Chapter 9

The Truth Cannot Be Hidden Forever

Ji-eun plopped down on her bed and yawned. She had finished her last two classes for the day and now its lunch time before she had free period for the rest of the day. It was a bit daunting having classes with Eunji but she believed she would get through, even without knowing anyone.

The door opened and Eunji walked in. Ji-eun waved at her cheerfully and Eunji shyly waved back, smiling a little.

“How was classes?” Ji-eun asked.

Eunji looked down still not quite used to having someone talking to her in a friendly way.

“It wasn’t too bad.” She answered.

“Really? What did you have?”

“Art.”

“Oh yes I remember! I bet you’re a really good artist!”

Eunji blushed a bit at the compliment. “Not really…” She murmured.

Ji-eun giggled, stood up and walked over to Eunji “can I sit here?”

Eunji nodded and she sat down. “Can I tell you about my classes too? I had Latin and mathematics! They were really interesting…” And Ji-eun went on and on about what she learnt while Eunji sat listening to her with a small smile on her face.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was free period and Ji-eun was bored out of her mind. So she decided to go out of her dorm for a bit and explore.

Ji-eun strolled down the corridor looking around, she was a few supernaturals sitting on some tables and chairs conversing to each other near classrooms. She passed a few elves and amazons who looked at her as she walked by them. She sent them a polite smile but was confused when they just looked at her weirdly and turned away.

Don’t others smile back at you if you smile at them? It’s only polite. She thought, shrugged and continued on her way.

As she neared one of the hallways, she spotted three familiar figures coming towards her direction. Oh, it’s them! The angels that were being mean to Eunji.

She quickly hid around a corner, peered out from behind it and watched the three angels chatter to one another loudly in the middle of the hallway.

Jiwoo flicked her hair, “do you think Kai will notice my new hairdo today?”

Kai? Ji-eun recalled Jiwoo mentioning that name before with Eunji. Who’s Kai? What’s so special about him?

The other two, Yeeun and Soobin nodded excitedly and giggled, “he sure will! I mean how did you get your hair to look so smooth and shiny?” Yeeun asked.

Jiwoo gave them a smug smile, “Miyeon gave me some of her pixie dust formula she had.”

“Omo, can you give me some?” Soobin pleaded to Jiwoo.

Ji-eun rolled her eyes, great. Not only are they mean but obsessed with their hair too.

Then an idea came to her head but she quickly dismissed the thought, no it’s too dangerous. What would Imo think if she saw me? Ji-eun was about to leave but she paused. But Imo isn’t here, and a little prank wouldn’t hurt right? I mean, as long as they don’t notice I’m here…

She crept closer to the corner of the wall and peered around to see that the three were still engrossed in their conversation. Should I tie shoelaces again? Or transform hair into frizzy knots?

Ji-eun chuckled at the thought. She then spotted a small flower pot at the base of a windowsill of one of the classrooms and a mischievous grin spread across her face.

Ji-eun hastily scanned the area to see if anyone was around before she whispered a spell. “Transverto.

Soobin screamed and pointed a shaking finger at Jiwoo’s hair, “SPIDER!!”

Jiwoo shrieked and jumped around, waving her hands around crazily while the other two leapt away from her, squealing.

Ji-eun giggled, that’s revenge for bullying Eunji. Thank goodness I can still use some simple spells. She then sighed and watched them, even if it lasts for a few seconds.

“Get it off, get it off, get it OFF!!”Jiwoo wailed, flicking her hair and finally a tiny spider dropped onto the floor and turned into a small pile of dirt.

“Oh my gosh, it was fake.” Yeeun gasped. Jiwoo stopped screaming and stared in shock. Her eyes then flashed furiously and she clenched her fists. “Who dared to do this?!” She growled murderously and Ji-eun gulped.

Oh dear. Time to go. She thought and quickly fled.

She ran and turned into a corridor when she bumped into a solid chest and fell, landing painfully on her behind. This is payback isn’t it? Imo always said that whatever you do to others, it’ll somehow come back to bite you in the bottom. Literally.

“Watch it.” A deep, harsh voice said. Ji-eun looked up to see Sehun glaring down at her with cold eyes before he walked passed and around the corner, his aura still quite suffocating.

Ji-eun shivered and stood up, rubbing her back as she continued down the corridor to her dorm.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ji-eun tossed and the bed. She couldn’t sleep. It had been two nights since she’s been at Mystical High and she was beginning to feel homesick.

She missed her room and her bed. And she especially missed her aunt. Ji-eun ran her fingers through her hair that had turned from straight back to her naturally wavy strands. She closed her eyes and tried to sleep but it was useless.

Sighing, she got out of bed, took out her cloak and quietly went out of the room, careful not to wake Eunji.

Ji-eun walked out of the school and slipped on her cloak, the hood shielding her face from the cold breeze of the night.

She walked up ahead a little, looking out into the forest but not yet entering. She longed to go visit her aunt but she had no idea how and which way to go.

Suddenly, a flash of light came from within the forest. She blinked and rubbed her eyes.

There it was again. The flash of light.

Curious, Ji-eun began to make her way into the forest towards the direction of the flash.

However after a while, the flash of light was gone and the forest was now replaced with darkness apart from the dim lighting of the moonlight shining through.

Ji-eun stopped walking when she realised the light was no longer appearing, “hmm I wonder what that was? Oh well.” She yawned and decided it was best to go back to sleep.

She turned around and halted, dread filled her heart. Which way was back again?

It was dark out and Ji-eun could barely see around the tall trees surrounding her. Why do I always get myself into these situations? She used to get lost all the time in the woods but she could always use a location spell to find her way back home. Sadly, a location spell was not part of the basics and therefore it was no use to Ji-eun. She tried to think hard about any of the simple spells that could help her but it seems they were all useless in this case. She scolded herself for being so stupid for following some random light otherwise she wouldn’t have gotten lost.

The more she thought, the more panicked she felt. Compose yourself Ji-eun, you’re not going to get anywhere if you don’t calm down.

Slowly, she walked forwards a few steps and started to sing softly as a way of calming her nerves. “Everything will be alright, tonight is the night. Stars will come out, wishes be granted. This all a dream come true~

A rustling of leaves made her halt abruptly. Ji-eun spun around and pulled her hood down a bit more over her face. But she couldn’t see anything apart from trees and darkness. She drew a sigh of relief when she heard a series of howls in the distance. Her eyes widened in frantic, wolves. That’s when she saw a pair of golden eyes staring directly at her.

She bit back a scream and stumbled back as the golden eyes came closer, a low growl rumbling in her direction.

It’s a werewolf. She clutched at her necklace tightly before she pivoted on her heel and bolted down a random pathway hoping the werewolf wouldn’t follow her.

Soon she saw a clearing ahead and ran towards it somehow making it out of the woods and back in front of the school. She looked back to see that the werewolf didn’t follow her and she breathed out relieved as she walked back to her dorm.

For some reason though, Ji-eun couldn’t help but think that the werewolf seemed familiar. Omo, what if that werewolf was one of the two beings from before at my house? His aura did feel strangely familiar…and really strong too. I should be careful. That werewolf could even be a student from Mystical High for all I know. Why was he there anyway? Did he recognise me? Ji-eun looked down and realised she was wearing her cloak and her hair was wavy. Her heart thumped wildly, eottoke?? If he really was one of those beings back at my house, he would’ve seen me before looking like this too! What if he finds out I am of witch blood?? Imo did say that only witches and warlocks where cloaks. And my hair was wavy. Oh why does this have to happen to me?

Ji-eun couldn’t wait to get back into bed. The next time she felt homesick, she’ll wait until its morning first to think about it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back in the forest, a large single dark brown wolf watched the hooded figure run out of the forest. What is she? I couldn’t smell any wood or rain on her like last time. Maybe I wasn’t close enough. But I should’ve been able to smell it from ten metres away let alone three. Too bad I couldn’t see her face properly. She really did look familiar though. The wolf couldn’t help but think. For a possible sorceress, she sure has a really good voice, maybe even better than an angel’s singing. But nonetheless the wolf’s eyes gleamed with hidden malice, I let you go this time but next time, I will find out what you really are.

The wolf turned and ran back to where his friends were. They were all in original form as he got there.

“About time Chanyeol, how many times do we have to call for you to come back?” Suho reprimanded.

“Yeah, you missed out on Baekhyun vomiting light.” A tanned male joked.

“Yah! I was not vomiting light, I just had too much energy that needed to be released and you know it would’ve been more dangerous if it came out of my hands.” Baekhyun protested.

Chanyeol ignored the two and transformed back into his original form “sorry, I got caught up in one of the tree vines.” He said to Suho.

D.O gasped, “don’t tell me you burnt them to free yourself.”

“Well how else do you expect me to get out.” Chanyeol deadpanned.

D.O fell onto his knees, “my tree vines.” He said sadly. He then glared at Chanyeol, “you should’ve just stayed stuck there.”

Chanyeol scoffed, “I’m not stupid.”

“Enough.” Suho ordered. “We agreed to go out for a run and be back within an hour. We’ve gone over by more than half an hour. It’s time we head back.”
