chapter VI: happy
the aster and the sunflower.Freedom.
Freedom was what Jennie felt as she lifted her hands up as she freely squealed as she let the cool breeze rush through her, Lisa chuckled at her probably thinking how crazy Jennie was as of the moment but Jennie didn’t care. She liked this feeling; the foldable hood of Lisa’s car was down and they were driving at just the right amount of speed through the streets of New York City, lights from buildings and restaurants came flashing at them, the moon was also at its brightest whilst the stars shined outstandingly. Jennie felt like she was in those old school films, New York suddenly felt like the 60’s, and she wouldn’t really be surprised if people from their homes would burst out in a song.
“Fly Me To The Moon” then came on the stereo, making Jennie shake her head as she saw how wide Lisa’s smile.
“One of my favorite songs” Lisa pointed out as she sang along and Jennie must say, Lisa’s voice is really good, it was unique and it could somehow make you stop and just stare at her as you listen to her beautiful voice.
“My Dad used to sing it to me every night before I went to sleep” Lisa said
“Ah so I see your Dad influenced you on being an old soul” Jennie said with a smile
“Oh yeah, it was only last year that he told me we were living in the 21st century” Lisa joked
Jennie then noticed where they were going, it was a drive-in cinema, and Jennie couldn’t help but smirk at Lisa’s ideas, the Thai literally took Jennie on an old school date. Jennie smiled as she saw dozens of cars parked and families and squads spread out on the grass with their picnic baskets and blankets. Lisa then got out of the car and opened the trunk revealing a picnic basket and a red and white checkered blanket.
“Lisa Manoban, are you planning to sweep me off my feet?” Jennie asked as she got out of the car
Lisa chuckled as she placed the blanket on the grass and carefully took out the sandwiches and Korean Yogurt Smoothies (AKA Yakult, es). Lisa stood up victoriously as she grinned at Jennie.
“Why? Is it working?” Lisa asked as she wiggled her eyebrows at her
“Maybe…” Jennie said as she sat down and leaned her back against Lisa’s car, Lisa sat down as well and handed Jennie the sandwich she made.
“It’s good to know I’ve got a chance” Lisa said as she leaned back
“What movie’s gonna play?” Jennie asked
“Titanic” Lisa stated
“You’re kidding, right?” Jennie deadpanned
Lisa laughed.
“Yes, I’m kidding. But how dare you degrade ‘Titanic’, it was an iconic film that didn’t get Leo his Oscar” Lisa said
“I’ve watched it a thousand times” Jennie said
“I thought you didn’t like watching romantic movies?” Lisa asked
“Yeah and you said you didn’t like tragedies” Jennie said
“Titanic isn’t that much of a tragedy, it’s a love story” Lisa said
“, people died” Jennie said straight to the point, and Lisa laughed out loud
“It’s a good thing we’re watching ‘La La Land’ instead of Titanic” Lisa said
“I have never watched that but I’m guessing it’s a Romance film?” Jennie asked
“Maybe, it could also be a tragedy” Lisa said as she shrugged
Jennie then took a bite of her sandwich, and her eyes glistened as she savored the ham and cheese sandwich Lisa made.
“This is good” Jennie said as she closed her eyes and chewed happily
“Thanks, my Dad taught me everything I know” Lisa joked
“How about your father? Did he ever drag you into liking Star Wars or Action Movies?” Lisa asked whilst they waited for the movie to start, Jennie’s mood suddenly shifted, Lisa noticed this every time she asks about her family.
“He’s a doctor, he’s usually on call 24/7 you know? But um…we spent a great amount of time during my childhood, he was there during important moments like graduation, science fairs, spelling bees and even those useless PTA meetings” Jennie said, Lisa simply nodded as she urged the girl to go on
“Well he originally wanted me to become a doctor, so he usually brought me with him to work, I basically grew up knowing tons of medical related stuff…IV insertion, what DNR means, blood transfusion, I was given all these information without second thoughts…but I…I don’t like it.” Jennie said, Lisa remained quiet as she le
