Unexpected.
Memories of Her.
A week had passed since Lay had been to the doctors the first time, and was on his way back to take
the test right now. As he had predicted his friends had been no help to him over the past seven days,
and he hadn't remembered anything further. His money had arrived on his doorstep this morning
again without a trace of whoever left it there. Lay had decided to leave a note again, this time so he
could find out more about himself. It was obvious to Lay that whoever 'Suho and the gang' were,
they knew a lot more about him than he did. But they were good people - the name Suho fit like a
glove. Their note and money had helped him greatly to live as much of a normal life as he could,
and he desperately wanted to meet them, to thank them. He felt his notes were not enough.

"Hyung!" Kai called, walking smoothly around the corner and into the meeting room where Suho
was organising certain files. The leader looked up, a welcoming gaze directed to Kai.
"You're up early." He said. "You've delivered the money then?" Kai nodded, pulling a chair out from
the table and sitting down. Suho's cheery attitude dropped once he noticed Kai's troubled
emotion. "Everything ok?" Kai nodded.
"I think..." He paused, unable to find the right words. "I think he remembers something..." Suho took
a sharp breath in, taking the note gently from Kai's quivering hands. Suho began to read the note aloud,
the more he read, the more exasperated his voice became.
"Dear 'Suho and the gang'. Thank you again for the money, now please let me ask you a question. I can't
remember anything from before the crash you told me about; but every now and then I see these scenes
in my head that seem so familiar that I can't deny there's something special about them. Every time there's
this girl, and I know she's real because I bumped into her on the street one day, but I haven't seen her since.
And then the other day I started hallucinating, but I remembered something and it's like I never forgot.
Can you tell me more about the 'tree of life'? I wanna make sure it's not just another dream... Answers
would make me very happy. Right now my head is a mess. Thank you guys for everything, from Lay."
Suho put the paper down slowly and stared at the desk in front of him for a while.
"How is it possible that he remembers?" Kai asked. "That shouldn't be possible. How does he know what
the tree of life is?" Suho shook his head.
"I don't know..." He whispered. "Lay's powers and memories were taken from him at least a month and a half
ago, he couldn't have regained them because there should be nothing on earth that is alike to anything here.
The only way he would know the tree of life is if the power was duplicated, but that's impossible." Kai thinned
his lips in thought.
"Maybe..." He began, but quickly dismissed his idea. Suho raised his head.
"Maybe what?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Well, he mentioned something about a girl..." Kai paused, and Suho sighed.
"But there's no way she could have gone to earth, and even less of a chance of her knowing where Lay lives...
You didn't tell her, did you?"
"Of course not!" Kai replied. "That could be dangerous." Suho nodded.
"As long as you know." He said. "But this still concerns me. If his memories are returning then there's a chance
his powers are returning with them. He could be in danger from both living on earth while his powers need
nourishment from the tree of life, or worse." Suho paused, drawing a breath. "The others." Kai nodded, eyes
to the ground.
"ENDO isn't the only planet out there that was against us before the eclipse." he mumbled.
"That's right." Suho said grimly. "And we don't want anyone trying to invade our home or earth for their own
personal gain."
"Should I tell the others?" Kai asked. Suho shook his head.
"No. I think for now we keep this to ourselves and try to figure it out. The guardians have just been through a
war after all, and we don't want to put any un-needed pressure on them during their recovery... Or ____ for that
matter. She's still down about Lay, and telling her about his memories might get her hopes up on false account."
Kai nodded and left the note with Suho, leaving the room with a soft click of the door. Suho stayed still for a
brief moment, pursing his lips in thought.
"It couldn't have been Amber..?"
~*~*~
Lay had convinced the others that he could go to the doctors by himself; the tests were for him and not them,
after all. The soft mid-morning sunlight made the street look peaceful and happy, leaving a content smile on
the edge of Lay's lips. Leaves danced in the wind in circles around his feet as he bobbed his head to the music
that blasted from his favourite purple headphones. He heard a faint yelling, but decided to ignore it. It was
probably kids anyway. He began to hum to himself, his soft voice resonating through the air with a certain
tenderness to it.
Another yell was heard, and this time Lay swore he heard his name. He lifted one side of his headphones up
and listen for a few seconds, putting it back down once he didn't hear any more yelling. It must have been
something in his music that he heard. Lay suddenly fell forward as a pair of arms slung themselves around Lay's
neck and swung heavily around to see his face. Lay just stood still in utter confusion.
"Laaaaaayyyyy!!!" The girl cried, her arms wrapping around Lay's neck and rubbing her knuckles on his head
for a noogie. "How ya been!? Wait, don't tell me. Oh no, do! Who won? Should I be happy or sad? Why are you
on earth? What's going on on our planet?" The short brown-haired girl fired questions at Lay like bullets, Lay
becoming more confused by the second. Lay looked at her with wide eyes, unsure as to how he should handle
such a situation. The girl - sensing his confusion and unease - unlatched herself from him and stared at him in
concern.
"Who..."
"It's me Lay, don't ya recognise me?" The girl asked, looking slightly hurt. "What happened to ya?" Lay shook
his head at the girl and tried to think of who she was. Maybe she knew him before the crash. He felt bad for her
though. She seemed genuinely happy to see him and he had no idea who she was.
"I don't think I know you." Lay replied. "What's your name?" The girl looked almost scared.
"It's me, Amber!" She paused. "You seriously don't recognise me..?" Lay shook his head. He didn't know an
'Amber'. Not that he could remember.
"Did I know you before the crash?" Lay asked, putting his headphones around his neck.
"Crash?" She asked. "Oh wait - don't tell me you... You're mortal, aren't you? You used up your powers, didn't
you?" She started to panic gripped her hair.
"Mortal? Powers? Who are you?" Lay asked, starting to worry himself.
"I told you, I'm your friend Amber!" she said, tears threatening her eyes. "I died in the war, I-"
"But if you died, how are you still alive?" Lay asked. "And what war!?"
"Listen, I can't tell you everything... But the reason I'm still here is because I died on your planet. When a guardian
dies on your planet they are given a second life on earth, but as a mortal. If someone on earth has powers they are
unaware of and they die on earth, they are sent to you planet as their second life. Like that Ren kid." Lay's head
was spinning. Second life? His planet? Ren? Was he meant to know what all of this was? Lay shook his head
and sighed.
"I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about. I need to get going now, or else I'll be late for my doctors
appointment." Lay tried to walk past Amber, but she gently grabbed his arm to stop him.
"At least tell me if ENDO is ok..." Lay froze, a bright light covering his field of vision, small, faded images appearing
along with sounds. They were memories. His memories.
A man burst through the door that lead into the dark training room. Lay looked up through his blurred vision, almost
thankful for the distraction but at the same time so afraid that this man would be even angrier about the situation.
"&*(^%, you're just in time! Lay and - " One of the men in the room yelled, walking over to the other.
"We don't have time for that right now!" The man yelled, taking the others aback.
"@(#*$^, what's -"
"They're here." The man panted. "ENDO are here on $%#@... They're here for the core." Lay felt sick to his
stomach. That was all he knew. ENDO was here, and his chance of seeing the girl again lessened. The girl
beside him was shaking, afraid of what was to happen. The room was silent. Lay knew as well as the others
that the man would never joke about something as serious as that. This was no drill. This was real. Lay held
the girl tightly in his arms to comfort her, and also out of fear that they would be separated.
"@^$%@, @*, and *%$&@ are above ground stalling them. @*#($&, we need a plan." The man said
seriously.
"Alright." One man nodded. There was a three second silence before the man spoke again. "It would make more
sense for us to hide ____ until we are sure of their plan. They wouldn't just come here for a visit we know that
much. I nominate Lay to watch over her in hiding." One man stepped forward abruptly, as if to protest the
nomination. "As a medic, he will be able to heal her in the event of any injury." The man frowned but calmed
down. "@^, take Sulli as a hostage without letting the others know she's gone. Question her until she tells
you ENDO's plan, and then report to me. I'll create a new plan from there. Everyone else, get them as far away
from the city as you possibly can. The expanse outside the city would be ideal." The man said quickly. The other
men nodded, looks of concentration on their faces. Everyone in the room put their hands in the middle of the
circle they had created.
"We are - ONE!" Their chant resonated through the walls before everyone dashed off, leaving only Lay, another
man and the girl in the dark, empty room.
Not all the names or details were there, but he knew it was another kind of memory returning to him. Lay was still
for so long that Amber thought there was something wrong.
"Lay?" she asked, gently shaking his shoulder. He didn't reply. She shook him again.
"Lay, are you ok?" Lay suddenly snapped to attention and grabbed Amber by the shoulders, looking into her wide
and surprised eyes.
"Amber!" He said, bringing her into a friendly hug. "I'm so sorry I didn't remember you! ENDO!" Lay paused,
trying to remember. "I remember ENDO, but I don't know what war you're talking about, I'm sorry." Amber laughed
and playfully shoved him away.
"It's ok Lay! You don't need to apologise." She said happily. "I know what's happened so I can't tell you much without
it being dangerous to you. But I suggest you don't go to the doctors. It'll only attract attention." She said, placing a
hand on his shoulder. She gave a curt smile before walking off, slightly disappointed, and also concerned.
"Good luck Lay... You'll need it."
