The Lonely Crab

The Twenty-Fifth Tale

Being a student at Hogwarts wasn't easy, especially for a muggleborn who could barely understand the most simplest of things.

It frustrated him. He couldn't get things right. He tried and tried, and spent most of his time studying and learning as much as he could.

He almost cried looking at his grade. He didn't appreciate the look of sympathy that his housemates were giving him, and he didn't especially appreciate the way the Slytherins we're jeering and sneering at him.

Any more of these failures, was going to result with him repeating another year.

He envied Hermione Granger, the top student of his year; she was a muggleborn just like him. Seeing her ace academically was like a giant kick to the face—he felt a bundle of shame being shoved forcefully down his throat.

He envied Harry Potter, the Boy-Who-Lived—he envied the red-headed comic-relief, Ronald Weasley—he envied all of their adventures and heroic deeds. Heck, he even envied Draco Malfoy, one of the most supercilious s he had ever met.

He was a no one.

He was destined for failure. He knew he didn't belong. He knew whatever he did was futile.

He was never meant to be here.

"W-why? Why are you doing this, N?" Harry hacked, clutching his side. He struggled to support himself on the ground; cuts and bruises all over his body.

"Someone like you would never understand," he answered, voice flat.

Harry glanced mournfully at a body of a girl in a pool of blood.

("I plan on saving him, Harry. Even if it means giving up my own life. He'll change... I know he will.")

"N, you were never a burden to us... you were never a burden to her. You were never weak. You were one to never give up. You kept on moving forward no matter how much the others treated you. She admired your strength, Hakyeon. She believed in you. She loved you very much."

"Heh, too bad, Potter. I don't fall for that sappy bull anymore. Maybe if you had come a bit earlier, maybe I wouldn't have become the person I am right now."

His face twisted into a sneer as he raised his wand above his head.

"See you in hell, Harry Potter."

("Heroes don't exist."

"Heroes do exist."

He glared at her.

She averted her gaze and shuffled her feet nervously.

"Sometimes... they just... don't come at the right time you expected them to be.")

The heroes you spoke of never came.
