Daehyun and Sooyun sat on his bed side by side as they had their arms around each other, staring out the window at the white snow that slowly fell from the sky and softly graced the earth. Not a word was exchanged between the two of them as they just sat there embracing what little alone time they seemed to have these days.

 

Christmas day was just three days ago and instead of being able to spend it together like most other couples out there, they found themselves being shared amongst their families and friends instead. Daehyun's parents had come down for two days and insisted on getting to know everything about Sooyun, the only girl who has ever managed to enter their son's uneventful life. Any other time she wasn't with them or her own parents, the boys dragged her away and hogged her to themselves.

 

And now that she was known as Lee Hana's daughter, she did not live with Daehyun like when she was still an angel. So spending time together with just the two of them seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Even right now the other guys were just downstairs being occupied with their video games and were sure to storm up as soon as they noticed the two were missing.

 

Daehyun let out an anguished groan when their peaceful moment was interrupted yet again -- and this time by Jongup bursting through the door.

 

"Noona! Come play with us!"

 

He grabbed Sooyun by the arm and easily pulled her out of his hyung's embrace. They disappeared in a whirlwind, leaving Daehyun sulking in his spot.

 

He sighed a long and dramatic sigh. Can't they tell we just want to spend some time together this holidays? It's almost like they're doing this on purpose… like that time when Himchan-hyung and Zelo kept her away from me at all costs.

 

Thinking ahead, he realised that New Years was just around the corner. Daehyun smirked to himself as a plan started piecing itself together inside his head.

 

If we can't make them leave, then we can just leave them, right?

The days went by achingly slow for Daehyun until it was the morning of New Years Eve. After putting on thick layers of clothing, gloves and a woolly scarf to fight the cold, crisp winter air, he set off to Sooyun's home. And as expected, the guys were already there fooling around while Sooyun was putting on her white boots.

 

"You all have fun today! And where is your adorable boyfriend Sooyunnie?" Mrs. Lee was saying. Her eyes flickered towards the nearing figure and twinkled. "There you are Daehyun!"

 

Sooyun turned to him and smiled before running up to him for a hug. "Morning Daedae~~~"

 

He hugged her back happily. "Morning… angel."

 

She raised her eyebrows at this name choice of his and stared at him in amusement. Their eye-contact was cut short by Himchan wrapping his arm around Sooyun's shoulder and pulling her away.

 

"Bye Auntie!" he called over his shoulder to Sooyun's mother before making his merry way over to the bus stop with the others, arm still around Sooyun, leaving Daehyun standing there stupidly.

 

"You might want to go after them before you lose them Daehyun," Mrs. Lee laughed. "Take good care of my daughter for me!"

 

Daehyun bowed and left hurriedly to catch up with the group, embarrassingly slipping on the snow along the way.

 

She watched him as he left, shaking her head as her body rattled with yet another chuckle. "What are you doing to your son, old friend."

The group of seven were chomping on their carp bread -- which Daehyun begrudgingly bought under force -- while walking along the row of set-up stalls. Since New Years was really just a public holiday where they are, celebrations mainly consisted of a variety of random stalls and a few performances here and there. Fireworks were scheduled at midnight to celebrate the transition to the new year.

 

Zelo was excitedly going from one stall to another, eyeing the discounted headphones he liked and sneakily dragged a clueless Himchan along with him to act as his wallet. Yongguk was off hunting for more war movies while Jongup was just wandering off checking out whatever seemed interesting. Seeing as all their backs were turned and their attention was away from Sooyun, Daehyun took his opportunity to grab her wrist and pull her away hastily. She blinked up at him innocently.

 

"Sooyun, hurry lets go before they notice!"

 

She seemed to get the gist of what he was planning and smiled cheekily before running off with him.

 

Just as all seemed to go well, the two of them stopped in their tracks when they noticed Youngjae staring at them from a few metres ahead. Daehyun shuffled in his spot uncomfortably, opening his mouth to make up an excuse.

 

"Just get a move on already you two," Youngjae snapped before he could even utter a word. "Or the others will come hunting after you."

 

Shooting his friend a grin, he and Sooyun ran before turning a corner not too far off. And as soon as they were out of sight, Youngjae was suddenly surrounded by the other four and was being interrogated.

 

"Yah! Yoo Youngjae!" Himchan called unhappily. "I thought you were going to make sure Daehyun didn't run off with Sooyunnie while we were looking around!"

 

"Where is hyung? Did he take noona with him?!" Zelo gasped. "Nooo!!!"

 

Jongup came up to him. "Wouldn't this ruin the plan then hyung?" Youngjae just shook his head.

 

"Do what you want. It'll all work out fine regardless."

 

 

Meanwhile, Daehyun and Sooyun were huffing and puffing as they slowed down to a walk, feeling absolutely exhilarated at their little escape mission from the boys. Daehyun felt his heart warm up when he saw his girlfriend giggling up at him with a red glow colouring her cheeks. 

 

"They might be coming after us right now Daehyunnie."

 

"We might want to get a move on then." He grabbed her hand in his and beamed when she automatically intertwined her fingers with his. "Kaja."

 

They were passing by a row of street vendors and were eyeing the freshly cooked hot food when Daehyun felt a tug on his arm. Sooyun started swinging it with hers.

 

"The dukbokki smells so nice, Daehyunnie. Let's have dukbokki~~~"

 

Like he would ever say no to food. Especially if Sooyun wanted it. And so they found themselves sitting on a bench feeding each other the delicious rice cakes. Daehyun decided to mess around a bit and deliberately missed , leaving a red blotch of chilli sauce smeared on her upper lip. She glared at him.

 

"Yah yah, you did that on purpose!" she complained. Before she could wipe it away, he quickly leaned in and pecked it away, pulling back to shoot her a boyish grin.

 

She blushed at his actions. "This bad person, taking advantage of me in public."

 

Daehyun's eyes widened as a laugh left his mouth. "Ei, don't make it sound like I'm harassing you." As revenge, she took a piece of dukbokki and smeared some sauce on the tip of his nose. Sooyun giggled at the confused expression he had on.

 

"Yah!" He took a piece, getting ready to start a food fight when a loud, dramatic, annoying voice pierced through the air.

 

"SOOOOYUUUUUUNIIIIIIEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!" the voice dragged. "SOOOOYUUUUUNNNIIIEEE, OOOOOPPPAAAA'S HEEEEEERREEEE!!!!"

 

They froze momentarily at the sight of Himchan approaching them at a dangerous pace, followed by the other boys. Without another thought Daehyun threw away the box of dukbokki and broke into a run with Sooyun in tow. After running high and low and turning a few corners, the two decided to stop when they could no longer hear Himchan's voice.

 

"They sure are persistent, aren't they?" Sooyun laughed. "Aigoo, I want some time with my boyfriend too~~~"

 

Daehyun turned her to him and hugged her, maintaining their eye contact the entire time. "You're finally calling me your boyfriend after all this time Sooyunnie."

 

"Well~~~ I thought that I should cheer you up a little after going through all of that embarrassment." She shot him a look that suggested she knew something he didn't.

 

He gave her a befuddled look in return. "Embarrassment? When?" It wasn't until now did he notice that people passing by where eyeing him and giggling.

 

Sooyun briefly pointed at his nose before running off laughing. "There Oppa!"

 

Turning to his right, he saw his reflection on a store window. His eyes widened in horror when he noticed that the chilli sauce from before was still smeared on his nose all this time. He glared at Sooyun's figure who was still laughing at his misfortune from afar. "Yah! Lee Sooyun!"

 

She froze when she saw Daehyun charging at her like a bull and let out a short scream before trying to scramble away. But of course, she was no match for his speed.

 

"Got you!" he cheered as he back-hugged her to stop her from running. "Punishment time!"

 

Sooyun squealed and wriggled in his arms as he started tickling her sides. "Aah stop that Daehyun! Please stop!" she laughed as she couldn't take the torture. "I'm sorry Oppa, please stop!"

 

"Only if you call me Jagiya," Daehyun cooed.

 

She stared at him in incredulity. "Whatever happened to that shy boy I met when I first came. You didn't like interacting with girls at that time but now look at you. Being all sneaky with me."

 

Daehyun grinned at her. "Blame yourself for that. And really it's your choice, you don't have to call me that buuut…" He started tickling her mercilessly. "… I really do suggest that you do."

 

"Alright alright! Daehyunnie… Jagiya~~~ Please let me go?" she begged. He stopped and hugged her tight.

 

"That's much better."

 

Sooyun couldn't help but chuckle at her silly boyfriend. But of course, all sweet moments must be interrupted by some certain people.

 

"NOOOOOOOOOONAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!" came Zelo's voice this time.

 

They turned around to the sight of the giant maknae gaining on them at rapid speed. "Holy!" Daehyun shouted in shock before pulling Sooyun away yet again.

 

Seeing a photo booth in the distance, the two of them quickly got in and secured the curtains before Zelo could turn the corner and see them. They held their breath as footsteps approached and stopped right outside the photo booth.

 

"Where's Hyung and Noona?" they heard the poor maknae whine. They could practically see him pouting forlornly. "I swear they turned this way just now… How could I lose them!" Zelo started running again in search of the two who were feeling relieved at not being found just now.

 

Sooyun suddenly reached outside the curtain and started inserting coins into the coin slot. "Might as well take some photos while we're here!" The two of them started got into position as the numbers counted down for the first shot.

 

For the first one, Daehyun back-hugged Sooyun. For the second photo, they switched spots. Then Daehyun piggy-backed her for the next one. And so they tried out a series of silly poses as they finally reached the final shot. Honestly, they were both planning to do the same thing but Sooyun took him absolutely by surprise with what she did. Right before the final shot, she grabbed Daehyun by the collar and pulled him right down to her lips. His eyes popped out in shock as his heart froze in his chest.

 

After hearing a satisfying 'Click!' from the camera, she pulled away to study the frozen figure in front of her. She poked his forehead. "Got you back!"

 

"This bad person, taking advantage of me in public," he repeated her words.

 

Sooyun glared at him playfully. "Well there are no people here watching so it's ok." She brightened up when the printed photos fell from the slot. "Hey, they're done already!"

 

While she was studying the photos, Daehyun came up from behind her and hugged her again. "I like the last shot the best," he whispered as he nuzzled into her neck.

 

She scoffed jokingly. "Byuntae as always Daedae."

 

"What?!" he snapped in disbelief.

 

"You heard me~~~" Sooyun teased before running out of the booth.

 

"Aish, this girl," he muttered before running after her with a smile on his face.

Daehyun and Sooyun were strolling peacefully under the night sky with their hands intertwined. After such an eventful day of running away from the others whenever they appeared while trying to enjoy some hard-earned alone time together, they felt worn out to the bones. Sooyun turned her head to the side and met with Daehyun's gaze.

 

But it was totally worth it, they both thought.

 

The city was crowded with people now that it was nearing midnight. Everyone was waiting around, looking for good spots to watch the annual New Years fireworks. But Daehyun had a different idea in mind.

 

"Eo? Where are we going?" Sooyun asked as Daehyun tugged her away. Her question was answered as soon as they stood in line at a ferris wheel which loomed over them.

 

She blinked at it. "I didn't know there were Ferris Wheels set up in the city outside amusement parks."

 

Daehyun chuckled at her. "There usually aren't. This is just for the end-of-year celebrations, alone with a few other rides." 

 

"Ohhh, I see." She nodded her head in understanding and Daehyun couldn't help but to pinch her cheeks at her cuteness. She swatted his hands away as per usual before breaking out into a fit of giggles at his devastated expression. Soon it was their turn.

 

"Wow, the view here is just as amazing as it was in Lotte World last time," Sooyun breathed, her face glued to the glass window of the carriage. "Woooww." She pulled out her phone and started taking pictures as they rose higher and higher up into the twinkling night sky.

 

Daehyun grabbed her hands in his as soon as she was done. Staring into her eyes, he asked, "Do you know why I brought you here?"

 

"Because it's a romantic place for couples and the view is beautiful?" she replied readily without skipping a beat.

 

His eyebrows rose. "Well, yeah that too… but there's also another reason." Daehyun moved closer to her, wrapping his arms around her waist before resting his forehead on hers, the tips of their noses tickling the other's. "Do you know what it is?"

 

Sooyun paused before shaking her head lightly.

 

"It's because you left me like this, and my heart broke because of it. I want to recreate new memories over that old one. Happy memories," he finished with a smile.

 

It took a few seconds for Sooyun to register his words and when she did, her heart fluttered at his love for her.

 

"Then will you marry me, Jung Daehyun?" she suddenly said, shocking him yet again.

 

He flinched before stuttering out a "W-wha?"

 

She smiled sweetly at him. "You know Daedae, the others were actually pulling me away from you on purpose."

 

Daehyun's eyes widened and he frowned angrily. "I knew it! Those rascals!"

 

"Ei, calm down calm down~~~" She patted his back softly. "I overheard your mother telling the boys to do that so that you could realise how much you loved me and propose to me quickly." Sooyun started laughing. "So I decided to save you the trouble. I guess it was all your mother's doing all along, Daehyunnie."

 

He gaped at her for a few moments before shaking his head and heaving. "Ma will always be the same…"

 

"Well…" Daehyun started pulling a box from his jacket pocket. "These were meant to be couple rings, but I suppose it could be used for another reason."

 

He kneeled down on one knee before opening up the box before Sooyun's eyes, revealing two beautiful white gold rings.

 

"Will you, Lee Sooyun, marry me, Jung Daehyun?" he proposed, a gasp leaving Sooyun's lips. "We won't get married right now, since we're still too young. But I want us to sometime in the near future. I want to take care of you for the rest of our lives, be able to love you for the rest of our lives, be able to be with you for the rest of our lives. I promise to love you whole-heartedly and unconditionally. So…"

 

Daehyun got up from his kneeling position and gazed at her stunned face lovingly. "Will you marry me Sooyun?"

 

A wide smile graced her face. "You know, I already proposed to you just a few moments ago. You do realise that right?"

 

"Yeah," he replied. "But I want to hear the words directly from you."

 

Sooyun made a face before leaning in to peck his forehead. "Yes, Jung Daehyun. I will marry you."

 

Happiness encompassed his entire being as Daehyun felt like the happiest person on the face of the earth. He took the smaller ring and slid it onto her slim finger as she did the same for him. Daehyun pulled her into a hug from the waist.

 

"I love you wifey."

 

A tinkling laugh filled the carriage. "I love you too hubby," Sooyun replied, wrapping her arms around his neck.

 

Leaning towards the other, the two of them kissed just as the fireworks shot up into the sky, serving as a backdrop for their sweet moment together.

 

Even without the fireworks there, they could already feel it within their hearts.
