chapter XVI: safe haven
the aster and the sunflower.Heaven’s gift.
Children who were left alone in the streets, abandoned by their parents, disowned by their own mother, abused by their fathers, cursed by their aunts and uncles, left alone to suffer life, and sent off to orphanages. They are heaven’s gift.
Jennie never met her biological parents, she knew nothing about her mother and she was told her father had died in a car accident thus leaving her an orphan at the age of 2. Images of her father were blurry, she could not really picture out his features nor could she remember the sound of his voice, let alone remember anything about him. She was then sent off to a crammed orphanage in Korea, a child who was barely 2 was stuck in an orphanage that was going bankrupt, not having enough money to pay off their debts and buy new clothes of the new orphans. It was a hellhole.
But Christmas day was when Mr. and Mrs. Kim visited the orphanage; Jennie was playing alone by the sandbox whilst the older kids played in the swings and seesaws, Jennie was wearing an old ragged pink dress and she was barefoot, her hair tousled and her face smudged with mud and sand. She was 4 years old when the Kim’s knelt down in front of her and asked her if she wanted them to be her parents. It was only then that it felt like hell had a miracle.
Jennie Kim was then faced with a new life. Free of financial difficulty, free from lack of food and other physiological needs. Jennie Kim spent her first night of Christmas in a huge mansion in Seoul, Korea; she was met with dozens of relatives who seemed to be so amused of her. They liked her eyes, and that’s what she remembers the most, others liked her gummy smile while others found her okay. She was the first adopted child in the Kim family; they had mixed emotions about it but had accepted her nonetheless. It was a newfound heaven for Jennie Kim.
But the last Christmas she spent with her family was the end of Jennie’s miracle, for she was once again disowned, abandoned and left alone to suffer life. It was as if she was sent back into that crammed up orphanage, where she spent her days alone, not minding other people, not hoping someone would pick her and love her. It was hell all over again.
But then she met Lisa. It was like she was finally picked again, she was chosen to be loved by someone who seeks the same need. And Jennie allowed herself to be detached from the loneliness that she felt as she latched on to happiness. This time she’s blessed to have Lisa, and as well as Rosé and Jisoo. Who knew miracles happened twice?
And who would’ve thought her second miracle were a bunch of crackheads.
“Are you a penguin?” Rosé asked
Jisoo, Rosé, Lisa and Jennie were seated around the Christmas tree in Floraison, it was nearing 11 in the evening and everyone was laughing so hard as Jisoo was trying to imitate a chicken maybe or a goose, they were yet to find out.
“Are you an ostrich?!” Lisa asked, Jisoo shook her head and continued to stumble down on the floor as she flapped her chicken wings furiously
“Chicken!” Jennie yelled, again Jisoo shook her head as she cawed and cawed
“Goose?” Lisa asked
“No!” Jisoo yelled
“Are you a phoenix rising from the ashes?!” Jennie exclaimed
“That was a good one but no” Jisoo said
“Blue Macaw!” Rosé exclaimed, Jisoo then nodded happily and jumped up and down
“That’s my girl!” Jisoo exclaimed, making the Aussie a blushin
