Chapter Thirteen: Lies

(A/N: This chapter is lame, it sums up all the giddy things that happens before the competition and it was all fast forwarded, it’ll be short and hateful)

Walking down the street where I saved Jungkook from almost getting hit by a car felt Deja vu to the both of us. We were on the other side of the street and my gaze was fixed at the other side of the street, reminiscing that night. It hasn't been awhile yet there are many changes that happened to me, and to Jungkook. My mind was set with the fact Jungkook and I will never be as close as we are now. Now, he was holding on to my hand like I am a little kid that is fearing to get lost. With his hand intertwined to mine, I felt secured and comfortable. My heart beat is incredibly faster than it usually was and I am sure I am not near to getting tired yet.

Walking farther, we arrived in front of an old building that seems to be abandoned for a very long time. We stood in front of it for a couple of seconds and decided to enter it. Before we could take our tenth step, I held Jungkook’s hand firmly, stopping him. “Why are we entering this place?”

He smiled at me, “Don’t worry, nothing bad will happen to you, I promise.”

Promises were meant to be broken but this time I trusted Jungkook. We entered the abandoned building and went up using the stairs. There were a lot of profanities and vandalisms on the wall that may be written by people who tend to go here, perhaps Jungkook was one of them?

Arriving at the highest floor, which is the sixth and the rooftop, I saw the beautiful view of Seoul, it was still daytime yet the view was surreal. Jungkook let go of my hand as I kept myself busy with watching the scenery. I looked around to see a mess. The place was full of papers and lanterns that were drenched in the rain. I wonder what happened here. Before I could turn back to the view I was looking at, Jungkook placed his hands to cover my eyes. “J-Jungkook, what are you doing?”

Chuckling, he said, “I have a surprise for you. I’m guiding you, don’t worry.”

I kept quiet as Jungkook instructed me the directions. Turn back, forward, forward, turn left, forward, forward, and stop. I think we entered as very packed place because I felt like I stepped on some stuffs. Jungkook kept his hand on my face, and I felt it was getting colder. “Jungkook, you should take your hands now, I think.”

“Y-Yes.” He stuttered, for the very first time. “When you this, I hope you won’t laugh at me, or something.”

“Or something.” I giggled, “Come on, take it o-”

I was in awe as my eyes opened and saw the most beautiful I ever saw at the moment. This was the first surprise that I ever got from someone and from Jungkook and it was the best thing ever. The room wasn’t that bright. Jungkook closed the door and there are small lanterns lighting up the room, making the room a little dim and pretty at the same time. There were pink and white balloons floating on the ceiling and there were shining because of the lanterns. On the floor were more balloons, making me feel like swimming in a sea of balloons as I moved forward. In the middle of the room was a table, where there is a cake- it was a small cake designed with flower icings. The candles weren’t lighted yet, I counted it and it was eighteen. “Jungkook, what is all of this?”

I turned and saw Jungkook, holding a white tulip, walking towards me. On cue, the slow music played and it sounded like we are going to dance for prom. If the lights were totally bright, Jungkook might have seen how I am blushing. But, I still don’t understand what is going on. He stood in front of me, handing me the tulip as he explained, “There was one night when we were walking home, and we suddenly talked about birthdays, you told me you never celebrate your birthdays recently.”

It hit me, we are celebrating my birthday, today.

Jungkook looked down, as if he was so embarrassed with what he did, “I just felt like celebrating one’s birthday is very important for everyone, especially to a lady like you. I know this is not some kind of birthday celebration anyone would like. Only two people around, secluded place, abandoned building as a venue, not a grand cake, but-”

I shushed him by hugging him and told him, “This is what I have been wanting for all this time, you outdid my expectations, you did much better. Thank you.”

Jungkook froze on his spot, like it was his first time to be hugged by a girl. I pulled away as I stared at him with tears on my eyes, “You have no idea how you made me feel so important, even for just one day.”

Jungkook laughed as we wiped my tears, “But you are important.” He bowed down, like in fairytales, as he extended his hand, “In Western culture, young girls who turns eighteen are being introduced to the society by debut, and they dance…” he looked at me, “Can we dance?”

“I don’t know how to dance.” I laughed in between the sobs.

“I’ll be your guide, I told you don’t have to worry about it.” He said, taking my hands as he placed it on his shoulders and placed his hands around my waist. We started to move in sync with the slow music, trying to act as if we were dressed in gown and tux, as if people were looking at us in jealousy. We were looking at each other’s eyes. He was smiling, feeling satisfied, and so was I. I never thought Jungkook did all of this just to see me smile and to celebrate my birthday that has passed a month ago. This man does all of the things that makes me feel loved and likeable.

I think I am starting to see Jungkook as a man.

After that day, everything seemed to change between me and Jungkook. No one knew about the surprise he gave me but only the two of us. The change that I was referring to is how the two of us were suddenly inseparable. Jungkook fetched me this morning and we walked to school together. Hae Ra was earlier than the two of us and she saw us entering the classroom together, I saw the look in her eyes, but for now, I don’t really want to care about her. All I care about is Jungkook, and everything that we’ve been through before getting into this situation.
