The Coming of the Storm
Summer Night's DreamMin Ho gripped onto Shin Hye's hand tightly unwilling to let go. He wanted to declare to all the idols and pretty boy actors in the room that she was claimed and to back off. Shin Hye fidgeted and tried to remove her hand from his strong grip but to no avail his strength outweighed hers and his hand stuck to hers as it was super glue.
'Yah Kim Tan! Let go of Eun Sang's hand or it will break any minute now.' Krystal yelled across the crowded room and drew everyone's attention to the Hallyu couple.
'I'm protecting her from the wolves' he answered cheekily loud enough for the entire room to hear him.
'Yah Kim Tan! Who are you calling wolves?' Jin Hyuk walked out of the kitchen with two beers in hand.
'All the single men. No all the men here in this room. I'm not blind I see how you all look at her' he pointed around the room and stopped his finger at her like a mother condoning her child.
'Ara Kim Tan! We know she's taken, now lets get my party started.' Woo Bin saw the discomfort Shin Hye was in and walked through the crowd to pull her hand off from Min Ho while his other hand gave him a beer.
'Congratulations on getting #1 in ticket sales Binnie!' she smiled as he pulled her into a hug. He felt that something was different; she felt lighter more frail like she had lost 15 pounds since he last saw her a month ago for coffee and cupcakes.
'Gwamo Shinnie. I'm sure your movie will be a success too!' He pulled away and gave her a matching bright smile, happy that she and Min Ho could make it to his celebration party.
'Yah! Why do you have nicknames for each other? When did you guys become so close?!' Min Ho protectively pulled her away from Woo Bin drawing the line of divide.
'You're not the only one who can have close friends' Shin Hye interjected as Min Ho's phone went off.
The ringing of his phone drowned out her soft rebuttal that Min Ho didn't catch it. But Woo Bin on the other hand, heard it loud and clear. He was quick to sense that she had an underlying meaning to her message and it didn't sound like it was anything good.
'Shin Hye ah do you want something to drink?' Woo Bin refrained from calling her nickname to ease the building tension between the jealous Min Ho and him.
'Water please?’ she looked towards the kitchen hoping to get a breath of air in the stifling room.
‘Lets go!’ Woo Bin followed her gaze and led the way leaving Min Ho off to the side answering his phone in an annoyed manner.
Min Ho was right all the men in the room had eyes for Shin Hye. As she walked past each of them on the way to the kitchen, they would each flash her their brightest smile to grab her attention. There were a few idols she recognized and returned the smile with a slight bow as they crossed paths, for just a second, she forgot about her worries and enjoyed mingling with people just like the good old days before she became entwined with Min Ho. Woo Bin open the fridge and pulled out a full jar of cold water pouring it into the small empty glass in his left hand.
‘Spill it, what’s going on?’ he handed her the full glass of water and eyed her suspiciously.
‘Wae? I’m here at your party. What do you mean what’s going on?’ she looked away hoping he wouldn’t pressure her into divulging the painful string of recent events.
‘Stop lying, something is up. It’s either you tell me or I’ll find out on my own’ he took a few steps closer to her and placed his hands on the counter on both of her sides to lock her in place and prevent her from running away from his interrogation.
Ahem! They heard a familiar deep voice clearing his voice. Woo Bin immediately straightened himself and put his hands to his side, Shin Hye turned to the left to catch one of the most annoyed expression she’s ever seen on Min Ho’s face.
‘What are you two doing?’ Min Ho asked in a low voice, holding in his anger towards Woo Bin who being a little too friendly with Shin Hye.
‘Hyung we were just playing a staring game’ Woo Bin ruffled his hair nervously.
‘Woo Bin, it was a little close don’t you think? If someone else walked in they would think you were interested in Shin Hye’ Min Ho’s eyes looked like fireballs were about to fly out any minute to attack Woo Bin.
‘Mianhe oppa, I started it. We won’t do it again if it makes you uncomfortable.’ Shin Hye interjected before Min Ho would say something to Woo Bin that he would regret and couldn’t take back. Shin Hye knew Woo Bin wasn’t interested at all, not even a single milligram, he just cared for her as a younger sister ready to protect her from anything that would provoke harm onto her.
‘Shin Hye ah, I have to leave for a bit. My sister’s car broke down and I need to help her out’ Min Ho’s stare softened as he moved it away from Woo Bin to Shin Hye.
‘It’s ok, go, she needs you’ she gave him a reassuring smile.
‘You’re the best’ he gave her a quick peck on her lips to make it clear to Woo Bin that she was taken and he should leave her alone ‘I’ll be back in an hour, don’t miss me too much.’
As Min Ho left the kitchen, Shin Hye swiftly picked up her glass of water and followed suit into the living room to mingle with some of the guests. As she was about to exit the doorway, Woo Bin grabbed onto her free arm.
‘We’re not done. I meant what I said before he interrupted us.’ Woo Bin looked into her eyes to search for an answer but all he was able to find was a dark, emotionless expression.
‘I told you nothing is wrong.’ She pulled off his grip ‘Everything….is...fine’ she gave him one last look and walked towards to crowd.
