Best, Absolute, Perfect.
Memories of Her.
"Hey, it's me." The conversation started off as a casual one. Nothing sinister, nothing new. Yongguk picked
up his sleek, black cellphone and made a call to the man he needed to discuss their newest plan with.
"What do you want, I was in the middle of talking to him." His voice was smooth, almost frightening to
Yongguk.
"Ah, sorry about that." Yongguk said gruffly, shoving his hand into his pocket. "But we got some news."
"Oh?" was all the other line said.
"And a plan."
"Well then by all means fire away. What's your plan?" Yongguk hated the carefree attitude of this man, but
he had no choice other than to abide by it.
"Determined from various encounters, we have reason to believe he is not alone." Yongguk said formally.
"ENDO Guardian Amber is with him, helping him to remember. We don't know how she is alive, but this
means that EXO and ENDO are cooperating again as we thought, and there could be further threats to
our initial plan."
"Amber is alive..?" The other line spoke. "Interesting, what do you propose?"
"Lay's other friends could be helping him remember in other ways. My last report shows his fighting style
regained with Amber present, and other reports show remembrance of significant locations while his other
friends are present. My proposal for you is that we assassinate each of Lay's companions to prevent further
risk of memory restoration." The man on the other line stayed quiet for a long time, thinking the decision over.
"I agree." He finally said. "I trust you'll do it as inconspicuously as possible. If not, you'll answer to me."
Yongguk breathed out, surprised that this man would agree so easily.
"B.A.P are known throughout the universe for their assassination techniques. It'll be like they never existed."
he replied, before hanging up the phone.
~*~*~
Yongguk walked out into the small room with his five other comrades waiting for their next order. They
stared up at him in silence, waiting to hear their answer.
"He gave it the go-ahead." Yongguk said coldly. "From now on Lay isn't our only target."
"So what, if we see them on the street we kill them? How is this gonna work?" Himchan asked.
"Using our abilities is permissible only for the purposes of assassinations, do I make myself clear?" He
aimed the last part at Zelo, watching the boy shrink. Zelo nodded, avoiding eye-contact with the man.
"Which reminds me. Zelo," Himchan pulled the boy up from his seat to make him stand regimented.
"What?" Zelo spat, frowning as his arm was almost yanked from its socket.
"Don't give me that attitude! You've been selected to do a scouting mission, so don't screw it up this time!"
"Why me!?" Zelo asked. He didn't decline the order, he couldn't. He just wanted to know why him out of
everyone else.
"Because no one else wants to! We decided last night, now get going!" Yongguk yelled, beating his hand on
the table to intimidate Zelo. The younger frowned and threw a coat on over his thin black t-shirt.
"Fine." Zelo huffed, slamming the door behind him. He didn't care if the others got mad at him. They would get
mad regardless of what he did, they just loved to make Zelo feel unsafe. It was the middle of the day, a scouting
mission was not ideal. Zelo swore under his breath as he could only think that his so called comrades wanted to
get rid of him for a while - give him the tedious jobs. Scouting. Zelo blew a raspberry at the very notion of the
mission. All it consisted of was spying on everyone close to Lay, or Lay himself. Nothing exciting, nothing that
required skill.. Just a mission for a dog. His face suddenly turned a slightly pinker shade as he saw a very familiar
girl sitting by herself outside a cafe. So not to look suspicious, Zelo bought a coffee with some money he had taken
from Himchan while he wasn't looking and brought it outside. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw she was
still there.
"Hey." He said, sitting down across from her. "You look down, care to tell me why?" She looked up with a blank
expression, her eyes sparkling in the midday sunlight.
"I'm sorry, who are you?" She asked, tilting her head slightly. It was true that she was down, but who was this
stranger to judge?
"Oh, sorry!" Zelo rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "I go by Zelo, we've met once before..."
"Oh, right! Well my name is Hyoyeon." She didn't actually remember meeting him but thought it would make things
less awkward if she pretended to. "And I'm down simply because of boy troubles." Zelo looked a little down-
heartened when he heard 'boy troubles'. It meant she probably already had a boyfriend.
"Who's this boy that giving you troubles? I'll rough him up for ya!" Zelo thumped his thumb on his chest and grinned,
trying to make her smile. She did in return and brushed the blonde hair back from her face.
"He's a nice guy, he just..." She trailed off, uncertain of whether to continue telling a stranger her problems.
"...Who is he?" Zelo asked softly. She looked up from her iced chocolate to make eye contact with Zelo.
"His name is Lay..." At that name Zelo clenched his fists. This was worse than he could imagine. The most beautiful
girl he had ever seen was now in great danger. She was Lay's friend, and that meant that now she was a target not
only to the most dangerous assassins in the universe, but more importantly to him.
~*~*~
"Scouting mission..." Himchan scoffed.
"Shut up." Yongguk hissed. "You know he's the sharpest out of everyone here. If we send him scouting, we get answers."
He stood up, heading to his room.
"Where are you going? Not sulking, are you?" Himchan sneered. Yongguk stopped, clenching his fists. Sometimes
Himchan took it too far. Yongguk grit his teeth and ignored Himchan, beginning to walk again. He had to make a quick
visit to his home planet, just to be sure of how much time he really had left. He chanted a short, rhythmic spell and a portal
opened in front of him. Yongguk look to his left to check the locked door to his room and stepped through the portal.
A desolate landscape greyed in front of him, and all he remembered suddenly went back to being bleak. There
was no power in this land, there was nothing. That was their mission - to get power back to Mato. If they were
successful in sabotaging EXO and harvesting the power from the tree of life, they could have power for their
planet. Of course they could have stolen the core, but it was far too dangerous to step into the midst of a war
that was not their own. The only way to ensure a successful sabotage, is if the medic was out of the picture.
That way once the guardians were down, they would stay that way.
Yongguk's footsteps crunched over gravel as he remembered why he was here. He stared up to the large, dirty
building that loomed over the sky itself. It was in this building, this old hospital, where his gravely ill 10-year-
old sister was waiting for him and the rest of B.A.P to return power to Mato. Waiting, so she could live. Without
power of any kind on Mato, the chances of anyone surviving were slim, but those who needed medical attention
had even slimmer chances. There was no solar power, for the sun had faded. There was no electricity of any kind,
as the wires would not conduct. There was nothing.
He heard the moans and groans of those dieing and in pain, but had to keep walking. He wasn't there for them.
He had promised his sister that he would visit her at least once every couple of months. He had left it a little late
this time, so he was even more eager to see her. The last time he had seen her she looked pale and small. Her
voice was fading and her eyes sunk back in her head. Her voice echoed through his head like a tiny chiming of
bells, so fragile it was like the sound itself could break.
"Will you come back?" It asked, so soft and light - the sound he imagined clouds would make if they could talk.
"Of course." He would always reply, his voice soothing to her. "I'll come back with power for Mato, and then you'll
get better. I promise."
"Thank you oppa." She would squeak in reply. "I'll be waiting, I'm counting on you ok?" Yongguk would smile and pat
her head. "I love you, oppa."
"I love you too."
Yongguk smiled a tiny, unnoticeable smile and quickened his pace. Although he didn't have any power this time, he
was eager to see his sister. Eager to hear her voice again, eager to hold her tiny hand in his. He loved her more than
any older brother had ever loved a younger sister, and he wasn't prepared to let her die. He would rather give his own
life trying to get power back to Mato, than sit around doing nothing while she slowly lost out. Although others were
around him, calling out for help from one of the planets few warriors, all he could hear were his slapping
footsteps and pounding heart. It had been so long since he had seen her, since he had heard her voice, since he had
held her in his arms like family - the only family he had left.
He approached her room, a bright and excited grin lining his lips as he turned the corner with his face bright and
animated. His eyes shone with a certain intensity that only surfaced in times like these - times when he would be able
to see his sister. Faster, faster. His footsteps became rapid without him even noticing.
It was only when he entered her room, that all light faded from his eyes, and all excitement died within him.
He slowly approached her, his breaths becoming short and panicked, tears filling up his eyes. His steps forward were
forced and shaky, like someone had stripped him of everything.
"Yo... Yongmi..?" His voice broke as he stared at the unthinkable in front of him. His younger sister Yongmi lie still on
the hospital bed, pale and deceased. Her soul had left her body only a few days ago, leaving nothing but the empty,
familiar shell of Bang Yongmi. Yongguk let out a loud, pained cry - more anguished than anyone else in the hospital
for certain. He fell to his knees, clutching his face and his heart in his weathered hands while he wept loudly. He had
lost his motive to continue, he had lost his incentive to live. The worst and most torturous part of it all was that he lost
the last member of his family - his precious younger sister - the only person he had ever loved besides his late parents.
He had promised her life, and been too late to keep his word. Yongguk gently took her thin, fragile hand in his and held
it to his face, trying to stop his tears for her. Nothing was ever fair. He had taken too long, and paid the price. He gently
kissed her hand before letting his head fall limply to rest on the bed next to her, shaking with silent tears. There was
time for grief now and only now, as he had made his path clear. No other inhabitant of Mato would die because he
took too long. He wouldn't let it happen again.
"I'm sorry..." He breathed, his voice hitching. He apologised over and over, shutting his eyes tightly and wishing like
hell that this was just a bad dream. It wasn't, and he knew that all too well. He had lost his sister to a powerless planet
and a serious illness, and as far as he was concerned; it was all his fault.
