Pushing the Envelope
Summer Night's DreamAs General Kim led Shin Hye towards the roped off area in the base camp for her film crew to setup, the soldiers passing by were doing double takes at the stunning beauty walking alongside with him. They started murmuring to each other questioning if she was Park Shin Hye and what on earth was she doing in the DMZ.
‘Enough with the formalities Shin Hye. Lets go and meet your lead actor’ General Kim’s hand pointed towards the crowd of soldiers ‘Min Ho ssi, please meet your director Sarah Park’ his loud voice echoed grabbing Min Ho’s attention.
‘Wait, I thought you were Sarah Park?’ he squinted his eyes towards Grace thoroughly confused of what was happening and who this girl standing in front of him is.
‘I think you’re waiting for her’ Grace sweetly smiled pointed her finger towards a calm General Kim and a wide eyed shocked Shin Hye who were standing less than 100 feet away from them.
‘How can there be two Sarah Parks?’ he turned his gaze towards the general and did a double take of Shin Hye to ensure his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him.
‘I never said I was Sarah Park, you just assumed I was her’ Grace chuckled gearing herself up for a live romantic comedy exchange between Min Ho and Shin Hye that was going to happen in a matter of seconds. This was going to be better than any romantic comedy she’s ever seen.
‘Min Ho ssi, please meet Sarah Park the up and coming director from LA who will be handling the film you’ll be staring in’ General Kim smiled brightly at Shin Hye ‘I don’t think further introductions are needed as the two of you worked previously together on another drama. Please continue to work well together.’
Shin Hye’s feet were stuck to the ground as if someone had firmly nailed her shoes to the black cement payment. Her body immediately tensed up when she realized that Min Ho was the solider the army had assigned on her film project. Her eyes and mouth were wide open in shock, searching for the right words to say.
Min Ho stared at her and softly let out a low chuckle amused at how fate began to play in his favor. He lips began to curl up slowly forming into his warm signature smirk while thinking about spending the next few months working side by side with Shin Hye. His heart began to flutter just thinking about how they would spend long days together, it was his chance to boldly cross the line of divide she drew in between them and pull her back to his side.
‘Shin….uh...sorry Sarah Park it’s nice to meet you again’ Min Ho walked up to her and General Kim while holding out his hand welcoming her for a warm handshake.
Shin Hye’s mind was still distracted on devising a plan to avoid him at all costs and didn’t register anything he just said to her. She turned her gaze towards Grace shooting her eye signals to come and save her.
Ring…ring….
‘Shin Hye?’ Min Ho tried to pull her out of her trance.
Ring…ring…
‘Shin Hye ssi’ General Kim’s voice awoke her from her deep slumber. ‘Your phone is ringing’ he pointed at her iphone.
‘Mianhe’ she immediately jolted from her deep fathom and answered her phone.
‘Se Young unnie, what do you mean you can’t do it?’ Shin Hye ran her hand roughly through her hair frustrated at the change of events.
‘Ani unnie, we can push the filming back, I need you to be the female lead. I can’t replace you’ Shin Hye violently shook her head while trying to convince her to reconsider.
‘The avian flu? You have it? How did you get it, you were fine when I talked to you yesterday?...Omo, I’m sorry’ Her eyes widened in shock when Se Young told her she was turning down her film because she caught the avian flu when she went to China for a CF filming last week.
‘No no, your health is more important than my film. Don’t worry I’ll figure out a back up plan. Please take care of yourself unnie.’
As Shin Hye ended the call she let out a loud deep sigh, disappointed in her selfishness to push Se Young to continue with the filming knowing that she was severely ill. She tightly closed her eyes in frustration quickly thinking of a Plan B to find another lead actress on a short notice and prevent her filming to be delayed.
‘Sarah, what’s wrong?’ Grace’s voice brought her back to reality as she stood next to Shin Hye.
‘Park Se Young caught the avian flu, she needs to be quarantined for a month’ Shin Hye mumbled under her breath as she hung her head low .
‘Omo?! The avian flu? Is she ok? What are you going to do with your film?’ Grace worriedly asked.
‘She’s fine, she just needs to rest.’ Shin Hye raised her head and glanced at General Kim ‘Mianhe General Kim, but I think we’re going to cancel our film until I find another lead actress. Thanks for all your efforts and sorry for any inconvenience caused.’
‘Ani, you can do it!’ Min Ho loudly spoke without thinking.
‘Wae?’ Shin Hye glared at him.
‘Good idea Min Ho ssi, Shin Hye you’re an actress. You can do it. I’ve been wanting to see another collaboration between the two of you after your last drama. My whole battalion along with my wife and daughter would be ecstatic to see you two acting alongside again.’ General Kim tried his best to convince Shin Hye to take the role.
‘Ani….General Kim, thanks for the compliment, but….I can’t direct and act at the same time. I think it’s best that we delay or worse cancel filming until I find another actress….I’m terribly sorry.’ Shin Hye bowed.
‘Wae?! You can’t delay your filming, don’t even think about canceling your film!’ Min Ho’s firmly spoke to her.
‘Wae?! You should be happy you don’t have to film. Why do you care?’ Shin Hye lifted up her face to challenge him.
‘I….uh…’ Min Ho was raking his hand through his hair lost for words.
‘Shin Hye, I thought of a Plan B for you!’ Grace smiled widely at her ‘just give me five minutes’.
Grace pulled out her cell phone from her back pocket and started to frivolously tap away.
‘Grace…uh…I don’t think we can find another actress on such a short notice…come on lets go.’ Sh
