chapter III: backstories and presents
the aster and the sunflower.Walls.
4 corners of the walls surrounded the girl as she sat down on her game chair in her office, her eyes focused solely on the computer screens in front of her, ignoring any phone calls, knocks, and obnoxious co-workers. Once she finally types in the right codes and keys, she leans back on her chair and lets out a sigh; she’s been working for 5 hours straight, only going for a bathroom break twice and barely eating lunch; this has been Jennie Kim’s life for the past 3 years.
Jennie had surrounded herself with walls; literally and figuratively. The 25 year old has locked herself up in the comfort of her room during her childhood and teenage days; she had a fair few friends, only ones whom she can truly trust. She had finished Computer Science at NYU and had gone on to be a game developer, her lifetime dream. Ever since Jennie Kim joined the science fair she had been hooked with the idea of inventing things, and when she was taught on how to create simple games on computer, she was instantly amazed and she knew she would be in it for a long time.
Jennie did have quite a great childhood, she was part of a wealthy family which meant she could get whatever she pleases and her parents were lucky because all Jennie ever would ask for were newly released video games. Things went quite well in her teenage years, she mostly isolated herself from people but she has earned some friends nonetheless.
This was her life.
“Jennie Unnie, it’s nearly 4 pm already” Dahyun said as she poked her head inside Jennie’s office, the older girl simply nodded and saved her work and shut down all of her devices.
Jennie then walked her way home, it was a solid 5 minute walk and she didn’t mind it really, she’s been way too engrossed with work and technology that she often forgot that the world existed, that nature was still alive, people still walked the streets and everyone had a life of their own. Once she arrived at her apartment, Jennie walked straight to her room and changed into some sweats and her favorite Big Bang Theory shirt, she then slipped on some white sneakers, and she adjusted her glasses and grabbed her wallet and phone and went out of her apartment once again.
Jennie then walked her way to Floraison. It was a short walk so Jennie arrived quickly; she opened the door and was met with the sweet scent of flowers and coffee whilst an unfamiliar old song played on the shop’s old musical contraption.
“Good Afternoon, Miss Sunflowers”
Jennie saw Lisa Manoban, which she assumed as to be the owner of the flower shop, today she was wearing a baby blue off shoulder top paired with black skinny jeans and sandals, her honey blonde hair was let loose today and it rested on her shoulders, she smiled at Jennie and it made the game developer’s heart flutter a bit.
“Afternoon, Old Soul” Jennie said “You too, Rosie” she added as she noticed the other tall person by the counter who was smiling at her
“Good afternoon” Rosé said
“So what makes you come here every day?” Lisa asked, Jennie smirked as she shook her head, the girl was very much persistent
“So nosy of you, Manoban” Jennie said
“Just curious” Lisa replied as she smiled again
“I see you still have a slightly bloody arm” Jennie said as she pointed at Lisa’s slightly reddish arm
“It wouldn’t come off, it’s been a week now” Lisa said
Jennie chuckled as she realized she has been coming here for quite some time now, she’s been practically having so many small talks with Lisa and Rosie that she doesn’t even realize that she’s grown so much to the shop. And truth be told, Jennie loves Lisa’s shop, it brought out some sort of happiness towards Jennie, though she has been to tons of flower shops, only Floraison made her keep coming back, well that and the fact that her sister loves sunflowers and Floraison’s was much nearer than other flower shops.
“So for who are those sunflowers for?” Lisa asked
“Why are you so interested?” Jennie asked jokingly
“Is it for your girlfriend?” Lisa asked seriously, and she looked so defeated it made Jennie laugh out loud, making Rosé jump up a bit.
“I don’t have a girlfriend” Jennie said
“A boyfriend then?” Lisa asked
“I’m single, Lisa” Jennie said with a little smile on her face
“You just said my name for the first time” Lisa said, Jennie just shook her head as she grabbed 2 stems of sunflowers and gave it to Rosé to wrap it
“If you won’t tell me who they’re for then you can at least tell me your name?” Lisa asked as she smiled sweetly at Jennie, hoping to get her to admit, but Jennie won’t fall for it.
“Maybe some other day” Jennie said as she paid for the flowers and made her way out and went back home to drive to her parents’ mansion
…
“Unnie!” a little girl named Ella yelled as she scrambled on he
