The First Meeting

Cupid's Ride

Donghae's eyes were bloodshot as he got ready for this big day coming up.  Not only had he made about one hundred sales, but about half of his customers actually wanted their orders delivered.  Thankfully I have hired help this year, Donghae thought.  As he sipped his 8th cup of coffee since last night, he frantically ran around his house like a chicken without a head, making sure anything and everything was intact.  In just a few short minutes, he knew that Sungmin would arrive, since he had received a text that stated his best friend was leaving the house about twenty minutes ago.  This was the first year Donghae had decided upon hiring help for his Valentine's Day deliveries, so he was hoping and praying everything would go smoothly, slightly wincing at the thought of what happened to him the previous year.

Bzzzt.  Donghae had received a text.

"I'm leaving my house now," the text read.  Donghae breathed a sigh of relief as things were slowly, but surely falling into place.

~~~~~
Sungmin parked his car and reached for his phone.  He sent Donghae a text, stating that he was outside.  Sungmin pressed the unlock button and opened his door.  He let out a barely audible sound as he stretched his arms and legs.  An early morning February chill hit him, as the flesh on his cheeks glowed faintly in pink.  Sungmin's teeth chattered for a few seconds before he shook his whole body, ready to conquer the world.  A very long day was ahead of him.  Ten hours of Valentine's Day deliveries.  On top of that, his partner was someone he'd never met, not even once.  Butterflies started fluttering within his stomach as the anxiety within was waiting to be lifted.  Sungmin slowly strode toward his best friend's house, bombarded with feelings mixed with fear, anxiety, nervousness, and excitement.  The only thing he knew about his partner was that his name was Cho Kyuhyun.
As Sungmin walked the narrow, cemented path to Donghae and Hyukjae's house, he saw the faint glow of their house lights.  He walked up to their already open black screen door, as he spoke the words, "I'm here," in a voice just above a whisper, before turning the silver doorknob and walking in.
"Hi Min!" Donghae's lips creased into a full, crescent-sized smile, as he ran over to give Sungmin a welcome hug.
Sungmin smiled in return before asking, "Hae, you don't look so good.  How much sleep did you have last night?"
"I didn't sleep.  I've had about eight cups of coffee though, so I'm good."  Sungmin couldn't help but chuckle at his friend's response.  It was exactly like him to pull off an all-nighter just to make sure everything was perfect.  "What about you?  I kept you and Heechul around for quite some time.  Thanks for helping with the flowers last night, by the way!"
"No problem," Sungmin shrugged.  "His controlling ways were getting on my nerves though," Sungmin smirked while Donghae let out a light laugh.
"Ha!  Try having to be around that man for half your life, then you'll be used to it.  I'm so lucky he actually likes and respects me," Donghae teased.
A small giggle escaped Sungmin's mouth, as he thought about the relationship that Heechul and Donghae had.  It was nice to be distracted from the thought of having to meet this Kyuhyun guy.  What if he hates the sight of me?  What if he has a problem with me being gay?  I don't need to tell him that.  Sungmin was lost in thought and started to become anxious again.
"Oh good, Kyu's outside!" Donghae smiled as he walked to the door.  Kyuhyun and Donghae were friends, but not nearly as close as the friendship Sungmin and Donghae shared.
Sungmin's face drained of color at that comment.  He was never good at meeting new people and he was awkward and shy around them.  He had spent the twenty minute drive thinking about how he could put on his game face and impress this Kyuhyun guy.  Awkwardly smiling, Sungmin ruffled his fingers through his long brown hair as he stood up to greet his partner.
As he heard the clicking of the doorknob, Sungmin glanced up slightly.  In the frame of the door stood a tall, skinny male, who looked about the same age as himself.  The male looked mysterious and distant, but boy was he handsome.  Sungmin felt his heart skip a beat as he took a few seconds to glance over this new guy who stood before him.
"Kyu, this is my friend Sungmin.  He's your partner for today."  Donghae glanced quickly at both of the friends before him before skipping back to his flowers and humming a bubbly, happy tune.
"Geez Hae, how can you be in such a good mood at this hour, after doing all that work?  Damn, if I were you, I'd snap!" Kyuhyun joked in a slightly sarcastic tone.  "Oh that's right, I forgot.  You have your witto Hyukkie to wake up to huh?"
Donghae shot a glare at Kyuhyun, but upon hearing a small giggle from Sungmin, his face softened.  "Stop being so jealous, Kyu.  It's not my fault you don't have a Valentine this year," Donghae teased.
Kyuhyun rolled his eyes.  "More like Single Awareness Day for people like me."  His face showed a touch of sadness as those words escaped his lips.
"That's how I feel too.  Well it doesn't help that I spent the last two months helping Hae plan for this oh-so-special day," Sungmin stated softly while he shot a comforting smile at Kyuhyun.
"Ah, you too huh?" Kyuhyun's face softened at Sungmin's words.  He couldn't help but to find this shorter male to be awkwardly adorable.
Sungmin nodded as his cheeks flushed a very faint light pink.
"Oookay you two, there's work to be done!" Hae cheerfully grabbed a half dozen mylar balloons, all of which were filled with cheesy, lovey-dovey sayings.  Kyuhyun grabbed a box that had two vases equipped with a dozen roses, while Sungmin grabbed two gold boxes and two stuffed animals.
Sungmin and Kyuhyun hurriedly grabbed flowers and balloons and made their way to Kyuhyun's truck.  They took two trips to load everything up for the first run of deliveries.
The two said their goodbyes to Donghae before heading into the truck and driving off.  Donghae chuckled before thinking out loud, "They'd make such a cute couple.  Great job, matchmaker Hae!"  He then turned around and walked back toward his house, feeling the caffeine in his system wearing down.
Hi everyone! So I noticed the requests for sequels, and I can't quite guarantee one, sorry! I /maaay/ consider going for mini-stories based on side couples first, since if I go with a sequel, I'd need more time to rethink the Kyumin events.
But thank you for the support and love! :)))
<333 to you all!
