(SH) Chapter 7

Contestant Number 1 and 2

I hopped on the bus, this time alone. I sat in the back, dazed out, looking through the window. A sudden whack on the back of my head made my forehead smack against the window. I whined in pain, turning around to blame someone.

“Taemi,” I smiled upwards, holding my forehead with one hand, and the back of my head with the other. “Why hit me?” I pouted, wiggling about in my seat.

You gave me Tao’s number, not yours!” She huffed sitting down next to me with her arms crossed.

“Oops?”

Wrong number!”

“I know.”

“You know what I said or you know that you gave me the wrong number?”

“I know.” I have no idea what shes saying. She shook her head clutching the sides of her head in frustration. The girl took out her phone and in the next second she was shoving a Google translation in my face.

“Ohhh,” I laughed a bit, “Google.” Trying to make out the poor translation and a Chinese response, I paused for a moment. “I did purpose”

“You did on purpose?” I nodded enthusiastically, I was pretty close this time.

Why would you even do that!” She whined, stomping her feet lightly. I just shrugged, hopping I could get away with this. I poked at her side and TaeMi just glares at me, I probably wasn’t going to get off easy.

Sorry, I fix?” I held out my hand for her phone. She grudgingly retrieved her phone and passed it to me, tapping her foot impatiently. I opened her contacts, after struggling through the Chinese, changed what I previously had put as my number to Tao’s name and added my own contact, this time putting my number in.

Phone uh broken now, but I will get fixed!” I grinned, mentally patting myself on the back.

Your phone’s broken? Ahh okay.” TaeMi nodded and received the phone back from me, checking my work this time, she put the phone away. “Time for class Sehun.” The girl strutted off, and I followed closely behind, still a little confused by the massive white washed school.

---------------------

I walked into the cafeteria, clutching a hand made lunch made by Auntie Huang,as she was worried the school lunches would make me even thinner, and looked around for Tao’s friends.

I spotted the giant Kris and surrounding him the Chinese and Korean friends. I hopped over, giddily, and plopped down next to Lay and Chen.

“Where is Tao?” Chen didn’t even look up from his math homework. I took out my sandwhich,

“He’s home sick, for some reason the weirdo was out in the rain last night.”

“Why the heck would he want to do that?” Luhan asked, seated across from me, mouth half full.

“He blames me, but it’s not like I made him go out in the rain at 1 in the freaking morning.” I shoved my food in my mouth.

Practice your Chinese.” Kris looked up from his phone, sounding like a nagging mother. He must have gotten his phone replaced already, Tao still owes me my new phone.

I practice when I want.” I paused in my eating long enough to stick my tongue out at him, not that he was paying attention anymore.

Nice grammar,” Chen commented, under his breath.

See I good!” I eye smiled.

“See, I am good.” Minseok mumbled in his sleep. Lay and Luhan started to laugh, high fiving across the table, while the rest just ignored the diss.

“Whatever.” I grumbled, polishing off my lunch. There was a light tap on my shoulder, interrupting my conversation about cheese with Lay, I turned to see a girl. I honestly had no idea who she was but I assumed she went here. The girl had her head down, falsely hiding her flush face, and was holding out a note.

For me?” I choked out, pointing towards myself. She nodded shyly, holding the note out more. I picked it from her hands lightly, for her just to run away as soon as I did. Behind me the boys were in complete silence, just watching.

“What just happened,” I turned around slowly in my seat. They stared at me wide-eyed. Even Minseok, who usually slept through everything, was looking shocked. It was like a twig snapped, and all of them started dying of laughter.

Luhan was wiping tears away from his eyes, Lay was lightly smacking his head against the table, also laughing. Kris was trying to smother his laughter with his abnormally large hands. Minseok was clutched over and Chen d at his stomach wildly leaning back. All of them laughing at my innocence and confusion.

Kris was the first to recover, trying to enlighten me through his still light laughter,

“It’s a confession note.” The boys went through another fit of laughter. My eye’s went the size of saucers as I peered down at the note,

“A confession note...” I mumbled to myself examining the item. I silently stood, still mesmerized by the pink piece of paper, and left the cackling boys. Tossing my trash away, I  made my out to the courtyard.

I sat down on a small rise, covered in soft green grass, I gazed at the item. It was the first time I had ever been confessed too. Not even in Korea, but that was most likely because my fan club kept most of them away.

I peeled the heart sticker holding the item closed, and unfolded the note. I paused,

“Stupid Chinese!” I groaned leaning back. A breeze went by making me shiver, but I relied on the sun, at it’s best, to warm me up. A shadow covered me, making me whine at the loss of heat.

Did you just call Chinese stupid?” A girls voice rung out. TaeMi, she just couldn’t get enough of me.

No… you no know Korean, you’re wrong.” I whined, causing her to scoff.

You no know Chinese,” She mocked, sitting down next to me. “What is this?” The girl plucked the letter from my grasp. At first I didn’t respond, but then I remembered, although I couldn’t read it, she could.

NO!” I ripped it out of TaeMi’s clutch. Holding it close to my chest, I looked at her flabbergasted, “Private!

Jeez, it’s not like you can read it. I bet your reading is worse than your speaking.” TaeMi leaned back, her hands holding her up. I paused, contemplating, I shoved the note at her.

Read.” TaeMi mumbled to herself, incoherently, in a mocking tone.

Alright pushy, it basically is asking you out.” I looked at her confused, “Date you, Sehun.”

“Ohhh no, no, no, I don’t want.” I put my hand out, shaking it and my head. TaeMi laughed at this action.

You have to tell her that.” She handed me back the note.

“I don’t know her.” I mumbled.

She is in the class next to ours.” TaeMi looked at the note and pointed to the signed name at the bottom.

I don’t know where.” I complained.

I’ll show you now, lunch is ending.” She stood up wiping her skirt. I stoop also looking about, everyone was making their way out of the lunch room. The two of us re-entered the building, weaving through the packed crowds towards our classroom. We stopped early.

She is in here, that one,” TaeMi pointed to the girl nervously wiggling around in her seat. Good thing she hadn’t spotted me yet, I still no idea how to let the girl down softly. Before TaeMi could get away, I grabbed her blazer by the pocket and dragged her with me to confront the girl. TaeMi tried to smack my hand to let herself free, but I held on tight, using her as my source courage.

Hello?” The girl in her seat looked up at me, causing TaeMi to hide behind me.

Sehun.” She breathed, becoming flustered. I bit my bottom lip, and gripped TaeMI’s blazer harder.

Sorry, I don’t want to date,” The girl’s mouth dropped, as if she was appalled at the fact someone wouldn’t want to date. I could feel TaeMi behind me, tugging at me to leave.

Oh,” She stood trying to look intimidating, but it didn’t work, see the fact that she didn’t even get close to reaching my shoulder. “Is it because of her,” the girl sneered, tilting her head at the girl huddling behind me.

I honestly didn’t know how to respond.

“Uhh no?” I looked everywhere but the girl’s eyes, TaeMi scrunched closer to my back, trying to hide.

Huh, TianMi? Did you put him up to this? Don’t think I can’t see you hiding behind him.” I was starting to become lost, but the girl in front of me’s tone got increasingly hostile causing me to shield TaeMi a bit. I could feel a sigh, from the girl huddling behind me, on my back. She let go of me and came out in front of me. Obviously the girl was being mean to TaeMi so I had no idea what possessed TaeMi to think coming out would help.

Even if I did, which I didn’t because I am not in that kind of relationship with Sehun, he would have rejected you anyway.” TaeMi, let it all out in one breath, almost yelling at the girl. I just watched not wanting to get hurt in the crossfire. The girl who had confessed to me early looked slightly flabbergasted but tried to play it off with a scoff, crossing her arms.

Sehun is too nice to be in a relationship with a like you,” from what I picked up, that sounded slightly like a compliment. “Lets go Sehun.” TaeMi whipped around, grabbing my wrist, and stormed out of the classroom.

Oh my gosh I can’t believe we used to be best friends,” the girl scoffed dragging me past our classroom. I could see our classmates settling down as the teacher smacked the podium for their attention. Well it seemed I would be skipping. Auntie would be upset but, I didn’t really feel in the mood to listen to the teacher speak gibberish, and from the looks of it, it seemed TaeMi wasn’t in the mood either.

We had to get out of the halls quickly before the hall monitors or a teacher caught us wandering, that was one thing I had found common in my old school and this one. TaeMi lead us upward, until she kicked open the door to the roof. So violent.

The girl still had a tight grip on my wrist when she plopped down on the roof, letting out a huff. I cleared my throat, gaining the girls attention, and looked to her hand around my arm. She gasped, turning a bit pink, and let go hastily. I chuckled.

“It’s not like I have a disease, jeez.” I mumbled, not even trying to communicate that across to the girl. TaeMi gave me a look, she probably understood the tone of my comment and could assume.

We sat quietly admiring the sky, the chill that would blow across us every once and a while, and mostly the overall warmth the sun bathed us in.

“TaeMi?” I called out after a while. She just hummed in responce, so I just continued, “Come over tonight?”

She sat upright, pointing to herself,

You want me to come over to your house? Sehun...” I interjected before she could get the wrong idea,

Tao sick, come with me.” TaeMi looked at me shocked, was I missing something?

He’s sick?” She persisted, I nodded. The girl’s face contorted into multiple different looks, that I could never hope to explain; worried, angry, sad, flustered, who knew.

You come?” TaeMi looked back up at me, this time I recognized determination flash across her face.

Yes.” Good now I can have her help me find my way back to Tao Hyung’s house. I smiled to myself, leaning back. Peering over I saw TaeMi fidgeting with her phone, I only got a glance, but I swear I saw Tao’s contact information open on the device.
