Okay, here we go he thinks. He reaches over to try to pull her seatbelt over but he immediately feels out of place, and awkward so he gives up. Naeun though, is moved by his forwardness and thinks of the half-hearted action as cute. She decides to start the conversation first.

“I’ve... never been in a car alone with a man. This is my first time” she says quitely.

This sudden statement puts Taemin at ease. She has just as much experience as he does!

“This is my first time too.” he says

The two spend the car ride in an air of embarrassment and silence. Curious of what the other one is thinking, curious of where they are going. Finally Taemin breaks the silence.

“Do you like extreme sports?” he asks with genuine curiosity. 

“Oh. That sounds fun.” Naeun says. Doing an activity like this makes it feel less like a date to her. It’s more of a fun activity between friends. This relaxes her.
“Really?” Taemin says with astonishment. She’s an interesting girl indeed. 

“I can tell that we are going to get along really well.” he adds.
“I’ve always been interested in extreme sports.” she says.

“...I’d like to do many active things together. How does that sound?” he asks eagerly.

She nods.

“But when are you going to be more comfortable around me?” he smiles.

“Um...” she struggles for words.

“If I ask you to be more comfortable around me right now, do you think you could do it?” he asks.

“..um.. Yes.”
“Really?”

“Yes.”

“Okay. Let’s try speaking informally.”

“Okay. What should I say...?” she asks quietly.

They suddenly become quiet. 

“Haha, suddenly we have nothing to say.” they laugh.

“I’m...not sure what I should call you..” she rubs her neck suddenly becoming self-conscious. 

“Taemin......... oppa? I don’t get to hear ‘oppa’ very often...” he says while staring straight ahead. 

“Okay, Taemin-oppa. What’s your favorite food?” she asks, trying to glaze over the fact that she called him ‘oppa.’
“I like meat!” he says with a bright smile.

“Oh! Me too!” they both look at each other for the first time while driving along the coast. The two feel brief zap like electricity. They quickly look away.

“Wow, I’ve never met a girl with so much in common with me!” he can’t contain his smile.

She looks over at him once again, and notices a bracelet on his wrist.

“Is that a rosary bracelet?” she asks. 

“Yeah, I never take it off. It gives me strength. Do you have one too?”

“I did.. but I lost it.”

“Oh really? Do you lose things easily?”

“Yeah, I’m constantly losing things.”

“Really? Me too. The fans call me magic hand... who’s going to take care of us when we’re together? We have so much in common!”

Another brief pause in their conversation.

“Did you know the press just released that we are doing this show together?”

“Oh really?” he asks nervously.

“Yeah we were ranked in the top ten most searched items.”

“What rank were we?”

“I was second...oppa was third.”

“Sorry who was third?” he asks teasingly. 

“Oppa.”

He smiles, being called this by her for the first time. He really liked the sound of it, but it meant more coming from her lips.
“Have you ever thought about dating someone?” he asks.

“Yeah. There have been a few guys who have pursued me.”

“Oh there were? And did you like them?”

“No comment. And what about you? There must have been girls...”

“Yes. There were. But I’m a shy person, I don’t pursue them because it makes me uncomfortable. I don’t really know how to speak to girls because of my inexperience, so I prefer to hang out with my guy friends.” suddenly thinking of Kai and the rumors, “but it’s nice hanging out with you.” he adds with a smile. Although he knew this is what the producers wanted him to say, it didn’t feel insincere.
