Chapter 8: The Party

International Student

Today was Taengoo’s birthday and I was keen to go and see her. We would see each other often at school, but we never really got to talk or hangout. This was my opportunity, my moment to finally have a good conversation with my dream girl. I got dressed making sure to wear one of my nice blue shirts to make sure she’d look twice at me. Fany wore a dress which surprisingly wasn’t pink, who would’ve known she had other colours. It was a bright yellow dress with white frills on it. I had to admit she did look beautiful.

“You ready to go Fany?”

“Yeah let’s hit the road!” she said with quite a lot of enthusiasm. She seemed just as keen as me to go to Taengoo’s party. I started to head towards the convertible and with all the excitement brewing with in me that I almost forget the most important thing to bring with me, the necklace. “Fany I forgot the present, wait up.” I quickly ran up the flight of stairs to get the gift and as I went back down using the railing as a slide to traverse the flight of stairs with more speed. “Okay, I’m ready Fany. Let’s go!”

On the way there the trip to Tae’s house was a sight to behold. Spring had truly come as all the flowers were blossoming showing fields upon fields of brightseeds. “I love spring over here. All the flowers just make you want to lie down in the fields and take a soothing nap in the cool spring breeze. Definitely one of my favourite seasons, well maybe close to summer. I can’t really decide between.” Fany said as she seemed to be visualising herself in a luscious field of flowers.

“I’ve never liked summer. The summer over in Australia is unbearable since I moved there from England. I much prefer the winter season ‘cause it doesn’t get that cold over in Australia. I do really miss the snow though, the only highlight of living in a cold country in my opinion.” Fany seemed really interested to know that I was from England and began to ask more questions about me.

“It’s weird, we’ve been living together for around a week now and I still don’t know much about you, so Harry where were you born? Where are your parents from? Do you have any siblings? Do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend? Sorry was that too many questions at once?” She said as she began to blush at the last question.

“Nah that wasn’t too many, umm well I was born in Philippines and so were my parents. I have one brother who’s three years older than me and no I don’t have any sort of committed relation with an individual right now, I hope in the coming months that’ll change.” As I said that Fany’s blush seemed to strengthen.

We finally arrived at the party and I didn’t expect to see as many people as were there. The house was crowded, in and around the entire estate. Was Tae secretly a party animal below that cute and friendly exterior?

I managed to find the cutie amongst the crowd. She was absolutely stunning in a simple black dress which accentuated her curvy figure.

Just like all the times before I just couldn’t help but stare at the work of art that was Taeyeon. Another figure snuck in from the crowd and began to cling onto Tae’s arm. It was Sica wishing Tae a happy birthday and giving her a warm friendly hug. I walked up to Taeyeon and waved “Hey! Taengoo happy birthday!” she walked up to me and also gave me a hug. At that moment time seemed to freeze for me. That moment was absolutely perfect and I wished that it would never stop.

Sadly, time caught up to me and reality came rushing back. We were separated by a guy with mid length, brunette hair. The stranger then pulled Taeyeon towards him and gave her one hell of a passionate kiss. As if they had been together for years. He finally spoke after letting up from the kiss. “Tae, let’s get out of here. I want you back, come on.” Was this the Baekhyun that Fany had told me on the first day of school?

Taeyeon’s repercussion to the kiss was a loud slap to the face, this caused everyone to stop and look at the situation. Tae then began to give the guy a passionate kiss back which confused the living sh*t out of me. “The slap was for you breaking my heart you , but the kiss was yes to getting back together.” NO!! I mentally was screamed my lungs out. This guy had cheated on Tae, at least that’s what Fany told me and she forgave him as if nothing ever happened?! I was infuriated and tears of frustration began to flow down my enraged face. Baekhyun turned to me and said “Sorry about that, didn’t know you were a girl. Just don’t get too close to Tae, you hear? Or you’ll have to deal with me. Let’s go Tae.” They walked off into the crowd making my tears only accumulate even further.

Luckily Fany helped me up then ran me out of the party and threw me into the car. My tears of anger were pouring out at this point, like a morning sprinkler.

“Harry you okay? Do you want to talk about what happened?” Honestly I didn’t, I couldn’t. Today was supposed to be the day I finally conversed with Tae and see if I could make my move. This wasn’t how this day was supposed to go! I looked into Fany’s eyes not saying a word. She seemed to understand that I was too upset to even reply. She started up the engine and drove off far away from the house.

After a few minutes she stopped and told me to get out of the car. I was still pissed off at Baekhyun and Tae, but I managed to say something to Fany. “Hey where are we?”

“Just follow me and shush.”

I was in no state to argue, I followed Fany through a long dirt path that seemed to have no end. We came across a gate and she kept going even though the sign explicitly said no trespassers. I still followed knowing I had nowhere else to go and didn’t really give a sh*t about anything at that point.

All we seemed to do was walk forever, until we reached a huge orchard of gorgeous Cherry Blossom trees. I fell to my knees in amazement, this beautiful sight seemed to just take all my worries and frustrations away.

“Aigoo, that fresh air is just the best right, Harry? Real stress reliever. So you wanna talk about what happened? I mean if you’re still upset we can just lie here for a bit? If you want?” I gave her a nod of approval for the lying down and it was definitely a relieving experience. Fany came closer and closer to me until we were sitting right next to each other under the Cherry Blossom. She then grabbed my hand and stared at me with her big brown eyes and said “Don’t worry about Baekhyun, Harry. He’s a player and Tae’s gonna realise that when it all goes wrong again. So don’t give up, fight for her and be there for her when she needs you. Because when that day comes that they break up you’ll be there to swoop in.” She gave me that signature eye smile of hers that I couldn’t ignore, thought I didn’t know that she felt like crying inside because of her very own advice.

“The fact that he’s gonna end up breaking her heart pisses me off so much Fany. I can’t just wait for that day. I need to try and convince Tae before that and get her to break it off with him this time.”

“You’re right and I’ll help you. She doesn’t deserve that kind of treatment so I’ll help you break them okay Harry?” I quickly went for a hug as I couldn’t help but feel so much gratitude to Fany. She really was a great friend to me and I really wished I could do the same for her if she ever needed my help for a guy or girl.

“Thank you so much Fany. This really means a lot to me.” She rubbed my back and continued to comfort me. “Fany do you have any girl or guy on your mind that you want me to help you with?” She hesitated at the question.

“Umm, nothing comes to mind Harry. So don’t worry about me.” She forced out a laugh and seemed to have something or someone on her mind that she wasn’t telling me about. “Who is it Fany? You can trust me I swear?” she hesitated yet again.

“What are you talking about? There’s really no one Harry.” I didn’t understand why she was hiding it from me since I really wanted to help.

From that moment I made it my mission to find out who it was and return the favour to Fany. We lied in the grass for what seemed like hours watching the sunset. It was a really romantic moment, if I didn’t have my eyes set on Tae I may have fallen for Fany at that moment. While Fany was looking off in the horizon I took the pink box out of my pocket and opened it. The gift that was meant for Tae, but it never got to her so I decided to give it to my bestfriend, Fany. I took the necklace and put it on her from behind which startled her a little. She waited for me to finish putting it on her before she asked “Umm why are you giving me this?”

“I owe you big time Fany, so I might as well start making it up to you now.” When she heard that she couldn’t hold in her smile any longer and began to blush.

Chapter 20: It was a pleasure to read this short story. During the first chapter, i had in mind that the short story could turn out quite goofy, but i was surprised by the dramatic outcome. Worth a read when you're thinking of killing time. 11/10 bruh. Keep on writing.
