Ending PageIt was a regular day, like any day. Bright, refreshing and full of sunshine. But since the rain the day before, it has been a little chilly. Hyun-Jae took her put on her fuzzy purple jack as well as her favourite old pink scarf and wrapped it around her hunched back and shoulders before she picked up her basket for berry-picking.
Hyun-Jae had just opened the door and ready to head out for her daily routine when someone called for her, “Halmoni!” a boy cried after her. Stopping in her tracks, she turned around to see who was calling for her.
“What is it sonja?” she asked sweetly.
“You forgot your hat. I don’t want Hyun-Jae Halmoni have to be blinded by the sun out there.” he smiled, handing her her sunhat. Smiling back, she gladly took the hat and placed it perfectly on her whitening hair.
“How do I look?” she joked.
“More beautiful than any woman in the world.” he replied.
“You and the boys better behave yourselves while I’m gone.” she reminded.
“Yes Halmoni. But you need to remember to-”
“To get back by sundown and not wander off too far. I remember. My memory hasn’t gotten that bad yet sonja.” she laughed.
“You know best. Are you sure you don’t need one of us going with you?” he asked worriedly.
“You know I like being to myself when I’m in the nature,” she complained, “stop being so worry some. You’re even worse than your father.”
“Don’t talk about him.” he looked away, hating to bring up the memory of his godforsaken, no for good father who has left him and his grandmother to chase his own dreams only to end up in prison.
“Anyways, I will be back soon before you know it. Just make sure to look after the farm for me.” She planted a gentle kiss on his cheek and gave him a warm smile.
“We will Halmoni. Stay safe.” he waved his grandmother goodbye as did she to her grandson.
Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and more. Hyun-Jae loved the outdoors and nature itself as it provided her with food, shelter and relaxation. It soothed her soul. Sometimes, she would whistle and and sing with the birds. Sometimes she may sit and just connect with her environment. The sun will always be wherever she went; leading her, guiding her and making sure that she was never alone although it may seem otherwise to others. But it always made her feel good. She embraced every moment whenever she was alone with the great outdoors.
However, today was a little different. When she has made it to the northern part of the forest where most of the roots grew, she saw something unexpected. It was a helpless boy covered in dirt. Well, it seemed they seemed like a boy
