They fixated their eyes to the white floor admiring it like it was a famous Monet painting. After their ten seconds in heaven on the flight, Min Ho was waiting for Shin Hye to fall into his tight embrace. But as his arms began to encircle around her tiny frame, she intuitively raised her two hands and gently pushed him away drawing a line of divide between them. Min Ho got the hint loud and clear, he had pushed the envelope too far. But he was determined to cross the line and drag her back with him, it was just a matter of timing.
Bling….Bling…
The red lights hanging over the luggage carousel began to light up and the speakers were loudly ringing warning the passengers that their suitcases would be rolling off of the black conveyer belt in a matter of minutes.
‘So….’ Min Ho shifted his gaze from the white floor and turned his head to the right looking straight at her.
‘So…’ Shin Hye finally lifted up her head and met his gaze after a few minutes of silence. Her brain still needed time to think through all the dangerous questions he might ask her and prepare a politically correct response to each one.
‘Where do we go from here, Shin Hye ah?’ he bit his lower lip unsure of her answer and if she’ll give him the response he wants to hear.
‘I don’t know’ she pressed her lips together and sighed. She silently began to beat herself up.
Shin Hye what do you mean you don’t know?! Of course you know! You want to hold his hand and turn back time. But you can’t, you’re seeing someone remember? His name is Song Joong Ki. You can’t turn your back on him when Min Ho miraculously appears right in front of your eyes again. As much as you want it to be a Disney movie, it’s not!
‘Huh? You don’t know? Didn’t you feel my heart beating against yours? Didn’t you feel my lips tremble against yours? What do you mean you don’t know?’
‘I….uh…don’t know anymore’ she closed her eyes and shook her head annoyed that she’s letting her rational mind take over.
‘Look, it's my suitcase’ she thanked God that her suitcase fell off the conveyer belt giving her a rightful excuse to avoid him and some more time to sort out her next steps.
She walked over the carrousel with Min Ho hot on her tails. She stepped a few inches in front of her suitcase readying herself to lift it off the conveyer belt as it was leaving the curved bend.
‘I’ll get it for you.’ Min Ho grabbed her raised right hand.
‘It’s ok. I can do it on my own.’ She yanked her hand away from his ‘It’s not my first time.’
Shin Hye walked up to her approaching suitcase, latching her right hand onto the handle trying to pull it off of the conveyer belt in one swift lift.
‘Why do you have to be so stubborn?’ Min Ho asked her in an annoyed tone when she failed to pull her suitcase off of the conveyer belt.
‘I’m not.’ She crossed her arms and looked away.
‘Yes you are. Why can’t you just ask for help when you obviously need it? Why can’t you be vulnerable in front of me?’
‘Hajima! That’s my suitcase not yours.’ She yelled at him as he walked towards her suitcase coming around the bend the second time.
‘What’s yours is mine. What’s mine is yours.’ He pulled her suitcase off the conveyer belt with ease.
‘Give it back!’ she gave him her scariest death glare.
‘Say please.’ Min Ho yelled as he began to walk towards the arrival hall with her suitcase in tow, leaving a wide eyed baffled Shin Hye staring at his back profile.
‘Yah! Give it back to me!’ Shin Hye loudly yelled through the dead silent car park. She could care less that she wasn’t upholding her goddess image, she just wanted her suitcase back and to be as far away as possible from Min Ho.
‘Not until you say please!’ he yelled back just as loud, quickening his pace.
‘Fine! Please.’
‘Chinca? I…I…didn’t hear clearly. What did you say?’ Min Ho stopped and turned around to face her while gently placing his hand next to his ear.
‘Please’ she lowly responded admitting defeat.
‘See it’s not that hard saying please and admitting defeat, is it?’ he handed her back her suitcase and patted her head.
‘You didn’t answer my questions earlier. So let me ask you again before you try to run away again like a lightening bolt. Didn’t you feel my heart beating against yours? Didn’t you feel my lips tremble against yours? What do you mean you don’t know?’ his tone and gaze softened towards her.
‘Ani, I felt it. But it’s not this easy. Things…us…it’s not suppose to be this easy….this isn’t a Hollywood movie. We’re real people who have badly hurt each other. You can’t just erase that with a ten second kiss and reset things. We made choices and now we have to face the consequences head on’ she tried her best to reason with him and draw the line of divide even more evident.
‘We can work on turning back time together, one step at a time’
‘Ani, we can’t.’
‘Wae?’ he reached for her hand gently squeezing it ensuring her that everything will be alright and work out to their favor.
‘Hajima’ she pulled her hand away from his for the second time today.
‘Don’t you get it? We made choices, now we have to deal with the consequences. We can’t just change our minds like a click of a finger, there’s other people involved. You chose to crash and burn while behaving intimately with the woman of the night. I chose to believe in fate and moved on.’
‘Why do you have to be so stubborn?’ Min Ho raked his hand through his hair in frustration.
‘You’re wrong. You didn’t believe in fate, you gambled your heart on a silly hide and seek game thinking it was fate.’
Min Ho placed his two hands on the sides of her shoulder, staring straight through her soul commanding for her to listen to him.
‘You want to talk about fate. Ok, lets talk about fate. I got to the airport soaking wet from the rain at 6pm. If you weren’t so stubborn and waited for another 30 seconds, you would have seen me. Then all of this turmoil and soul searching for both of us wouldn’t have happened. Fate….fate brought me to LA. Fate brought me to sit next to you on the flight. Fate tore us apart but it also brought us back together. So if you want to talk about fate, then you owe me a second chance.’
‘Why are you so stubborn? Don’t you get it?’ she tried to pry his hands off her shoulders.
‘I’m in a relationship with someone’ she looked down and softly whispered.
‘Song Joong Ki, right?’ he pressed his finger on the bottom of her chin to lift up her face to meet his gaze.
‘How do you know?’
‘Lets say it’s fate’
‘Sorry…I can’t…I can’t break his heart.’ She pushed his finger away as it began to caress her cheeks.
‘But it’s ok for you to break mine? You said you believed in fate. Fate has spoken loud and clear to you but now you refuse to listen to it. Don’t you think that’s a double standard?’ he bitterly retaliated.
‘I’m….’
‘Shin Hye ah!’ her omma’s voice interrupted her thoughts.
‘Omma?!’ Shi
