The Glass Door

You Again?

Sighing in deeply, she slowly opened the closet. Scanning through her dresses, she struggled to choose one. Aish. Thought it would be easier to choose.

What could she do? It seemed like 10 years was enough to make her scared from ever setting foot on a party again with so many Korean people watching. It had been only days since she had came back to Korea from the U.S. Though she was happy to be back, she couldn't help but feel nervous. Now, her family and friend's expectations were even higher than before. She had studied in Harvard for god's sake. Of course they would expect her to behave even better than usual.

However, there was a piece of her missing. She didn't feel like dressing up or getting her hair and make up done. It almost felt like she didn't care. There was nobody she was trying to impress. Why would she even try?

Of course she had a hard time trying to understand that there's absolutely no way that he's coming to greet her and welcome her back. If anything, he probably didn't want to see her face again. That was why she was reluctant when her excited mother had suggested to make a welcome party and invite all their friends and families including her friends from high school too. He wouldn't come. Why should she have a party anyway??

Trying to concentrate on the dresses, she gentally caressed each as she passed them.  Not this one; it's too short. Not this one; it's too formal. Ahh. The red one is too simple. What about the black one? No, it'll look like I'm trying so hard.

Her hand came across the beautiful white dress. It was simple yet elagent. It was short and skinny; enable to show her curves perfectly. Only one person would buy her such beautiful dress without even having to try. Her hands almost passed the dress but then, came back to it. How long was she going to ignore him and his memories? She just had to move on.

Brushing her straightened hair, she put on a pink lipstick as she wore her white pumps. Picking up her clutch, she checked herself one last time before walking out. A pretty safe look.

Opening her car's door, she slid in as she answered her phone. "Yes omma. I'll be there soon... Sorry, I overslept a bit.. Yeah, see you. Bye."

Searching for a parking spot, she parked her car nearby her mom's restaurant 30 minutes later as she almost ran. She was really late.

Coming in, she was greeted by more than 100 people surrounding her. Each hugging her or saying welcome back, she felt dehydrated by the crowdedness. Smiling sweetly, she said her greetings as well, thanking everybody for coming. Only when she was left alone, she scanned over the room. Her family and friends were all together, laughing and having fun. There was a table full of food, all decorated delicately. Suddenly, she caught her friends, Woo Bin and Se Young waving at her and signaling her to come over.

Smiling, she walked to them and sat down. "Hey guys."

Woo Bin's reaction was a bear hug as everybody laughed at Shin Hye's shocked face, trying to breath.

"Yah! Woo Bin ah! Let her breath!" Se Young said as her other friends laughed.

"Wae? I missed her!" He complained as Se Young slapped his arm. "What's with you?"

"What's with me? You're killing her like that!" Se Young retorted.

Giggling at her friends, she thought about how much she had missed them. Everybody knew how they had that soft spot for each other.

The rest of the night passed, chatting, dancing, drinking, eating. Though Shin Hye was expected to have fun and joke around like she does normally, she couldn't help but stare at the door as if someone would come any minute. It was like she was waiting for him to come, even if it meant having her party ruined.

Looking at Shin Hye, both Se Young and Woo Bin glanced at each other, knowing fully well why she's staring at the door.

"Hey, Shin Hye ya?" Se Young called.

Looking back, she smiled. "Yes Eunnie?"

"So you have filled the applications for this new job, right?" She asked, trying to distract her.

"Ne. I actually have an interview this upcoming Monday." She nodded sweetly.

Smiling, Se Young nodded. "That's good. Ahh. Let me go to the kitchen to see if your mom needs help."

"Ani! I'll go!" She almost got up.

"Nope, you're not going anywhere. This is your party and you still want to work after coming back in 10 years??" Woo Bin smiled. "Sit down." He dragged her back on her sit. She looked at Se Young helplessly as she walked away, smiling as she shook her head.

"Ya! Should I hit you in the head??" She complained, raising her right hand.

"Heh. You can still hit, I see." He chuckled.

Chuckling back, she turned her head around, staring back at the glass door.

"Don't wait for Hyung. You know he'll not come."

Surprised, she turned around. "Eh?"

"Hyung said he's pretty busy and all so he didn't come. Since he didn't come, his parents didn't either seeing as.. How it bothered him. They just told me to tell you that they're so sorry, welcome back and that they'll meet you later."

She looked down disappointed. They both knew that it was all a excuse. Min Ho just didn't want to come, period.

Seeing his friend's sad expression, he sighed."I'll be back, ok? There is a call that I have to make."

Nodding, she faked a smile letting him know that she'll be ok. He didn't believe her though, but had no choice.

Grabbing her glass of red wine, she drank it slowly as she tried to calm her feelings down. He wasn't coming except...

Little did she knew that behind that very glass door, a tall man with a pained heart was standing, watching her every move so he could remember them when he misses her and is about to lose it.

The white dress he had bought for her, her glamorous hair and face, it had to be illegal to look that good. Touching the glass pane, he leaned his head against it as he breathed deeply. There was no way he was going in. In fact, it was even wrong for him to come this close even if it was this tempting.

All that mattered was that she was ok. His work here, was done.

*************

My heart was full of pain, longing for your warm embrace

Too bad that I couldn't come closer, as if an imaginary wall separated us

I guess me and you have to go our separate ways
