Chapter Thirty Two

~ Convincing ~

Time stopped. The pressure in him eased, but it was still there. Tao has no idea how to deal with it. The Light Maiden looked around her with wide eyes, making him blink. She was also immune to his powers. She must be like him and Lay. He made a move to approach her, catching her attention once again.

“A time-controller,” she spoke softly.

“Who are you?” he asked her.

“I’m Ahra. You must come with me.” She said with a determined look on her face.

“What?” he frowned her straightforward statement. “Why should I?”

“Because we’re looking for you and others who have magic like you.” She told him as if that was enough explanation. “But first, could you let go of the time? It’s weird to move when people around me couldn’t.”

“I… I can’t.” He answered. Then, panic started to flood him. “How-? Why-? I can’t!”

She was in front of him all of the sudden. “Relax. Start breathing properly.”

He struggled with it, but managed to follow her instructions. The panic disappeared.

“Now close your eyes and imagine yourself holding tightly unto a ball or something. That thing is time, alright? You must slowly let go of it.” She quietly told him, her hands gripping his arms gently.

It was a butterfly, the thing he had pictured in his mind. He held the small creature trapped in his hands. Then, just like Ahra had told him to do, he let go of it slowly. Some of the energy left his body. Suddenly, he heard the market noise and felt people moving around again. He opened his eyes.

Ahra let out a relieved breathe, and started tugging at him. “Now, let’s go find Suho. He’s like you. Since I’ve already explained everything to him, he’ll be the one who will convince you to come with us. I’m not good with talking.”

“I’ll come with you.” He said, surprised himself.

She stopped walking and turned around. She seemed surprised, too. “What?”

“I don’t need to be convinced. I’ll come with you.” Tao repeated, realizing that he really wanted to come with her. It’s an odd feeling, but a feeling nonetheless. He trusts his feelings. “There’s also someone like me in me Guarire. He’ll be the one who will need convincing.”

He was expecting questions from her. Maybe even silence as she processed the information he had given. What he didn’t expect her to do was to smile. Even though it was just a small quirk on the corners of her lips, it was enough to make her seem brighter to him. “That’s good.” She said, obviously happy.

It also made him happy, and he didn’t know why.

“Are you sure that what the bookseller had said was true?” Kris asked skeptically.

Luhan shrugged. “There’s no harm in believing and trying.”
