a horizontal, vertical, or slanted line that a graph approaches but never touches. In analytic geometry, an asymptote of a curve is a line such that the distance between the curve and the line approaches zero as one or both of the x or y coordinates tends to infinity.
The ellipsis ..., . . ., or …, also known informally as dot-dot-dot, is a series of usually three dots that indicates an intentional omission of a word, sentence, or whole section from a text without altering its original meaning. The word (plural ellipses) originates from the Ancient Greek: ἔλλειψις, élleipsis meaning “leave out”.
The Monte Carlo fallacy or the fallacy of the maturity of chances is the incorrect belief that if a particular event occurs more frequently than normal during the past, it is less likely to happen in the future or vice versa. This particular belief occurs mostly in gambling games. For instance, if a ball landed on red in the game of roulette for ten consecutive times, one might think that it won’t land on red anymore. Or if the ball hasn’t landed on red for several times, one would believe that it will land on red next. In games of pure chance, each instance is a completely independent one; that is, each play has the same probability as each of the others of producing a given outcome.
Foreword
Hi! I’m back with another WheeSun fic. Please be good to me! Before starting the story, I wanted you to know a few things first:
1. English is not my first language. I apologize in advance for the errors in grammar and spelling.
2. I'm familiar with Korea's honorifics but I'm still not confident in using them. I'm using the common formalities (like miss or mister, etc).
3. The story will be divided into parts. There will be shifting of POV once the part changes. There are also be shifting of POVS within the chapters in the last part.
4. The descriptions above are directly from the sources I’ve read. I apologize for bringing math here but I decided to use the technical meaning of both asymptotes and ellipses since I'll be relating it metaphorically to the story. That's how I came up with this story in the first place. The third description is also somehow related to the story. I'm just laying it down there so I don't have to explain it anymore by the time I bring it up. I think it's time I bring something a little bit from my field, but I promise you, the story has nothing to do with math or remotely related to it.
5. Disclaimer on the use of ellipses. I’ve been using ellipses correctly and would intentionally use them wrongly. I write my drafts using Google Docs and the dash (-) won’t automatically change into an em dash (—) when writing interrupted spoken words in between quotations, unlike in MS Word. It’s so frustrating and tiring having to repeatedly copy an em dash from the web and paste it when I’m in need of it. I’ve been using ellipses (…) instead even though I know it’s wrong. Please don’t follow what I was doing. Some of my ellipses are just disguising to be an em dash.
6. Any names, places, and stories similar to this or to the things mentioned in the fic are purely COINCIDENTAL. Everything is just the product of my imagination and is purely a work of FICTION.
Hopefully you'll enjoy the story! Thank you!
