The State of Delusion
Summer Night's DreamShin Hye was tossing and turning in her bed and let out a loud sigh when her eyes landed on her clock that read 1:25 AM. For the past 2 weeks she wasn’t able to get in more than an hour of sleep, once she closed her eyes she would dream about the sweet memories she shared with Min Ho but within seconds her dream was interfered by a string of nightmares. The scene of the night when Min Ho kissed Min Young was on constant playback until it pierced her heart and woke her up from a cold sweat and tears uncontrollably falling from the corners of her eyes.
She pushed herself up and sat on the corner of the bed reaching over to her nightstand. She opened the top drawer and fumbled through to find a small brown colored bottle. She unlocked the cap and poured out two Melatonin pills and popped them into like she was eating candy. She googled that taking two pills of Melatonin each in 0.2 mg was more than acceptable, so she went to local pharmacy and picked up a bottle of it like she was buying a bottle of milk, easy and simple. She knew it was wrong to rely on medicine to aid her sleep but after becoming an insomniac for 3 days straight after the event, she had no choice. She needed to sleep and let her brain go into hibernation to stop her heart from aching. She laid back down onto her soft inviting bed and stared at the dark ceiling, waiting for her eyelids to become heavy and close.
Bling…..bling….
Shin Hye’s hand reached over to her nightstand to answer her ringing phone.
‘Yoboseyo’ she groaned in a sleepy voice.
‘Wae? Are you avoiding me?’ Min Ho asked in an annoyed tone.
‘Ani, I’ve just been busy. And you’ve been in China filming for commercials. I guess our paths missed each other’
‘Why do I sense you’re avoiding me?’
‘Ani I think you’re being over sensitive’ she let out a sigh.
‘Did you find it?’
‘Wae? Find what?’
‘Cincha? You didn’t see something in my jacket?’ he questioned her and wondered how she missed the plane tickets.
‘You mean the plane tickets…hmm…I found them’ she responded lazily.
‘And…?’
‘Wae? And?’
‘Aren’t you excited? Happy? Want to go to LA with me?’ he rattled off the questions as he was surprised by how she was reacting to his surprise. He expected her to be jumping out of her seat rather acting this solemn. Something wasn’t right, but he just wasn’t sure what.
‘Mianhe oppa, I would love to go LA with you’ she perked up her voice to show him that she was happy that he planned the surprise trip for her. But deep down inside, her heart thought otherwise.
‘Shin Hye ah, I miss you. I can’t wait to see you when I get back. Promise me you’ll be the first thing I see when I set foot in Seoul’
Silence
‘Min Ho, where were you…when I called…the other night?’ she finally gathered the courage to ask him the question that was eating her alive every waking minute. Even though she already knew the answer, she wanted to hear it from the horse’s mouth.
‘Mianhe Shin Hye, I was at Il Woo’s apartment he was feeling down and I went over to grab a drink with him. Mianhe I left my phone in the car and didn’t see your call until the next morning.’
Min Ho’s response began to echo over and over in her mind.
Did my eyes play a cruel trick on me? Was he really at Il Woo’s apartment? Is that why he didn’t pick up my call? It has to be! That’s right, he didn’t kiss her…he didn’t wipe the tear off her cheek…he didn’t pull her into a hug that didn’t have more than a centimeter of space between them. It was all my delusional brain imagining things. Chinca?! Park Shin Hye! Do you really believe that lie? How naïve are you? Really?! Any girl with some sense would call bull on her two timing boyfriend. Wake up from your fairy tale dream! Can you hear me?! Wake up!
Shin Hye let out a cold, frustrated cry and woke with a cold sweat, breathing ragged. Her eyes moistened from the realness of the nightmare, the conversation between her and Min Ho sounded so familiar it was like it just happened yesterday. It didn’t just happen, to be exact, it happened the morning she broke down in her bathroom. Min Ho was heading out to Shanghai and wanted to bid her farewell while she kept calm to see if he would bring up his rendezvous with Min Young to her. Her heart made another gamble with her brain, it trusted that Min Ho would confess the truth to her because he loved her. Boy was her heart wrong aga
