Chapter 17
The One I Can't Live WithoutWord Count: 2002
Swinging open the door to the rooftop, Jisoo saw Mina sitting on one of the benches there waiting for her. In all of her time at the school, Jisoo had never gone to the rooftop. She had never had any reason to. being there for the first time, she couldn't help but be in awe. From the rooftop you could see the vast green soccer field where many students were already playing a game. Past the gates, you could see the roofs of the houses near by the school. The houses all seemed to be different colors, contrasting with the light blue sky which drew Jisoo's attention to the beauty of it. Her attention on it didn't remain for long becasue Mina had seen her.
"Oh, you really came?" There was a sense of shock that was in her voice, as if she had expected Jisoo not to come.
Jisoo nodded and walked over taking a seat next to Mina on the bench. She didn't really say anything in response. Walking up the flight of stairs to the roof, Jisoo had come to the conclusion that she would let Mina do the talking. That way, she didn't have to stress so much about what to say. She stared at the smile on Mina's face, waiting for her to continue speaking. Mina didn't disappoint. Soon after she had first spoken, she opened once again.
"I was kind of worried that you weren't going to show up. I mean, I know I asked you to come and you said that you would, but considering that by now you probably know that Taehyung and I have broken up, I wasn't sure if you would be willing to talk to me after that. I was kind of worried, I'm not gonna lie, that you would be upset with me. I'm happy that your not. Sorry, I'm rambling aren't I? I'll stop. Anyway, I'm really glad you're here," Mina rambled.
Jisoo had to force back a smile. She had always found it humorous when someone rambled. The amount of words and the trememndously fast rate at which a person spoke while doing so was something that she could never understand. Perhaps because she, herself, was someone who used words very sparingly, never saying more than she felt was necessary. Even if a part of her felt like she was in a way betraying Taehyung by speaking to Mina after she had broken up with him, she couldn't deny that Mina was someone that was easy to get along with. It was kind of hard to hate her, almost impossible. Seeing her now, Jisoo could almost understand why Taehyung had liked her so much. Seeing her so out of breath from her rambling, Jisoo decided to step in.
"Breathe," Jisoo reminded her.
Taking a deep breath, Mina smiled. Her smile seemed to be going from ear to ear, like she was genuinely happy that Jisoo had shown up to see her. Jisoo realized she hadn't seen Mina smile in a while. That made Jisoo wonder about how Mina was handling the breakup. Ever since she first started at this school, we were really the only friends that I had seen her hanging out with. Since her and Taehyung started dating so soon after they met, she almost became a part of our group. Now, that her and Taehyung have broken up, she hasn't really been hanging out with any of the other students.
Her thoughts made her frown. Jisoo might not know Mina very well and she might have been jealous of Mina's relationship with Taehyung, but that didn't mean that she didn't want the girl to not have any friends. She knew how important friendship was and so she wanted Mina to have that as well. She knew that even though Mina had been the one to break up with Taehyung, she had liked him a lot. Jisoo couldn't help but feel slightly guilty when she thought about how the girl in front of her had interpreted her and Taehyung's friendship and how that had hurt her. Even so, she was smiling.
"I wanted to talk to you about Taehyung," Mina's was no longer rambling.
"What about him?" As Jisoo spoke, she couldn't help but be slightly nervous, her guard going up around her.
This is what Jisoo had been trying to avoid all day. All of her thinking about what could be boiled down to this very moment. No more what if's, it was the moment of truth. Jisoo didn't know what to expect. She didn't have any time to mentally prepare herself before Mina started speaking once more.
"I wanted to say I'm sorry about taking him from you," Mina's voice was gentle as she spoke.
Jisoo on the other hand was very confused. What is she apologizing fo
