The Costume Party

Just Another Cinderella Story

“Aish!” I mumbled irately as the picture of that Kim Junsu suddenly appeared in my head. “Aish!”

What I hate the most is betrayal. I can never ever forgive a person who betrayed me. I can never ever forgive that stupid Junsu. It was just last week when I saw him kissing another girl. Hell, another girl! Aish! I was really pissed off. I went straight to them, pulled him off from that girl’s mouth and gave him a hard slap. There was an absolutely red imprint of my hand on his face after that.

“Yah!” Ji Seun exclaimed as she gave me a nudge on my arm. I just realized that I’m with her and that we’re at the mall, shopping for new clothes.

“What?” I muttered.

“You were thinking of him again, aren’t you?”

I nodded.

“Aish! Sun Yee-ah, try to at least forget him for just a measly minute.”

“Yah! I can’t help it. It’s only been a week since I broke up with him. You can’t expect me to get over him just like that.” I said, snapping my fingers in front of her face on that last part.

“Fine…” Ji Seun said rather dejectedly. “Araso… Araso…”

I sighed. “Yah! Park Ji Seun, you may be a very good friend but you really are just plain clueless sometimes.”

“And you, Lee Sun Yee, can be brutally honest.” She remarked. I just grinned.

“Whatever.” Ji Seun said as she rolled her eyes. “Let’s get going. We need to find something to wear for tomorrow’s costume party and, more importantly, to get that useless guy off of your head.”

Ji Seun took me by the arm and led me inside the nearest clothing store. She quickly took out a white chiffon blouse and held it in front of me.

“Here.” She said with a smile.

I looked at the blouse and frowned.

“Aish! Sun Yee-ah, be more enthusiastic about this! You’re usually the one who likes shopping. Don’t let some stupid guy ruin your fun.”

“It’s not that.” I said simply as I took the blouse from her and placed it back in its rack.

“What is it then?”

“Pabo! I don’t like the blouse. Besides, you know my favorite color is black.”

I grinned widely at Ji Seun. I dragged her to the rack with black blouses and dresses.

“Aish! Lee Sun Yee!” Ji Seun mock-angrily stated. “You had me worry there for nothing!”

I chuckled. “You always worry too much.”

Ji Seun pouted then smiled. “Fine.”

We then picked out blouse after blouse, dress after dress, top after top. After several hours, only Ji Seun bought clothes while I, surprisingly, couldn’t decide. There wasn’t anything here that suited my taste. It seems that the perfect outfit was eluding me.

“Aaarrrghh~!” I angrily exclaimed as I rummaged hopelessly in my closet.

“How about this one?” Ji Seun said as she held out a pink V neckline dress with a belt.

“Uh... no!” I said.

I slumped down on my bed beside her. “Aish. We’ve already spent the whole day at the mall and there’s no suitable outfit here in my room.”

“Uhm, we can go back to the mall tomorrow. The party’s not until 6 in the evening.”

There was a knock on the door before I could respond.

“Come in.” I said lazily.

The door opened and my mom went in with a tray in her hands.

“Drinks, girls?” she said as she placed the tray of drinks on my bedside table.

“Komawo, ahjumma.”

“Komawo, umma.” I said as I grimly stood up and took the glasses, handing one to Ji Seun before I sipped my own.

“Why so glum? Still haven’t found something to wear yet?”

I nodded.

“Hmm… Wait here.”

My mom went out of my room and came back five minutes later with something in her hands. She held it up in front of me and I saw a black strapless silk dress with a matching butterfly belt. There was glitter on its outline and on its few simple detailed embellishments. The dress fell just underneath my knees, not that short and not that long. It was simple, yet stunning… a dress fit for a princess…

“Yah! Lee Sun Yee! Come out of there already!”

Ji Seun yelled from downstairs.

I sighed as I looked at the mirror again for the umpteenth time. I was wearing the black dress, matching it with a butterfly tiara on my head while I just left my long hair falling onto my back. I was going as some kind of princess but I’m not sure since I’m wearing black and I have a few butterfly accessories. Besides, I don’t think I suit the whole princess thing. Sigh… But, it’s better than nothing, I suppose.

I took one last glance at the mirror then went on downstairs.

“Wow! It really looks good. I told you, it’s really pretty!” Ji Seun commented as soon as she saw me. I smiled at her uncertainly. In my opinion, she looked way better than me with those white tank top and black shorts, matched with black and white patterned high-cut converse. She had a pair of white angel wings on her back and a few accessories that completed her look as a punky angel, a costume far better and more obvious than mine.

“Are you sure it’s okay?” I asked her.

“Okay? It’s not just okay. It’s awesome! You look really beautiful!”

“Uh… Komawo, I guess.” I said uncomfortably. “But I still think you look better than me.”

“Whatever.” Ji Seun said as she rolled her eyes. “Now, come on! I asked Yoochun-oppa to drive us there. He’s already waiting in the car.”

We went outside and into Ji Seun’s brother’s waiting car.

“Wow, Sun Yee-sshi, you look stunning!” Yoochun-sunbae commented as Ji Seun and I sat in the back seat. “You just outshone my simply annoying dongsaeng.”

I chuckled while Ji Seun scowled at her brother.

“Yah, oppa! You’re really mean, you know that?”

“I know.” Yoochun said as he drove on. “So, Ji Seun-ah, I’m sure you’re on a date with Changmin-sshi tonight, huh?”

“BWO?” Ji Seun exclaimed in shock. “Changmin-ah? Date? Aish, oppa! I told you a thousand times already, we’re just friends!”

Yoochun-sunbae and I both chuckled and I noticed Ji Seun’s cheeks were now tinged with red.

“Aish, Park Ji Seun!” I said. “It’s obvious you like him and he likes you. Why don’t you two just start dating right away?”

Ji Seun opened then closed it again right after, unable to think of something to retort. Her cheeks were growing redder and redder by the second and I couldn’t help but laugh at how she looked.

“Aigoo…” Ji Seun mouthed with an exasperated facial expression.

“Changmin and Ji Seun, sitting on a tree… K-I-S-S-I-N-G” I sang childishly to teaser her. She merely shrugged and looked at the window though I can still her cheeks going redder and redder still.

“Ji Seun and Changmin…” I sang again, this time Yoochun-sunbae joined in. “… sitting on a tree… K-I-S-S-I-N-G”

“YAH! Stop!” Ji Seun pleaded with a now tomato red face.

Yoochun-sunbae and I broke into laughter while Ji Seun glared at us, nostrils flaring out of annoyance.

“Okay, okay… Mianhe dongsaeng…” Yoochun said, though I sensed it was still a joke. I was sure he’s just like me, loves to tease Ji Seun about Changmin. Ji Seun seemed to sense it too because she was still glaring at him. “Cheer up, we’re here now, see.”

Yoochun-sunbae turned to a corner and we instantly saw the reception hall. He pulled over a minute later then we got out.

“Yah, I’ll pick you up at around 11:30, araso?”

“Araso.” Ji Seun replied.

Yoochun gave us a wink then drove away.

“11:30?” I asked with an eyebrow raised. “He didn’t even spare us 30 minutes.”

Ji Seun sighed. “Well, it’s not his fault. You know how my parents are. They easily get spooked so I’m kept under a strict curfew. It was supposed to be 10 but oppa made them reconsider. 11:30’s already generous enough.”

“Fine. Fine. Come on.” I said as I led her to the entrance hall.

♥---♥---♥---♥---♥---♥---♥---♥---♥---♥---♥

“Ji Seun-ah!” Changmin’s voice seemed to drown out the loud music as he shouted her name.

Ji Seun and I, together with three other friends, turned to look at him. He was dressed as a vampire, his cape fluttered wildly as he hurriedly ran towards Ji Seun.

“Sun Yee-ah, Eun Mi-ah, Chae Ji-ah, Yeon Hee-ah, annyeong~!” he greeted us but his smiling eyes were on Ji Seun.

“Yah! Changmin-ah, we’re over here.” Chae Ji joked but he seemed not to hear.

“Changmin-ah, annyeong~!” Ji Seun greeted with a wide smile.

“Annyeong~!” he said with a deep bow and a geeky, wide smile.

They both stood there looking cheesily at each other. I looked at the other three girls and they were giggling. I turned my gaze back to the “couple”. Sheesh. These two!

“Yah, Changmin-ah! Ji Seun-ah!” I said loudly.

They both turned and looked at me.

“Stop that, will you?” I said and they gave me a puzzled expression. “If you two want to KISS each other then just get over with it already! Don’t just stand there and stare lovey-dovey like you haven’t seen each other in a long time.”

They instantly stepped one step away from each other, looking awkward. Changmin tried hard to hide a smile playing on his lips while Ji Seun went absolutely red again. I heard giggles come out from my other friends and I grinned.

“Y-yah!” Changmin said to me, looking away from Ji Seun so that she wouldn’t catch his smile. “I-it’s not what you think.”

“Whatever. You like her, she likes you. What the hell! Just ask her out, will you?” I said straightforwardly.

I then walked away from them, looking at the other three to join me so that Ji Seun and Changmin could be alone.

The four of us then headed to the table to get some punch. Jut then two guys came up and asked Yeon Hee and Chae Ji to dance with them, leaving me and Eun Mi alone to drink punch.

“So are we the ones without a date tonight?” I asked jokingly.

“Uh…” Eun Mi hesitated. “Well, I actually have one.”

“Oh…” I asked a little bit dejected because it seems I have to spend rest of the party-of-the-year by myself.

“Oh, but he’s not here yet. Maybe he won’t come.” Eun Mi quickly added when she saw my facial expression.

“Uh… I think he’s here now.” I said as I saw Jung Yunho moving towards Eun Mi with a smile painted on his face. She turned around and her face brightly lit up. But then she quickly looked back towards me with an apologetic look.

“You go on ahead.” I said with a smile. “I’ll just go look for Ji Seun. I’ll be alright.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.” I nodded.

Eun Mi smiled at me then went on with Yunho.

I sighed. Sheesh… I didn’t expect that I’d be all alone tonight. Of course, I could just find Ji Seun but right now, I think I want her and Changmin to have some alone time. If she and that guy still don’t hook up after this then I’ll go to Changmin and tell him what’s on my mind. They’ve been friends for about a year now and he still hasn’t made a move. He’s really slow.

“Lee Sun Yee?” a voice behind me said, interrupting me from my thoughts. I turned around and saw a prince – well, at least he looked like one. He was tall, dressed in a neat black tuxedo matched with shiny black shoes. His black hair was attractively messy and his voice was just absolutely soothing. His face though… I couldn’t see his face fully because he was wearing a mask that covered the upper half of it.

“Sun Yee-ah?” he said again.

“Oh… uh… A-annyeonghaseyo?” – Oh man why am I stuttering? – “D-do I know y-you?”

The prince chuckled.

“No… But I know you.” He said in a deep voice as he smiled sweetly. What he said instantly sent shivers down my spine… or was it goose bumps?

“Oh… okay then…” I said as I gave a weak smile. Slowly, I began to walk away from him, step by step, little by little. He watched me with curious eyes. I slowly turned around and headed wherever. I couldn’t tell if he was still near me or following me, for that matter, because of the music all over. I squeezed through the crowd and saw the way out to the gardens. I hurriedly went there, apologizing to the number of people I accidentally bump into. After a while I finally got there.

“Phew!” I let out as I felt small droplets of sweat form on my forehead. He surely couldn’t follow me earlier. There were just a lot of people and anyone could easily be lost in the crowd. Imagine my surprise when…

“Hello again.”

I turned around and saw him with a grin on his face. He was standing there in all his attractive glory. Wait, minus that last part. He may be attractive but he’s still weird.

“Uh… what do you want?” I asked.

“Nothing. Couldn’t we just talk or something?”

“Uh… We are talking.” I said sarcastically.

He chuckled. “Yeah, we are, I guess.”

“Weird.” I muttered to myself but I let him hear it. He only chuckled again. “Uh… I gotta go now.”

“So soon?” he said coolly. “Where will you go?”

“Just… anywhere.”

I tried to walk back inside but he started following me again.

“Uh… Are you going to follow me again?” I asked coldly.

“Hmm… Uh-huh. Will that be a problem?” he said amusedly.

“Yah! Listen, you! I don’t know who the hell you are but you’re really creeping me out. If you still want to live then I suggest you better back off!” I said, acting tough though my tone really rose higher and I couldn’t keep my nostrils from flaring.

“Wow…” he said as he seemed to have avoided my words. “You’re still really pretty even when you’re angry.”

“Bwo?” I asked, putting on an exasperated face but I could not hide the blush.

He smiled sweetly again and I tried not to melt from it. I smirked at him. “Weirdo.”

I my heel and started to head inside again. I don’t care if he followed me. I’ll just have to try and lose him through the crowd. I was about to get inside and near the dance floor when I saw a familiar figure walking towards my way. Oh hell! It’s Junsu!
