We are all sinners
Unlocked Doors
Sulli enjoyed staying in relative darkness. The glow of the stars against the night sky was hypnotizing to her. A small lamp was all that lit her room. Sulli tide her long black hair in a high bun and pushed her bangs to the side. A chewed pencil was on her lips as she passed the pages of her book. That night she had to finish her project. Suzy had handed her part and did it entirely wrong. Sulli tried to tell her but she never found her around the school grounds and she never answered the phone either. It was already past midnight so technically the assignment was for that day and Sulli needed the A.
She decided to stretch a little. She put on her teddy bear slippers. She had on a pajama pants and tube top to supposedly get to sleep at some point. Sulli jiggled the doorknob and pulled the door open. In the back of her head she had been hoping to find something outside but there was nothing.
So she stepped outside but right after she crossed the threshold she noticed a figure looming in the darkness. Her mind registered the shape quickly and she skidded to a halt even faster. She almost tumbled but was able to catch herself in time. The memories of the ghost girl flooded her head. She remembered her advice of not leaving the door unlocked, she remembered Yookyung’s words.
“Beautiful night,” said the girl. She was sitting on the rails, looking at the stars with no fear of falling.
“It is,” said Sulli tentatively. She was scared and trembling but her curiosity made her ask: “Who are you?”
She turned her head to look at Sulli, her hair hid her face. The small lights of the corridor’s walls were flickering and it was hard for Sulli to make out how she looked. The girl turned back to watch the sky.
“Someone who enjoys the night air.”
“You hurt Yookyung,” stated Sulli.
“Who?” asked the girl. Her head, still hidden in the shadows, turned again toward Sulli,.
“Yookyung,” repeated Sulli. “My classmate.”
“Oh… her.”
“Why did you do that?”
“She was mean,” said the girl. “Didn’t you want her to leave?”
“No. I didn’t. I-”
“You did.”
“Not like that.”
“Well we are all sinners, aren’t we? By thought, by action, by desire… One way or another. ”
The statement was followed by movement. She jumped off the rails. For some reason Sulli knew she didn’t need to panic and when she looked down the rails there was nothing there.
