Sabotage.
Memories of Her.
Lay decided to sit and wait the next night that his money was to be dropped off. He had set a trap.
It all seemed a little elaborate and over the top; others may think he was a crazed kidnapper, but all
he saw in himself was pure determination. If he wanted answers, he would get them one way or
another. He made it look like he was sleeping inside, taking the keys with him and locking the door.
Lay had stayed inside until 10:39pm, before venturing outside into the rose bushes that covered
his front yard.
Atop the front door sat an inconspicuous net that, once Lay let go of the rope he held tightly, would
fall and trap Kai once he delivered the money. His plan was brilliant - he thought it was at least. Lay
yawned and looked at his watch. It had just passed 2am, and he was finding it hard to stay awake.
He pulled the blanket over his shoulders even tighter and opened and shut his eyes a few times to wake
himself up. A while later when Lay's watch read 3:46am, he was ready to give up. He yawned once
again, tears forming at the sides of his eyes, when a sudden movement made him freeze. Curling black
smoke was harder to see at this time of night, but Lay wouldn't miss it for anything. Every muscle in
his body tensed as he waited for Kai to bend down and put the envelope on the 'welcome' mat. The
second he did. Lay let go of the rope and sprung from the bushes. The net fell down and over top of Kai,
the more the younger struggled, the more caught up he got. Lay rushed to him, gripping his shoulders
tightly, it had only been an instant since the net dropped, and Lay knew he couldn't waste time. All he
could focus on is that he didn't want Kai to teleport away. Deep in his mind he was panicking, but at the
same time there was a strange tranquility about him. Lay looked into Kai's panicked eyes, the younger
thrashing about, his eyes and head darting side to side like a bird trapped under the paws of a ravenous
cat. He could see it in Kai's eyes; the panic, the fear, the unmistakable will to escape. The second Lay
made eye contact with Kai, something clicked within the both of them and Kai began to panic even
more. He let out a high-pitched whimper as he wrenched himself from Lay's grip.
"What did you do!?!" He cried. "What did you do to me!?!?" Kai gripped his hair and shut his eyes
tightly, shaking his head back and forth.
"I caught you!" Lay called, reaching out for Kai again. The younger grabbed Lay's shoulders with an
iron grip and shook them vigorously.
"That's not what I mean!" Kai cried, tears forming in his eyes. "Why can't I teleport!?!"
"Why can't you..." Lay's face began to pale. He knew Kai had the ability to teleport from place to place,
but he was genuinely scared and confused when Kai told Lay that he had caused some sort of problem.
He wasn't aware that he had done anything to the scared younger male, he had just wanted for him to
stay so he could ask questions. He would stay now. Who knew for how long. "K-Kai, what do you mean?"
"I should be asking you the questions!" He cried out in desperation, collapsing to the ground and
covering his face with his hands, the net falling off of him. He was scared and confused, in hysterics
because he was stranded on a planet where he couldn't survive for long - powerless and foreign. He was
forbidden by his leaders, by his planet to be in contact with Lay, and now he couldn't leave. Lay gathered
the boy up in his arms, still in shock from the accusation. It wasn't something he was used to; talking
about these abilities that he and apparently others possessed. He opened the door with his key and went
through the doorway, pushing the door open with his waist while his arms still comforted Kai. Switching
on the lights, he led Kai over to a couch in his living room, grabbing a blanket from the basket in the corner
and wrapping it around him.
"Stay here ok? I'll get you back to normal." Lay said, looking the frightened boy in the eyes. Kai didn't reply,
just sat still. Lay went into the kitchen and fished his phone from his pocket, dialing Amber's number. It may
have been late, but this was for good reason. The phone rung for the longest time before Amber finally
picked up the phone, her voice groggy from sleep.
"Who is it..?" Her speech slurred until the words were incoherent.
"Sorry to wake you." Lay spoke quietly, but his voice remained stern. "But I think you need to get over here."
There as a long pause.
"...Why?" She asked tiredly. "Do you know what time it is?"
"I've got a visitor." He said bluntly. "And he can't leave." There was another long silence, this one more
organized than the last.
"...Who..?" Amber sounded more alert now. Lay looked back into the lounge. The boy stared straight forward.
"Kai."
~*~*~
Amber was there within the next 10 minutes, still in her pajamas with a large coat. She was only going to
Lay's house, there was no need to get dressed. She burst through the door looking for Lay, her hair still
messy from sleep.
"What do you mean Kai is here?" She said loudly, before even finding out where Lay was.
"I wanted to ask him some questions so I waited for him to deliver the weekly envelope of money to my
front door, and then I trapped him with a net because I knew he wouldn't stay if I asked him too." Lay
began. Amber frowned at him and nodded slowly. "But when I grabbed him I must have done something
without realizing it and now he can't teleport!"
"You what!?" Amber cried. "This is the worst thing that could happen! You know he could die if he stays
here long enough!?" Kai tensed up noticeably on the couch.
"I know! That's why I called you, I don't know what I did!" Lay had regained the memory of powers and
the fact that guardians couldn't last on earth when he had remembered the tree of life. Amber sat down on a
chair opposite Kai and stared at him. Kai suddenly snapped out of his shocked state and screamed.
"Why is he screaming!?" Amber yelled. Lay rushed over to him and put an arm around him to try and calm
him down.
"A-Amber!" He cried. "You're dead! Amber how!? How are you here Amber! Does that mean I'm dead too!?
Does it!?!?!" Kai was in hysterics, more so than before. Stuck on an alien planet that could kill you given
enough time, no way of getting home and a dead comrade in front of you, alive and well. It was the opposite
of ideal. Lay looked up at Amber, frowning in confusion. Her face was wide with shock, and she swore under
her breath.
"That's right..." She said quietly. "No one else knows about that..."
"Kai, it's ok. You're not dead, alright?" Lay said calmly, rubbing soothing circles on Kai's back.
"What's going on..?" he whimpered. Lay had never seen the arrogant Kai so vulnerable in his whole life,
and it was scaring him.
"You're a vivid dreamer Kai." Amber suddenly spoke. Kai was in shock and in hysteria. He would believe
anything. "You're having a really vivid dream right now, that's why it feels so real, that's why I'm here, and
that's why you can't teleport. You're sleeping."
"I wanna wake up..." Kai whimpered. "I wanna go home."
"You are home, in your bed sleeping safe and sound." Lay decided to play along. Amber tugged on his arm and
gestured for him to follow her to another room. "Stay right here, ok? We'll be back very soon." Kai nodded with
big, moist eyes and watched them as they left the room to go to the kitchen.
"Did you make eye contact with him when you grabbed him?" Amber asked as soon as they reached the kitchen.
Lay nodded.
"I just really didn't want him to leave." Amber had been thinking about it ever since she arrived, and had figured
out why Kai couldn't teleport.
"You're subconsciously using your powers." She replied. "Your powers are from the eye-contact family, your more
intricate techniques can only be used through eye-contact."
"So what does that mean?" Lay asked, still unsure about his own abilities.
"It means when you made eye-contact with Kai, and your subconscious didn't want him to leave; you unknowingly
placed a temporary power block on him." She replied. "Kai will be able to teleport away again soon, don't worry.
But you need to be more careful. Until you regain all of your memories, it will be like you never trained to master
your powers. They will be as unpredictable as when you first got them." Lay nodded and sighed. He would have to
be very careful from now on. Who knows what he could end up doing to a regular human being.
~*~*~
They had sent him off a few minutes late with instructions to "Go straight to your bed and lie down." And he happily
obliged. The dream was too real for his liking, too frightening and uncertain. That was what he hated the most -
uncertainty. However when morning came and Kai eventually woke up, he was certain of something. He looked down
at himself to see the clothes he wore last night and 'in his dream' still on him, and a familiar blanket that didn't belong
to him crumpled on the floor. He got up quickly and exited his bedroom, rushing past you and almost knocking you
over as he made his way to Suho's room.
"Kai what's wrong?" You called after him. He didn't answer, and instead quickened his pace. Three harsh knocks on
Suho's door made the leader open up quickly, and Kai barged in.
"Kai-"
"I had an interesting night last night." the younger forced his words over Suho's. The leader paused.
"What..?" he asked.
"Do they think I'm stupid?" Kai laughed bitterly. "That was no dream." Suho approached Kai, and for the first time
the younger began to get violent towards him. The breath was knocked out of Suho's chest as he was pinned to the wall.
"You'd better tell me the whole story right now hyung, or you'll regret it!"
