The Phone Call
For The Love of DanceWith Youngjae's permission and now knowing that he was definitely awake, you went ahead and called him. You weren't really sure why you wanted to call him, maybe there was something calming about hearing your best friends voice. Of course there was the fact that you told him everything as well, and he was the first person you would go to talk about everything. Having had some drinks it might not have been the best idea, but you went ahead with it anyway.
He picked up almost instantly, "Hey, what's up?" he sounded sleepy and you started to feel bad for ringing him at this hour.
"Not much," you replied, you were both whisper talking, not wanting to wake up the rest of your family, "I ended up going out with Junhong for his birthday, I just got home. He got a taxi with me and he took me home." the words were just coming out of your mouth.
He just laughed a little bit, "Have you been drinking then?" he already knew. you replied with a shy 'yes', "did you do something stupid that I should know about?" why did he assume that?
"No," you started defensively, "...maybe.." he laughed again, struggling to keep quiet, "When we said goodbye, we hugged, but I didn't let go of him. What's wrong with me, Youngjae?" You knew how you felt about Junhong, but you were still struggling to come to terms with it, worrying every second of the way.
Youngjae laughed quieter this time, "Nothing is wrong with you, Rina, you just really, really like him." he didn't need to tell you twice, you were aware.
"I know." you said before a short silence was shared between you, "thanks for never judging me, Youngjae. Thank you for always being a great friend." was this the alchol starting to talk? you weren't sure, but it felt nice to tell him how much you appreciated him.
"That's okay." he said very sincerely, he wasn't laughing anymore.
"I love you." the words came out of your mouth so easily, and it was because the words were true. Love never meant anything more than a deep respect and appreciation of a person, it wasn't weird for you to say it, he was like your brother. This was best friend love. You were still worried by the time it took him to say something back.
"I love you too." hearing the words come from his mouth made you feel warm inside, your eyes started to tear up a bit, but you held them back telling yourself it was stupid and the alcohol was still in control of all your actions.
You took a deep breath in before changing the subject, that was all you wanted to say to him anyway, "You sound tired, I should let you sleep. Sorry for waking you up, but thanks for the chat."
He chuckled a little again, "Don't ever apologise for calling me, it's okay. You should definitely sleep too."
"Okay. I will, goodnight, Youngjae."
"Goodnight, Rina. Sleep well." his voice grew more and more tired with each word.
"Bye."
"Bye."
You took the phone away from your ear, pressing the button to hang up the phone. You let out a deep sigh as you threw the phone on your bed, and collapsing into it moments later. It was nice to have had this conversation with Youngjae, but part of you wished he had been there in the flesh. You didn't get too worked up about it, knowing you would see him at school on Monday anyway.
