The Past Will Follow You Wherever You Go: Part 1

This Is What Fate Gives You

*Jinyoung's POV*

"Oppa~!"

I turned around to see a girl running towards me. She jumped and hugged me. I laughed and hugged her back. We broke from our embrace and she gave me a quick peck on the lips that surprised me. I laughed and kissed her right back.

"Oppa-" She started to say but I stopped her.

"Before you say anything, follow me." I took her hand and intertwined it with mine. We walked over to a bench and I told her to sit down.

"Close your eyes," I said and she did as she was told.

I pulled out a small box from my pocket and opened it, revealing two ring necklaces with a Micky Mouse head hanging in the middle. I picked up the smaller one with a gold Micky Mouse head and placed it around her neck. I closed the clasps and pulled out the other one, but this one had a black Micky Mouse head. I put it around my neck and made her face me.

"You can open your eyes now."

She opened her eyes and her hand immediately went to the necklace and she stared at it with admiration. I held my own in front of her and she stared at me.

"Happy one year anniversary babe," I smiled. "I'm sorry it's not much."

She shook her head and hugged me. "No, it's beautiful! Thank you so much!" She pulled away. "I'm the one who should be saying sorry. I didn't get you anything."

"It's alright. As long as you're with me, that's a present enough."

She smiled that sweet smile that I loved and I leaned in to kiss her. It was a habit. I pulled away and held out my pinky. "Promise that you'll stay with me? Forever?"

She smiled and intertwined her pinky with mine. "Promise."

I opened my eyes to my white ceiling. I pressed my hand to my forehead. "Why did I dream of that?" I rolled to my left and stared at my alarm clock. It read 7:45. "I'm late..." I groaned and sat up. "I have a feeling that today won't be a good day."

I quickly dressed in my uniform, brushed my teeth and left the house. My mom already left for work so I was pretty much the only one in the house. Not including the maids. I stepped outside my porch and looked at my watch "Seven fifty-five. There's no way I can make it to school in five minutes." I noticed my bike that was leaning on the wall. I walked over to it and and detached the chain.

"You look lonely," I said. I sat on it and rode to school. I placed it in the bike racks and chained it to the fence. I looked at my watch. 8:13... Well, better late than never.

I walked up the stairs to the third floor and entered the classroom casually. The teacher gave me a stern look. "Why are you late Jinyoung?"

"I woke up late," I said. "Joseonghamnida."

I quickly went to my seat and sat down. The teacher still kept looking at me. "Don't let it happen anymore." She turned back to the board and continued her sentence.

I pulled out my notebook and textbook but I wasn't paying attention in class. I felt tired and I constantly asked myself why I had that dream. I thought I would be over her already. I shook my head and concentrated on my work.

The class went by quickly and break came by. I closed my books shut and rested my head on the desk. I suddenly remembered Soyoung. My head shot up and I looked where she would sit, but she wasn't there. Her bag wasn't there either.Where could she be?

I asked the person who sat behind her. "Soyoung didn't come to school today?"

He shook his head. "I think she's absent."

I looked back to her desk. Why am I worrying so much over her? Maybe I should ask Hyuna. I went to the class next door and found Hyuna sitting down, listening to music. I walked over to her and tapped her shoulder. She looked up at me and took out the right ear phone. "Yes?"

"Soyoung is not here?"

Hyuna shook her head. "She caught a cold yesterday. She called me this morning saying she's gonna miss school."

"Ohh," I was about to walk away but then I remembered something. "Doesn't she live by herself?"

"Yeah," Hyuna said casually.

"Then who's taking care of her?"

"Herself," Hyuna resumed listening to her music. "She's a strong girl. She can take care of herself."

I messed up my hair. Why am I getting so worried

"If you're so worried," Hyuna started to say, "then why don't you come with me to visit her later one?"

I looked at her. "Can I?"

"Sure. As long as you promise not to do anything stupid."

"Why would I do anything stupid?"

Hyuna shrugged. "I don't know~. So, later on, after school, meet me at the front gates and we'll go to her house."

"You know where she lives?"

"Of course~!" She made a puppy dog face.

"Well okae..." I went back to my classroom but I still couldn't help but worry about Soyoung.

My whole entire school day was a constant battle between why I had that dream and worrying over Soyoung. I didn't know which one gave me more of a headache. I waited impatiently for school to end and once it did, I packed up my bags and waited at the school gates for Hyuna.

"Ugh... Where is she?" I complained.

"Hold your horses," she said behind me. I turned around and she was right there. "You got here before I did. You must really want to see Soyoung."

I scoffed. "Not really."

Hyuna rolled her eyes and pushed passed me. "Whatever you say~" And I heard her whisper something like "I swear you two are dense..."

"What did you say?"

"Nothing~!" She stopped abruptly and turned around. "Let's buy something for her!"

"Like what?"

Hyuna looked up at the sky and thought. "Let's buy her flowers. And ice cream!"

"Are you sure you're not the one who wants ice cream?"

She turned to me and pouted. "No!" She quickened her pace and was ahead of me.

I shook my head and laughed and followed her. We first went to a flower shop and asked the woman for help.

"You're giving it to a sick friend right? I think I know three different flowers that would be good for the occasion."

I looked around the shop which was covered in flowers from ceiling to floor. "Is there a difference in what kind of flowers you get?"

"Of course," the woman said. "Each flower has a different meaning. Here's a nice one." She pulled out a couple of pink flowers. "This is a Peony. It means healing. It will help her to get better." She put it on the side. Since you're getting two more, why don't each of you get a flower that would represent your feelings for her."

Hyuna clapped her hands. "Ohh! That sounds fun! Can you help me?"

The woman smiled. "Of course."

"Soyoung is a very good friend of mine. Is there a flower that means friendship?"

"That would be a pink rose."

"Oh! Let's get the pink rose!" Hyuna chimed. The woman smiled cheerfully and went over to a basket of roses. She pulled out some pink ones and place it next to the Peonies. She turned to me and smiled. "What do you want to get her?"

I shrugged. I saw some pretty pink flowers to my left. "I guess this one? It matches with the others."

The woman gazed at the pink flowers and smiled. "Is this friend a girl?"

I nodded. She smiled and Hyuna gave her a questioning look. "Why? What does that flower mean?"

The woman leaned over and whispered something in Hyuna's ear. A big smile formed on her face and began nodding. "Exactly!"

I looked at both of them weirdly. "What are you talking about?"

"Nothing~" Hyuna sang and skipped past me to the cash register. The woman took the pink flowers I chose and placed it with the other two. She wrapped it in a plastic and arranged it to look nice. She tied it with a baby blue silk bow to keep it in place. We payed her and she was about to give us our change but Hyuna stopped her.

"You can keep the change. It's only 3,000 won anyways."

The woman smiled and thanked us. We left the flower shop with Hyuna holding the bouquet in her hands. She was smiling cheerfully and I asked her what's wrong.

"Nothing~" She sang. "Now let's get some ice cream."

I gave her a weird look and follower her into an ice cream shop. We bought ice cream for Soyoung and ourselves.

"I want bubble gum!" Hyuna chimed.

"Uhh, cookies and cream for me." I said.

"And rainbow sorbet for Soyoung!"

The man at the cashier nodded and went to get us our ice cream. He gave it to us in small cups and handed us our spoons.

"We better hurry before these melt," I said.

Hyuna nodded and I followed her. We went to an area of apartments and she led me to the one near the back. I follower her up the steps to the second floor and she didn't stop till we were at the very end of the building.

She held out the bouquet of flowers and her ice cream cup to me. "Hold this."

I gave her a disbelief look. I held out my arms. "I'm holding my bag, mine and Soyoung's ice cream in both hands."

"Fine. I'll knock with my foot then."

"Wait. What?"

Hyuna then kicked the door repeatedly with her foot.

"Ya! You're going to disturb the neighbors!" I yelled. "And there's a door bell you know!"

"Where?" She looked around the door for one.

This girl. She's just a dense as Soyoung. No wonder they're friends. I pushed passed her and pressed the button with my shoulder. "I thought you said you've been here before?"

"I usually knock," she said innocently.

We heard some rings and then a voice.

"Who is it?" It sounded like Soyoung but throaty.

Hyuna pushed me and I almost fell down. "Ya!"

"Soyoung! It's me Hyuna! I've come to visit you! I've brought flowers and ice cream!" She looked at me and back to the door. "And a person!"

Really? I'm just "a person"? I don't even have a name?

"What? A person?" I heard Soyoung say.

The door opened and Soyoung stood at the door. She was dressed in pajamas and covering herself in a blanket and her nose was a little red.

Hyuna handed her the bouquet. "Here's your flowers. Your ice cream is over there with the person." She pointed to me.

"I really don't have a name?" I snapped.

Soyoung looked at me and quickly looked away. "Well, come in then." Hyuna stepped inside and I stuck my tongue at her. I followed them and took of my shoes and placed it on the side.

Soyoung was sitting on the floor behind a table and Hyuna was next to her. She placed the bouquet on the table. I walked over to them and put down her ice cream.

"It's for you," I said and dropped my bag to the ground. I sat down and sighed.

"Thank you," she whispered and took the ice cream and ate it. She avoided my gaze and I wondered why.

"How did you catch a cold?" I asked her.

"I was working late and when I finished, it was raining hard. I forgot my umbrella and I didn't want to wait till it's night time. So I ran in the rain."

"Aish... You're stupid." I felt someone hit my head. I rubbed the back of my head and looked up at Hyuna.

"You do not call a sick person stupid!" She snapped at me.

"Aish, you're loud," I said, earning me another smack behind my head.

Hyuna sat next to Soyoung. "You like it?"

Soyoung nodded and Hyuna petted her like a puppy. "Good girl. After this, i'll give you medicine and you should go to sleep. Me and Jinyoung will clean up around here."

"What?"

"I. Said. We'll. Clean. Up." She said, pausing after every word.

She can be a bit scary at times. "Fine."

After Soyoung ate her ice cream, Hyuna brought her to her bedroom while I went to the kitchen and washed the dishes. A few minutes later, Hyuna came outside.

"I gave her her medicine and now she's sleeping," she announced.

"Okae," I said as I put away the plates and cups.

She looked at what I was doing. I side-eyed her. "What?"

"Nothing," she pulled back. "Since you're cleaning the kitchen, I'll clean the living room."

"Whatever," I mumbled to myself.

When I was done washing the dishes, I wiped the counter and organized some stuff. When I was done, I stepped into the living room and looked around. It's kinda small. But then again she lives by herself so this is all she needs. I was going to sit down on the couch but I hit my knee on a table.

"Ow!" I bent over and rubbed my knee. I guess I'm not used to small spaces.

I stood up and made my self comfy on the couch. Hyuna was busy sweeping out dirt and dust out the door. When she was done, she sat down next to me and there was an awkward silence after that.

"What should we do now?" I asked.

"I don't know," Hyuna replied. She grabbed the remote control on the table and the tv. "We might as well watch tv."

Hyuna flipped through the channels but nothing came to our interest.

"There's nothing good on!" Hyuna complained.

At that moment Soyoung came outside.

"Why are you out of bed?" Hyuna asked. "You should be sleeping!"

"I ran out of medicine," she said in a low voice. "Can you buy some for me?"

"Okae," I was about to get up but Hyuna pushed me back down.

"I'll get it for you," she smiled. "You need someone to protect you anyways." She winked at me.

The freak?

She skipped to Soyoung and took the empty medicine bottle from her. "The exact same one?"

Soyoung nodded and Hyuna grabbed her jacket. "I'll be back soon~" And she was gone.

There was an awkward silence after that. The channel that Hyuna stopped on was showing Pororo. I sat on the couch and played with the strap of my bag.

"Thank you for coming to visit me," Soyoung said out of nowhere.

"No problem."

Soyoung walked over and took the bouquet from the table. "We need to put this in water."

"I'll do that," I said as I got up. "You should be resting."

"No it's fine," she insisted. She walked over to a small coffee table in the corner of the room and picked up a glass pitcher. She walked into the kitchen and filled it with water. Once she was done, she took out the flowers, put it into the pitcher and placed it back on the table.

"Thank you for the flowers," she said.

"You're welcome," I said.

"I heard you picked out the flowers according to your feelings for me," she muttered.

"Uhh yeah. The Peony means healing, the pink roses are from Hyuna which means friendship, and the ones I chose," I stared blankly at the bouquet of pink flowers. "I honestly don't know what they are and what they mean."

"Ohh... really?" She said with a hint of disappointment. Why does she sound disappointed?

"Hyuna knows what it means. Why don't you ask her," I said.

She suddenly got up and walked back into the hallway. I could see that her face was red. Well she was sick. "I just remembered I have laundry to do."

I got up and chased after her. "No. You're sick and you need to rest. I'll do the laundry for you. Or have Hyuna do it when she comes back. Right now you need to sleep." I grabbed her hand but she pulled free.

"Are you okae?" I asked.

"I'm fine," she said. "I just don't want you to get sick. So you shouldn't get too near me."

I gave her a weird look. "Fine. But promise me you'll get some rest."

"Arasseo," she whispered.

She walked back to her room.

"Is there anything you want me to get you?" I asked. "Something for you to drink maybe?"

"Orange juice is good for sick people," she muttered.

"Arasseo. Just go to bed and I'll be back with your orange juice." Soyoung disappeared behind her bedroom door and I walked back to the kitchen and grabbed a glass cup and filled it with orange juice. I walked to her bedroom and knocked on the door. I opened it and saw that Soyoung was lying down on her bed in the corner of the room.

The room was small, fit for one person. The walls were painted a light cream color and the single window was covered with a light blue curtain. In one side of the room was a desk and a closet next to it. On the other side of the room was a small black vanity set.

I walked over to the bed and sat down at the edge. "Here's your orange juice." She sat up and took it from me and drank it. She only drank half of it and set it down on the bedside table. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm fine. Just a little tired," she replied.

"Then you should go to sleep. Don't worry about anything else. Hyuna and I will take care of everything for you," I smiled.

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure." I patted her head and told her to lie down. She did as she was told and closed her eyes. I moved away some strands of her hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear. Looking at her, I couldn't help but smile. She looks pretty when she sleeps.

I looked at her while she slept. Why do I worry over her so much. I shook the thought away. I must be going crazy. I looked at my watch. "Aish... What's taking that girl so long?"

I was about to leave but I felt something pull at my shirt. I turned around and saw that Soyoung was holding onto the hem of my uniform.

"Don't leave..." She whispered.

Her sudden words caught me off guard. My hands automatically went to my cheeks. Why does my face feel hot? I looked at her and smiled. "Don't worry. I'll be right here."

*Soyoung's POV*

I don't know how long I slept. It felt like hours. My fever went down a little, but I wasn't entirely better. I sat up and looked around. I noticed a head leaning on my bed. When I leaned over, I saw that it was Jinyoung, who was fast asleep.

I leaned my head on the pillow. He looks cute when he's asleep. Wait. What am I saying? I got up and smack my face. Oww... Okae... Maybe I hit myself a little too hard.

"Soyoung? Are you awake?" Hyuna came from behind the door. She noticed Jinyoung and gave a disgusted look. "He fell asleep?" She then dropped the small plastic bag she was holding and ran to me. "He didn't do anything to you?"

"N-no." I said.

"Are you sure?"

I nodded to reassure her. She sighed in relief and sat at the foot of my bed. "Sorry I took so long. The store didn't have your medicine, and the store that had it was all the way in the middle of the city so I had to take a cab. Plus the line was long."

"It's okae. You didn't have to go through all that trouble."

Hyuna got off the bed and picked up the plastic bag. "It took me more than an hour to get this stupid thing." She kicked Jinyoung and shouted "Wake up!"

He jumped and looked around the room as if trying to remember where he was. He turned to me with a worried expression. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm fine. Thank you for taking care of me," I said and smiled.

He smiled back and looked a little relieve. "That's good."

*Jinyoung's POV*

At that moment Hyuna leaned in a whispered something to Soyoung and she turned a bright red.

"You're crazy!" She covered her face with the blanket.

I shot Hyuna a look. "Ya! What did you say to her? Are you trying to make her more sick than she already is?"

She shook her head and gave an innocent look. "I didn't do anything. You should go home now. It's getting late."

I looked at my watch and it read 6:45. Time flies by fast. I got up and looked at Soyoung but she avoided my gaze. "You sure you'll be alright by yourself??"

"I'm staying with her so it'll be alright." Hyuna said.

"Okae," I walked over to Soyoung. "Get better alright? Don't make me worry over you so much."

She nodded but still didn't look at me. I patted her head and turned around. I opened the door and gave one more look at Soyoung and closed the door behind me. I grabbed my bag that was sitting on the table. I opened the front door and locked it before leaving. I decided to walk a little before taking a cab home. I walked by a bust street. Vendors were out and about, screaming to people to try their foods. I stopped by one and tried their ddukbokki. "I'll have one box of these."

"Coming right up," the man said. He grabbed a white box and packed some ddukbokki in it. He handed it to me. "That'll be 10,000 won." I pulled out my wallet and handed him some money. "I'll give you your change in just a bit."

I stood there and waited for him to give me my change when I noticed something from the corner of my eye. A group of friends were walking and laughing. I almost dropped my food once I realized who they were. "Um, you can keep the change." I told the old man and ran away. I looked behind me and saw that they were going in the same direction as me. I hid in an alley way and ducked behind empty boxes. I waited as they passed my way. Once they were a few feet away, I decided to follow them.

I must be crazy. What if they see me? I followed them, but kept my distance. Whenever they would turn around or turn their head, I would duck behind garbage cans, food stands, hide in convenience stores.

They entered a cafe and I stood at the side and watched as they lined up at the counter. Both the doors and the windows were made of glass so I could see inside clearly. I didn't want to see them, and I didn't want them to see me. But it's like my mind and body were't controlled by me anymore. My hand slowly grasped the handle to the door. With my eyes still on them, I slowly opened the door but let go of it immediately when she turned around. I ran away as quickly as I could, called a cab, and slid down in my seat. My heart was racing and I felt a headache coming on.

I hope she didn't see me. She couldn't have seen me. Thoughts started to race in my mind. Memories, good and bad. It was driving me crazy. I messed up my hair and gazed at the night sky. There wasn't a single star in the sky. It was like a big black blanket was covering the stars.

"Hyorin?" A boy said.

The girl turned around. "Yes?"

"You okae?"

"I'm... fine. I thought I just saw..." She turned back to the cafe door. "Never mind."
