Boundaries
The Perfect Fake GirlfriendA few days had passed since that evening and as an instinct, both Kai and Hyemi knew not to bring the topic up any further. It’s one of the few things they both had in common and both understand about each other yet they didn’t know themselves. They knew each other’s limits and the boundaries that no one can pass because they know themselves the feeling of exposure. However, needless to say this, it didn’t stop Kai’s curious mind from turning.
Hyemi was perfectly alright a few hours before they entered the party yet as soon as she got there, a sudden change was definitely evident and Kai didn’t miss this. He was definitely sure that it just wasn’t because she was nervous about meeting his parents. Something in that party triggered Hyemi to be the way she is. When she came back from the toilet too, her attitude worsened. She wasn’t looking at him right in the eye. Her head was down as she spoke and shouted at him, as if she was hiding something. However, Kai did not dwell in this matter any further. Hyemi has a boundary that he cannot step across. He wanted to, but he shouldn’t, because he knew he wasn’t special to have the gratitude to cross over.
“Hyemi-sshi!” Suho called as he waved then jogged over to Hyemi.
“Oh, Suho-shhi,” Hyemi greeted. “Can I help you?”
Suho brought out a pile of paper from his bag. “Mr. Woo said to give this to you.”
Hyemi took the papers with a confused look. She tilted her head and examined it. “Oh, it’s the financial data of the Busan trip. Thank you Suho-sshi.” Hyemi smiled.
“Alright then, see you tomorrow.” They both bowed each other goodbye and walked off into opposite directions.
It was currently 6:45pm and Hyemi had just about finished school. Being part of the student council, this is one of its down sides. She had just finished a meeting about an upcoming trip for the first years. One of the councils in the first years had just resigned and being one of the councils in the third year, Hyemi had to be a good sunbae and fill in the empty spot.
She rolled her neck, feeling a crack as she did so. She stepped in to her designated classroom and started to search for her bag. There were exactly two bags in the classroom, both laid on the table. She rolled her eyes. What kind of idiot forgets and leaved their bag in school? Hyemi picked up on the bags, realising it wasn’t hers… Kim Jongin. She sighed aloud. Ah, now it makes sense. She shook her head lightly then headed out, not forgetting to get her bag on the way.
It was just a guess but Hyemi thought Kai would be at his and his friends’ hangout, also known as, Suho’s personal apartment. She’d been there once before but it was only a quick trip as whilst Kai and she were on a ‘double date’ Kai had to make a quick stop at the hangout for a jacket he forgot. That’s one of the things she noticed about Kai, he’s a very forgetful person, and being the opposite of him, Hyemi happened to have a good memory. A good enough memory that she remembered the location of their hangout.
A few minutes later, she stood in front of Suho’s apartment, waiting for the door to open. When it did open, she was greeted by a smiling Chanyeol. “Hyemi!” he beamed. “Come in!”
“Ah! No it’s alright! I just came to drop Kai’s bag…” But before she could finish her sentence, Chanyeol had already dragged her in and showed her to everyone.
“Everyone’s not here today, you know, with all that exams coming up so it’s just me, Tao, Baekhyun. Chen, Luhan and Kris are at the other room watching a movie and Lay and Kai are at the dance studio,” Chanyeol explained with a wide smile.
“Umm, where’s Suho?” Hyemi asked warily. It was Suho’s apartment, at least, that’s what she heard.
“Oh, he’s at his parent’s house. I heard that his brother was back so he went to celebrate.”
“I see… Well then… Umm… I’ll just give this Kai then leave…” Hyemi stuttered, not knowing why she was suddenly so nervous.
She walked to where Chanyeol pointed over. She found a door with a rectangular window on it. Through it, she saw Lay and Kai dancing. Her eyes and lips widened slightly, amazed and su
